About Corbett Tiger Reserve
Corbett Tiger Reserve is spread over areas of Nainital, Almora, Pauri Garhwal and Bijnore Districts of Uttarakhand. The present area of the Reserveis 1318.54 sq. km. including 520.82 sq. km. of core area and 797.72 sq. km. of buffer area. The core area forms the Corbett National Park while the buffer contains reserve forests (496.54 sq. km.) as well as the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary (301.18 sq.km.). The core is bounded to the North by the Kanda Ridge, with a height of 1043 m at its highest point. The entire area of the reserve is mountainous and falls in the Sivalik and Outer Himalaya geological province
Landscapes and Geology of Corbett
For the survival of such a remarkable gamut of floral and faunal species in Corbett National Park, water is a crucial factor. The Ramganga river forms the most prominent hydrological resource, supplemented by tributaries, most prominent of which are the Sonanadi, Mandal and Palain rivers. The river Kosi runs proximate to the Park and is also a significant water resource for nearby areas. Wildlife is dependent on rivers, more so in the dry season, for they provide drinking water and also form home to several key aquatic species.
Ramnganga
The Ramganga riverWithout the Ramganga river there would be no Corbett. It is the largest of the precious few perennial sources of water in the Park. In fact, for a brief period (from 1954 to 1957) the Park was known as Ramganga National Park
Kosi
The Kosi is a perennial river like the Ramganga and its catchment lies partially in Corbett NP. From Mohan through Dhikuli till Ramnagar, the Kosi forms the eastern boundary of Corbett National Park
Sonanadi
The Sonanadi is an important tributary of the Ramganga. Named after this river the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary adjoins Corbett National Park and forms an important part of the Corbett Tiger Reserve
Corbett Tourism
In addition to their management responsibilities the forest staff also looks after wildlife tourism. The department maintains various facilities and services for the 70,000-odd visitors that come to Corbett every year. Regulated tourism in Corbett Tiger Reserve gives visitors a chance to view wild animals in their natural environment and experience the beauty of Nature. This is the only way to help people from all walks of life appreciate the true value of wildlife preservation.

Pitching a tent at Dodital, in front of the old Forest Rest House, in good old Lakhiram's days!
Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 3,024 metres (9,921 ft). To reach Dodital, one may reach Uttarkashi by road and then walk to Dodital here via Bewra and other minor villages alongside the Ganges river.

Dodital means Emerald Lake and is situated at a height of 10, 500 feet in a forested bowl above Uttarkashi in Uttaranchal, now named Uttarakhand. It is a two day trek from the road head at Kalyani, along the Assi Ganga River. The first day's stop, after a brief but steep trek, is at Agoda village. After that, one walks 16 kilometers, across Rhododendron and oak forests to Dodital, passing through some beautiful mountain scapes inhabited by Goral (a wild Himalayan mountain goat) and Black Bear and coveys of Monal Pheasant with their iridescent plumage. Above Dodital lies Darwa Top, from where one can get beautiful views of Bandarpunch or Banderpunch (White and Black Peak) at around 20, 956 feet, and views of the Gangotri valley. Jim Corbett National Park-named after the hunter turned conservationist Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment-is the oldest national park in India. The park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. Situated in Nainital district of Uttarakhand, the park acts as a protected area for the critically endangered Bengal tiger of India, the secure survival of which is the main objective of Project Tiger, an Indian wildlife protection initiative. The park has sub-Himalayan belt geographical and ecological characteristics. An ecotourism destination, it contains 488 different species of plants and a diverse variety of fauna. The increase in tourist activities, among other problems, continues to present a serious challenge to the park's ecological balance. Corbett has been a haunt for tourists and wildlife lovers for a long time. Ramganga River at Corbett National Park, Uttaranchal
Without the Ramganga river there would be no Corbett. It is the largest of the precious few perennial sources of water in the Park. Inside the Park it flows roughly from east to west for 40 km till Kalagarh where it enters the plains. During this run through the Park it gathers waters from the Palain, Mandal and Sonanadi rivers.
The Ramganga is inhabited by key aquatic species like mahseer fish, the endangered gharials, mugger crocodiles, otters and turtles. Ramganga River - God's gift of Jim Corbett National Park
Without the Ramganga river there would be no Corbett. It is the largest of the precious few perennial sources of water in the Park. In fact, for a brief period (from 1954 to 1957) the Park was known as Ramganga National Park. A rain-fed river originating near Gairsain in the Lesser Himalayas, the Ramganga traverses more than 100 km before entering Corbett near Marchula.
Many species of birds, like kingfishers, fish-eagles, terns and storks depend on the Ramganga. During winters the Ramganga reservoir attracts many migratory bird species, especially waterbirds from Europe and Central Asia.
Jim Corbett National Park is the oldest national park in India. The park named for the hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett who played a key role in its establishment was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park. Situated in Uttarakhand district of Uttarakhand the park acts as a protected area for the endangered Bengal tiger of India, the secure survival of which is the main objective of Protect Tiger, an Indian wildlife protection initiative. The park has sub-Himalayan belt geographical and ecological characteristics. An ecotourism destination, it contains 488 different species of plants and a diverse variety of fauna. The increase in tourist activities, among other problems, continues to present a serious challenge to the park's ecological balance.

Land Cruiser crosses Marchula Bridge on the Ramganga, upstream of Corbett Park
A black Land Cruiser crosses Marchula Bridge on the Ramganga, upstream of Corbett Park, Uttarakhand.
The Land Cruiser is the de facto flagship of Toyota's lineup, with the highest price tag and the most luxury features of any vehicle offered by the brand. Its rugged body-on frame design means the Land Cruise is something of an anachronism - the vast majority of SUVs have switched to lighter and more fuel-efficient unibody construction - but also makes it one of the most capable off-roading vehicles of all time.
Toyota recently updated the Land Cruiser. Restyled exterior elements included the grille, chrome side moldings and side mirrors. Toyota also saw fit to upgrade nearly all the lighting systems, adding HID low-beam headlights, LED daytime running lights and redesigned tail lamps. Outside of these tweaks, the Land Cruiser maintains its understated, traditional SUV looks.
Ramganga River is the Lifeline for Corbett National Park. We cannot imagine the existence of Corbett without Ramganga. It is the largest of all the precious water bodies in the park. We can imagine the importance of this river with evidence that it was named Ramganga National Park for a brief period from 1954-1957 before it was named Corbett National Park. The river is fed by rain and originates from the Gairsain region in Lesser Himalayas. The river flows around a stretch of near about 100 kilometers before you get inside the park near Marchula. Approximately, it flows 40 Kms east to west inside the park till Kalagarh where it meets plains. It collects water from the Palain, Mandal and Sonanadi rivers during this run through the park and finally drains into River Ganga near Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Spotted deer grazing in Jim Corbett National Park
The Jim Corbett National Park is heaven for adventure seekers and wildlife adventure lovers alike. Corbett National Park has captured the imagination of many with its diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. The natural uniqueness of the area was recognised long ago and so in 1936 Corbett attained the distinction as the first national park to be established in mainland Asia. Corbett National Park lies in two districts -- Nainital and Pauri -- in the hill state of Uttaranchal in northern India. It covers an area of 521 sq. km and together with the neighbouring Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary and Reserve Forest areas, forms the Corbett Tiger Reserve over 1288 sq. km.
Its geographical location between the Himalayas and the terai, and the streams, rivers and ridges crisscrossing the terrain, present Corbett with a remarkable variety of landscapes. This vivid mosaic of habitats -- wet and dry, plain and mountainous, gentle and rugged, forests and grasslands -- supports numerous plant and animal species, representing Himalayan as well as plains kinds. The most famous of Corbett's wild residents are the Bengal Tiger and the Asiatic Elephant, but with about 600 species of avifauna Corbett is one of the richest bird regions of India.

Migratory birds attract bird watchers - ANI News
Rampur, Nov 25 (ANI): Nature enthusiasts and tourists gathered at a barrage on river Kosi in Uttarakhand's Ramnagar town to observe migratory birds that flock to the warmer climes to ward off the extreme cold of their Arctic home grounds. Ramnagar is the gateway to Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest national park and a famous tourist destination. These birds from Siberia and Central Asia use wetlands as their transitory camps, which play a vital role in sustaining a large population of the breeding birds. From early November onwards, these migratory birds keep arriving till December and return during the spring season. Hundreds of thousands of exotic birds such as mallards, greyleg geese, gadwalls, teals, shovelers, pochards and coots make their temporary nests in Ramnagar. With the onset of winter, the Siberian birds spread their wings to begin a journey spanning thousands of kilometers.
