Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark (Caroline-Mathilde Louise Dagmar Christine Maud Augusta Ingeborg Thyra Adelheid; 27 April 1912 – 12 December 1995) was a daughter of Prince Harald of Denmark and the wife of Knud, Hereditary Prince of Denmark.
Princess Caroline-Mathilde was born on 27 April 1912 at Jægersborghus country house in Gentofte north of Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the second child and daughter of Prince Harald of Denmark, son of King Frederick VIII of Denmark and Princess Louise of Sweden, and Princess Helena of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. The princess was named for her maternal grandmother, and was known as 'Calma' to her family.
Caroline-Mathilde married her first cousin Prince Knud of Denmark, second son and youngest child of Christian X of Denmark and Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin on 8 September 1933 at Fredensborg Palace, Zealand, Denmark. The couple were given Sorgenfri Palace in Kongens Lyngby north of Copenhagen as their residence. The couple had three children: Elisabeth, Ingolf and Christian.
From 1947 to 1953, Prince Knud was heir presumptive of his older brother King Frederick IX. Knud would have become king and Caroline Mathilde queen in their turn, but a change in the constitution in 1953 caused Knud to lose his place in the succession to his niece, Margrethe II. After the change, Prince Knud was given the title of Hereditary Prince and Caroline Mathilde became Hereditary Princess.
Hereditary Prince Knud died on 14 June 1976. Hereditary Princess Caroline Mathilde survived her husband by 19 years and died on 12 December 1995 at Sorgenfri Palace. She was buried at Roskilde Cathedral next to her husband.

Kastellet, (English: The Citadel) located in Copenhagen, Denmark, is one of the best preserved star fortresses in Northern Europe. It is constructed in the form of a pentagram with bastions at its corners. Kastellet was continuous with the ring of bastioned ramparts which used to encircle Copenhagen but of which only the ramparts of Christianshavn remain today.
A number of buildings are located within the grounds of Kastellet, including a church as well as a windmill. The area houses various military activities but it mainly serves as a public park and a historic site.
Copenhagen is the capital and most populous city of Denmark. The city has a population of 775,033 (as of January 2018), of whom 613,288 live in the Municipality of Copenhagen and the Copenhagen urban area has a population of 1,308,893 (as of January 2018). Copenhagen is situated on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand; another small portion of the city is located on Amager, and is separated from Malmö, Sweden, by the strait of Øresund. The Øresund Bridge connects the two cities by rail and road.
Originally a Viking fishing village founded in the 10th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Beginning in the 17th century it consolidated its position as a regional centre of power with its institutions, defences and armed forces. After suffering from the effects of plague and fire in the 18th century, the city underwent a period of redevelopment. This included construction of the prestigious district of Frederiksstaden and founding of such cultural institutions as the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After further disasters in the early 19th century when Horatio Nelson attacked the Dano-Norwegian fleet and bombarded the city, rebuilding during the Danish Golden Age brought a Neoclassical look to Copenhagen's architecture. Later, following the Second World War, the Finger Plan fostered the development of housing and businesses along the five urban railway routes stretching out from the city centre.
Since the turn of the 21st century, Copenhagen has seen strong urban and cultural development, facilitated by investment in its institutions and infrastructure. The city is the cultural, economic and governmental centre of Denmark; it is one of the major financial centres of Northern Europe with the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Copenhagen's economy has seen rapid developments in the service sector, especially through initiatives in information technology, pharmaceuticals and clean technology. Since the completion of the Øresund Bridge, Copenhagen has become increasingly integrated with the Swedish province of Scania and its largest city, Malmö, forming the Øresund Region. With a number of bridges connecting the various districts, the cityscape is characterised by parks, promenades and waterfronts. Copenhagen's landmarks such as Tivoli Gardens, The Little Mermaid statue, the Amalienborg and Christiansborg palaces, Rosenborg Castle Gardens, Frederik's Church, and many museums, restaurants and nightclubs are significant tourist attractions. The largest lake of Denmark, Arresø, lies around 27 miles (43 kilometers) northwest of the City Hall Square.
Copenhagen is home to the University of Copenhagen, the Technical University of Denmark and Copenhagen Business School. The University of Copenhagen, founded in 1479, is the oldest university in Denmark. Copenhagen is home to the FC København and Brøndby football clubs. The annual Copenhagen Marathon was established in 1980. Copenhagen is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world.
The Copenhagen Metro launched in 2002 serves central Copenhagen while the Copenhagen S-train and Lokaltog (private railway) and the Coast Line network serves and connects central Copenhagen to outlying boroughs. To relieve traffic congestion, which is partly the result of increased traffic because of the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link road and rail construction is planned because the narrow 9-9.5 mile isthmus between Roskilde Fjord and Køge Bugt (Køge Bay) forms a traffic bottleneck. The Copenhagen-Ringsted Line will relieve traffic congestion in the corridor between Roskilde and Copenhagen.
Serving roughly two million passengers a month, Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup, is the busiest airport in the Nordic countries.

Princess Elisabeth of Denmark, RE Elisabeth Caroline-Mathilde Alexandrine Helena Olga Thyra Feodora Estrid Margrethe Désirée, was born on 8 May 1935 and died on 19 June 2018. She was the daughter of Hereditary Prince Knud and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark, and was a first cousin of the present Danish monarch, Queen Margrethe II. As a first cousin of Queen Margrethe II, she was 12th in the line of succession to the Danish throne at the time of her death. She never married and held the title of Prinsesse til Danmark, literally translated as Princess to Denmark, which is reserved for those members of the Royal Family in line of succession. She was the only child of Knud, Hereditary Prince of Denmark, to retain succession rights to the throne of Denmark. Through both parents, she was descended from King George II of Great Britain, and was therefore also distantly in the line of succession to the British throne. Princess Elisabeth was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1956 to 2001 and was posted abroad a number of times. Though she never married, she lived with film director Claus Hermansen for 20 years until his death in 1997. She did not have children. Princess Elisabeth lived in a detached classical wing of the royal palace Sorgenfri in Lyngby near Copenhagen. She grew up in the main building. She was godmother to her great-nephew, Theodor Rosanes af Rosenborg, the youngest grandson of Elisabeth's brother Christian. It was confirmed by the Danish Royal Court that Elisabeth had died on 19 June 2018. Her cremation service will take place at Lyngby Church. She will be buried beside her longtime companion, Claus Hermansen. She died at 83 years old.

Her Highness Princess Elisabeth of Denmark has died at the age of 83, the Danish Royal Court has announced.She died yesterday at 6.15pm surrounded by her closest family.Princess Elisabeth was the daughter of Hereditary Prince Knud and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark and was a first cousin of the present Danish monarch, Queen Margrethe II.She was 12th in the line of succession to the Danish throne at the time of her death.Her Highness had two younger brothers, Prince Ingolf (later Count of Rosenborg) and Prince Christian (later also Count of Rosenborg).She grew up at Sorgenfri Palace Lyngby and passed her lower secondary school examination in 1952.She then spent a year at a boarding school in Lausanne, Switzerland and continued her education at Den Suhrske Husholdningsskole.From 1954 until 1956, she studied at the private fashion and design school Margrethe Skolen.She also took courses at the Tempo Type Skolen in Copenhagen.She handled official duties for Denmark together with a 45-year-long civil service career in the ministry of foreign affairs.She was posted abroad several times throughout her career.She lived with filmmaker Claus Hermansen until his death in 1997.Three years after his death she moved back to her childhood home of Sorgenfri Palace, where she would spend her final years.Her father was the heir presumptive to King Frederick IX of Denmark until 1953 when a constitutional amendment allowed women to inherit the throne.Frederick’s daughter, now Queen Margrethe II, became the heiress presumptive.This constitutional change also meant that Princess Elisabeth was included in the line of succession.Princess Elisabeth’s cremation service will take place at Lyngby Kirke.Afterwards, she will be laid to rest beside Claus Hermansen.

My mother had invited Sanna, Hans and I on “Opera in the free” at Kronborg Castle, which the Royal Danish Opera does every summer 5-6 places around Denmark, and we were together with maybe 8,000 other people, who decided to go in the nice summer weather to experience fine opera as many would probably never otherwise experience, and I truly loved it, this was a people's party, a cultural event of the big, and I was thinking that just maybe this is “helped” by “the gods above” to show the world what I mean by “free culture to the people”, which is part of our New World Order.
We had brought chairs/table and Danish smørrebrød (open sandwiches), and enjoyed a nice time together, and so much that I received Sanna's feelings that she also believed that this is just what it was, a nice time together, and we were laughing at the same things.
I was thinking of Karen and how nice it would be to have her here experiencing this together, which was also because they played parts of Figaros' Wedding by Mozart, which we saw together at the Royal Opera approx. 10-11 years ago, which made an even deeper impact on me because of how deeply this moved Karen, and I was told that Hans is preparing Karen to see me.
I received the feeling of “it is a pleasure working together with skilled people”, which is the unspoken view of Hans and I both knowing that we work together at the same goal, but the game prevents us from speaking of it, and I was told that Hans succeeded doing his work bringing the world home, and why not celebrate this with Champagne from the fine drinking song from La Traviata, which was also played here this evening, and I told Hans, who loves opera, that I could almost see Pavarotti in his star part singing this, as he does here, and yes, a clear 100 points, it does not get any better :-).
I told my mother that Puccino's “O mio babbino caro”, which was played too this evening and, as usual, is the most beautiful of all, is from the opera Gianni Schicchi, which will be played from November at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, and yes, my mother has a gift voucher for the opera and said that we will go there.

The statement, released on Wednesday, read: At 18.15 yesterday evening, Her Highness Princess Elisabeth passed away quietly after a lengthy illness. The Princess was surrounded by her closest family. Princess Elisabeth was in the order of succession to the Danish throne and lived her final years at Sorgenfri Palace. Elisabeth was Hereditary Prince Knud’s and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde’s first-born child and also the first grandchild of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine. She was 83-years-old.

The Monarchy of Denmark, colloquially known as the Danish Monarchy, is a constitutional institution and a historic office of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Kingdom includes not only Denmark, but the autonomous regions of Greenland and the Faroe Islands. The Kingdom of Denmark were already consolidated in the 8th century, whose rulers are consistently referred to in Frankish sources (and in some late Frisian sources) as Kings (Reges). Under the rule of King Gudfred in 804 the Kingdom may have included all the major provinces of medieval Denmark
The current unified kingdom of Denmark was founded by the Viking kings Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth in the 10th century, making the monarchy of Denmark the oldest in Europe. Originally an elective monarchy, it became hereditary only in the 17th century during the reign of Frederick III. A decisive transition to a constitutional monarchy occurred in 1849 with the writing of the first Constitution. The current Royal House is a branch of the princely family of Glücksburg, originally from Schleswig-Holstein in modern-day Germany, the same royal house as the Norwegian and former Greek royal families.
The Danish Monarchy is constitutional and as such, the role of the monarch is defined and limited by the Constitution of Denmark. According to the constitution, the ultimate executive authority over the government of Denmark is still by and through the monarch's royal reserve powers; in practice these powers are only used according to laws enacted in Parliament or within the constraints of convention. The monarch is, in practice, limited to non-partisan functions such as bestowing honours and appointing the Prime Minister. The monarch and his or her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties.
Queen Margrethe II ascended the throne on the death of her father, King Frederick IX, on 14 January 1972. On her accession, Queen Margrethe II became the first female monarch of Denmark since Margrethe I, ruler of the Scandinavian countries in 1375‒1412, during the Kalmar Union. Danish regnal names have traditionally (since 1513) alternated between Frederick (Frederik) and Christian; Margrethe has taken the place of a Christian, and accordingly her heir apparent is Crown Prince Frederik.
