In Jennifer's Room
In August 2006, caregivers at the Sonoma Developmental Center found dark blue bruises shaped like handprints covering the breasts of a patient named Jennifer. She accused a staff member of molestation, court records show. Jennifer's injuries appeared to be evidence of sexual abuse, indicating that someone had violently grabbed her.
The Office of Protective Services opened an investigation. But detectives took no action because the case relied heavily on the word of a woman with severe intellectual disabilities. A few months later, court records show, officials at the center had indisputable evidence that a crime had occurred.
In Jennifer's Room is part of a reporting package that recently won a George Polk and an IRE award, and was named a finalist in the Pulitzer Prize's Public Service category. The video also won a national News and Documentary Emmy in the New Approaches category.

The California Climate Ride is a 320-mile ride from Fortuna to San Francisco that raises money for organizations working on sustainability and bike advocacy. This footage was taken of the 150 cyclists in the 2012 ride -- through the redwoods, down the coast, across wine country, along Tomales Bay, over the Golden Gate Bridge, and into San Francisco. There is also an East Coast Climate Ride from New York to DC.
Cyclists can sign up for the 2013 Climate Ride at ClimateRide.org.
Three Times a Charm for Aurora: Solar Storm Forecast 10-31-2019
This Solar Storm Forecast is sponsored in part by 3ric Johanson:
We've just barely had a chance to calm down from a G2-level solar storm due to some fast solar wind that hit a few days ago and we are already being hit by a stealthy solar storm the Sun launched back on October 25th! This stealthy storm has bumped us back to active conditions for a short while, but it should bring aurora only to high latitudes because it is magnetically oriented the wrong way to really have a significant impact Earth's magnetic shield. Nonetheless, it is helping to precondition Earth's shield and make it more sensitive to the next solar storm that is expected to hit over the next few days. This third storm will be from some fast solar wind from a southern hemisphere coronal hole and it could return us to active conditions starting around early next week. In addition to these solar storms, several bright regions are rotating into Earth view, and they are are boosting the solar flux up to marginal conditions for radio propagation (just barely). This is good news for amateur radio and emergency responders as these conditions should last over the next few days and possibly into next week as well. The only group really suffering are GPS users, as GPS reception likely isn't so great right now, especially near aurora and on Earth's night side. However, reception should slowly get better as we move through mid-next week. Learn the details of these three solar storms, how they are affecting the satellites above us, when and where to see aurora, and what to expect in radio propagation and GPS reception this week as well as what else our Sun has in store!

A Grasshopper Adventure Series FINALE - The King Ridge Dirt Supreme (Mixed Terrain Bike Race)
A Grasshopper Adventure Series finale, The King Ridge Dirt Supreme, race report.
This is the final video for the 2018 Grasshopper Adventure Series. The King Ridge Dirt Supreme is an 80 mile mixed terrain bicycle race held each year in Duncans Mills, California. Duncans Mills is a small town located in Northern California in the western part of the county of Sonoma. The 2018 series marks the 20 year anniversary of the Grasshopper Adventure Series, a mixed terrain gravel race, imagined and created by Miguel Crawford. The King Ridge Dirt Supreme takes riders up to Willow Creek and down to the coast on Highway 1, then north to Fort Ross. Once the riders complete the Fort Ross road climb they descend back down to the coast through Salt Point State Park. With another short ride up Highway 1, the route turns up again along Kruse Ranch road, a bucolic gravel road leading through a majestic Rhododendron forest. From here the riders are once again challenged with an intense descent and climb up to King Ridge on the infamous Hauser Bridge Road with gradients upwards of 20%. The final rest station is located at the top of the climb. With a fill up on snacks and water, the riders take on the final series of climbs on King Ridge road passing pasture lands and redwood forests before finishing on Austin Creek road. The King Ridge Dirt Supreme is a truly amazing adventure ride unlike any in the world.
These are the most challenging mixed terrain rides I have participated in, and I feel very fortunate to have them in my backyard. I hope you stick around for the awards at the end of the video. Enjoy!
