Complete Guide to Visiting the Beautiful Islands of Okinawa Japan|Day 106-109 - Okinawa
Okinawa (沖縄県, Okinawa-ken) is Japan's southernmost prefecture, consisting of a few dozen, small islands in the southern half of the Nansei Shoto, the island chain which stretches over about one thousand kilometers from Kyushu to Taiwan. Okinawa Prefecture can be divided into three major island groups, the Okinawa Islands (Okinawa Shoto) around Okinawa Island (Okinawa Honto), the Miyako Islands (Miyako Retto) around Miyako Island and the Yaeyama Islands (Yaeyama Retto) around Ishigaki Island. Okinawa's climate is subtropical, with temperatures barely falling below 15 degrees in winter. The seas surrounding Okinawa's islands are considered among the world's most beautiful with coral reefs and abundant marine wildlife. Consequently, snorkeling and scuba diving are among Okinawa's top attractions.
The islands making up Okinawa Prefecture, are also known as the Ryukyu Islands, named after the native culture, which is distinctly different from that of the rest of Japan in terms of language, cuisine, arts, etc.
We had tons of fun here and it is definitely a wonderful vacation spot for any travelers venturing off to Japan.

Diving the Southern Channel Crevices and the Tokyo Monument, Okinawa, Japan
Went diving at two sites: the southern channel crevices and the Tokyo Monument (which is apparently somewhere near by the dive site). These sites are in southeastern Okinawa and have tons a swim thrus and holes to explore, but less coral reef and wildlife than other sites on the island.

Swimming with humpback whales in Okinawa Japan
This video was taken off of the coast of Okinawa where we had the opportunity to jump in the water with a couple of full grown adult humpback whales.
Explore Okinawa Ocean: Diving interview
[Explore Okinawa Ocean]
In the 1980s, Yonaguni Monument was found in Yonaguni Island which is the westernmost island in Japan.
Even now, there is debate about whether the site is natural or a man-made artifact. We interviewed Kihachiro Aratake,
a discoverer of the site, about the fascination of diving at the Yonaguni underwater.
[Location]
-Underwater ruins
The underwater ruins of Yonaguni Island is a sunken structure located 100 meters off the coast of Arakawabana, on the southern shore of the island. A reef spanning more than 50 meters east and west, 150 meters north and south, and 25 to 26 meters high has patios, stairs, and ditches that look like gutters which seem to be fabricated by hand, making it look like a ruin. Although various investigations are being conducted, they have not yet reached a conclusion whether it’s manmade or was created by nature. If it’s indeed artificial, the distribution of plants and animals as well as stalactite signifies that it’s from over 10,000 years ago, making it the world’s oldest ancient ruin. It’s a famous diving spot, but recently, it can be seen from above sea in a glass bottom boat.

Okinawa Love Motels Part 2 RY Water Hotel
This was a fantastic place to visit. Easily acessable from many of the local bases it is perfect for a great night out with that special someone or just to get out of the house and relax for a little while. This is probably the easiest hotel that I have come into contact with on Okinawa for English speakers. The only down side is that the hotel does not have private parking areas per each room and you might possibly come in contact with other people which is not common but it is still a possibility. Privacy is very important though to the Japanese and the etiquette for this is to just continue on not giving the other couple a glance. All in all between the music that was playing in the rooms (Ocean sounds with whale songs) and the atmosphere I can not say anything bad about this hotel and will definitely consider going back.

A beautiful day overlooking the East China Sea. A couple of planes fly over on their way to land at the airstrip on Kadena Airbase, and a boat is anchored near the reef during low tide.

Trip to Northern Okinawa, Japan! | Butterfly Garden, Soba, & Churaumi Aquarium
We make a day trip up to the Northern part of Okinawa to check out the Butterfly Garden and Churaumi Aquarium and eat some soba and Okinawan donuts. So in this video, I wanted to share what a typical, fun-filled day would look like. We live in the southern part of the island so going up north is a perfect way to escape to a change of scenery and enjoy the natural beauty of Okinawa. All of the places we went to were all located on the same street and there were a lot more attractions near by (like Pineapple Park and Fruits Land) that you can easily add to your trip!
The Butterfly Garden was not just limited to the butterfly attraction, they had many beautiful flowers and pathways that overlooked the ocean. You can also buy your aquarium tickets here and skip the line at the aquarium itself. As for the Okinawa soba restaurant, it is best to get there as early as possible. We went there around 2pm and they only had 2 servings of noodles left so we got lucky. The aquarium is one of the main attractions on island and showcases all of the beautiful sea creatures that live around the island. Akari loved seeing all the fish!
Please leave me any questions you have about your trip in the comment section!

Diving Hedo Beach, Okinawa, Japan
Scuba diving at the northern-most tip of the island of Okinawa, Japan. This remote beach was deserted and was an easy entry from the shore. Lots of fish were schooling and the bottom was a joy to swim through.

Visiting Amazing Cape Hedo, Okinawa in Japan
Cape Hedo (辺戸岬 Hedo-misaki?), or Hedo Point, is the northernmost point on Okinawa Island, located within Kunigami Village. A cape jutting out north from the island, it faces the South China Sea on the west, and the Pacific Ocean on the east. On a particularly clear day, the island of Yoron (Yoronjima) in Kagoshima Prefecture can be seen on the horizon. Yoron Island is located approximately 23 kilometres (14 mi) to the north.[1][2]
Cape Hedo is part of Okinawa Dai Sekirinzan Quasi-National Park, a prefectural park established in 1965 and re-established with the reversion of Okinawa to Japan in 1972.[2]
In the Shōhō Kuniezu, a kuniezu, or series of Japanese provincial land maps created during the Edo period (1603 – 1868), Cape Hedo appears as Heto misaki, or Cape Heto. The expedition of Commodore Perry (1794 – 1858) visited Cape Hedo and recorded it as Cape Hope in his Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan. The Nihon Suiroshi, a pilot guide first issued in 1892, records that the cape is also known as Cape Kunigami and is commonly used as a nautical landmark. For more info, visit this link:
