We made a stop at Sonoma TrainTown on a day spent checking out smaller parks around the Bay Area but actually spent some time here, rather than our normal in-and-out kiddie park stops we do. While the coaster here was the reason for our visit, the parks big focus is their 4 mile long miniature railroad which was pretty cool and totally worth the $7.50.

Located in the San Francisco Bay area in southeastern Sonoma County is the Valley considered the birthplace of the California wine industry. The Sonoma Valley runs from Santa Rosa in the north to the San Pablo Bay in the south. Formed between the Mayacamas Mountains and Sonoma Mountains, Sonoma Valley was home to the earliest California Vineyards which survived both the phylloxera epidemic of the 1870s and the effects of 20th century prohibition.
Today along with being the home to over 100 wineries, The Valley plays host to events year-round. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is a six-hour adventure aboard a replica California cable car. Your hand-built cable car is based on the original blueprints from the San Francisco cable cars that were in operation from the 1890s through the 1930s. It is an all wooden carriage detailed right down to the brass bell. The modern conveniences of the day have been added including a state-of-the-art sound system and PA, along with connections for iPod and iPhone. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is an open-air cable car that lets you experience a panoramic view as you visit four of the world class wineries of The Valley.
Your conductor on the guided Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley will explain the history, legacies, and folklore as you travel the green valley from vineyard to vineyard. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley is a group friendly event that encourages making new friends along the way.
The day on the Wine Trolley includes a catered picnic lunch prepared by the Girl & the Fig Restaurant, noted for their country French cuisine, a visit to four selected wineries for a taste of the treasures of Sonoma and a day of knowledgeable adventure. The Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley departs from Sonoma Plaza at 10:30 AM and returns at 4:30 PM. You must be 21 years old to purchase a ticket for the exclusive wine tasting adventures aboard the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley.
Along with the historical education, laughs and priceless views the Trolley tour visits four wineries. Winery visits on the tour vary because of seasonal and special events happening on certain days, the tour will always include a visit to four premium wineries for a semi-private tasting. Winery tasting fees are separate, ranging from $20-$30 per vineyard.
Wineries are selected for daily tours from the list of twelve regularly visited by the tour conductors of the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley. The selected wineries are chosen to provide visitors with a general overview of the Sonoma Valley Wine experience. Each of the chosen wineries offer a unique vineyard property and premium vintages. Mine Train (HD POV) - Sonoma TrainTown Railroad
Mine Train is a 2015 Miler kiddie coaster which operates at Sonoma Traintown Railroad. The park has a small number of rides for families and (as the name would suggest) lots of trains. Here is their coaster, video featuring my wife's off-ride footage of me shooting the POV with my GoPro, which is also on the video! The park kindly opened up the ride for us even though it was closed due to being off-season - superb customer service!

From San Francisco take a rip up the US 1 past Stinson Beach and then head east to Sonoma.. of course the 101 will get you there faster.
Trip Highlights:
Until this point.. 8,000 ft was the highest climb for ChoppyRides.. the Sonoma run has set a new target to aim for at 15,000!
Petaluma, California
Petaluma is a small city in Sonoma County, California, in the United States. Its population was 57,941 according to the 2010 Census.
The Rancho Petaluma Adobe, located in Petaluma, is a National Historic Landmark. Its construction started in 1836 by order of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, then Commandant of the San Francisco Presidio. It was the center of a 66,000 acre ranch stretching from Petaluma River to Sonoma Creek. The adobe is considered one of the best preserved buildings of its era in Northern California.
Petaluma is a transliteration of the Coast Miwok phrase péta lúuma which means hill backside and probably refers to Petaluma's proximity to Sonoma Mountain.
Petaluma has a well-preserved, historic city center[9] which includes many buildings that survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
The Coast Miwok resided in southern Sonoma County, and Péta Lúuma was originally the name of a Miwok village east of the Petaluma River. A number of other Coast Miwok villages were also located in and around what is now Petaluma; Wotoki, immediately to the south of the village of Petaluma, on the opposite side of the river, Etem, Likatiut, and Tuchayalin, near downtown Petaluma, and Tulme and Susuli, just north of what are now the city limits of Petaluma.
The Petaluma area was part of a 66,000 acre (270-km²) 1834 Mexican land grant by Governor Jose Figueroa to Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo called Rancho Petaluma. In 1836, Vallejo ordered construction of his Rancho Petaluma Adobe a ranch house in Petaluma, which his family often used as a summer home, while he resided in the neighboring town of Sonoma. Vallejo's influence and Mexican control in the region began to decline after Vallejo's arrest during the Bear Flag Revolt in 1846.
Pioneers flocked into Petaluma from the eastern United States after Michael Celiberti found gold in the Sierra Nevadas in 1849. The town's position on the Petaluma River in the heart of productive farmland was critical to its growth during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Sailing scows, such as the scow schooner Alma (1892), and steamers plied the river between Petaluma and San Francisco, carrying agricultural produce and raw materials to the burgeoning city of San Francisco during the California Gold Rush.
