Alaska Travel Adventures: Rainforest Canoe Adventure and Nature Trail in Ketchikan
The adventure begins with a scenic motorcoach tour to a secluded mountain lake, where you will board Indian-style 37-foot, 20 passenger canoes which are fast, stable, and easy to maneuver. Paddle under the direction of an experienced guide, scan the shore for wildlife and learn the unique natural and Indian history of the Ketchikan area. The lake, part of a lush rain forest, is ideal for canoeing and is surrounded by the Tongass, the largest National Forest in the United States.
Stop ashore for a native-style snack including smoked salmon, clam chowder, rolls with wild berry jams and beverages. A knowledgeable guide will lead a short nature walk highlighting the flora and fauna of the rain forest, including a carnivorous plant, the Sundew, which uses tentacles with an adhesive dew to ensnare small insects. Paddle back to the canoe dock and reboard your motorcoach that returns to the cruise ship pier.
This adventure is a rare opportunity to comfortably explore Southeast Alaska in the manner of its original explorers and early culture.
3-week Solo Kayak Camping and Fishing in Alaska from Ketchikan to Dixon Entrance (part 1)
These are the first days of a 3-week solo kayak camping and fishing trip thru south Alaska. I traveled from Ketchikan to Prince of Wales to fish remote lake systems. In this episode I traveled from Ketchikan to the SW corner of Gravina Island and waited for clearing weather that will allow me to cross the Dixon Entrance over to Prince of Wales Island. It was non-stop rain and wind for days. Welcome to summer in Alaska!
I move along the coastline at a slow pace due to the weather, taking frequent breaks. I find camping at a couple of river mouths, but I am held up by nearly constant rainfall. Eventually the bad weather begins to move onward during the third day.
In part 2, I leave Gravina Island a couple of hours before the small craft advisories (SCA) is lifted, and the first half of the crossing is done under marginal conditions. By the time I reach Prince of Wales island it has been 11 hours since the start of my day. It is around midnight when I find a small beach where I can land and scratch out a small sleeping area. As I'm unloading gear from the kayak and setting up camp a large black bear approaches out of the dark. I am able to chase it away by yelling and throwing rocks but the experience is unsettling to say the least and I don't get much sleep that first night on PoW Island.

RV'ing Alaska's Inside Passage
The adventure begins on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia with a visit to Telegraph Cove, possibly the best place on Earth to view Orca (killer whales). We continue north to Ketchikan, Alaska's first city on the Inside Passage. Here we explore the spectacular Misty Fjords National Monument by kayak and float plane. We also learn about the art of totem pole carving and watch as they are created. A short side trip by ferry takes us to Prince Of Wales Island, which has more than 2,000 miles of logging roads for exploration. The island is also known for its luxury fishing lodges.
Wrangell calls itself Alaska's Hidden Jewel and is paradise for those seeking outdoor adventure! Many say that if you're looking for the real Alaska, you'll find it here. The Anan Bear Observatory is considered to be one of the best in the state and the only place where black and brown bears feed together. We take an exciting jet boat tour up the Stikine River - the last great un-dammed river on the continent - and visit Telegraph Creek as well as the Grand Canyon of the Stikine.
The ferry becomes part of the adventure as we head north through the Wrangell Narrows - the single most difficult navigational stretch on the Passage. Petersburg is Alaska's Little Norway and Southeast's busiest processing port, home to the area's largest fishing fleet. Sitka was once the Russian capital of Alaska and is one of the most beautiful spots on our route. We explore the town's history and native culture. The Alaska Raptor Center offers a close-up at eagles. A wildlife cruise to St. Lazaria Island lets us observe whales, puffins, sea lions and otters. A snorkeling tour reveals Alaska's underwater world.
Juneau is the state capital. The biggest attraction is Mendenhall Glacier, which we explore with an exciting helicopter tour and glacier trek. Some of the best humpback whale watching is within a short boat ride of town. Incredible glacier calving and towering cliffs can be seen at nearby Tracy Arm. Side trips take us to beautiful Glacier Bay and the quirky little town of Pelican.
Our adventure ends with a tour of historic Skagway and more wilderness adventures in Haines, including a river tour, an air boat ride and panning for gold.

Alaska Yellow Eye & Lingcod Fishing
Many argue Alaska offers the best yellow eye, rockfish and lingcod fishing in the world. Without hesitation, Team Pautzke flew north to Anchorage, hopped on a plane to Kenai and drove to Seward to hop on a boat in search of trophy bottomfish action.
Rather than hire a guide, two of our pros, Luke Haman of Kenai River Guides and John Albrich searched the topographic charts to find remote islands where we could test our brines and scents and see how well we could catch fish, even with no prior experience. None of us had ever fished this area, roughly 100 miles from Seward. Fortunately, success echoed the entire three days we spent on the Pacific Ocean.
Armed with herring marinated in Pautzke Chartreuse Fire Brine and Halibut & Rockfish Nectar, we dropped our herring tipped jigs to bottom in search of rocky pinnacles and were able to induce strikes on every drift from various rockfish species. Combined with world class scenery, intimate encounters with wildlife and rare calm, sunny days on the open ocean, it was an unforgettable experience we'll all never forget.

EXPLORING CASTLE ISLANDS in SOUTHEAST ALASKA VLOG EP. 5
Southeast Alaska has 2,670 named islands to explore! The adventures are never ending, if you have a way to get there. We were in invited to visit Castle Island with some friends. So after work on a Friday we packed our bags and loaded up the skiff to head out to see an island I had never been to, part of the Castle Island cluster. Funny how you think you can go somewhere and that no one has EVER been there before. That was not the case, but still as you see the footage I hope you are as amazed as I was at the beauty of this island.
