Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino.
00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day.
2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived.
3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular.
5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47).
10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended.
13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35)
14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person.
16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner!
Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food!

Eating ENTIRE Huge FLORENTINE STEAK in Florence Italy
My first time in Florence Italy and as soon as I got off the train from Venice, I had to find a restaurant that serves the traditional Florentine steak. This cut of steak is leaner than most other steaks I've had, especially the A5 wagyu in Japan.
I got the T bone which gave me two different cuts of steak meat and the tenderloin part was just mind blowingly delicious. The steak had a huge beef flavor and the tenderloin part of the steak was just the most tender steak ever.

Day 15: Rome, Italy - To start our day in Rome we first headed over to the Pantheon and had some amazing espresso. Then we visited the Pantheon, which is one of the most famous attractions in Rome. We had pizza for lunch and then walked over to the Vatican City. After doing some of top things to do in the Vatican City, we ate Roman Jewish food for dinner.
1:07 La Casa Del Caffè Tazza D'oro - There were two cafes I wanted to check out, so the first, located right next to the Pantheon was La Casa Del Caffè Tazza D'oro. The espresso was awesome. Price - .90 EUR per coffee ($1.00)
2:54 Pantheon - One of the most famous attractions in Rome is the Pantheon, and although I had seen it the day before, I didn’t have a chance to go in. So today we admired the amazing Pantheon.
4:23 Gelateria Della Palma - Right around the corner from the Pantheon is a gelato shop that has so many different flavors, it will drive you crazy trying to decide what to order. Since we arrived early, this gelato shop still wasn’t busy. Ying especially enjoyed the gelato. Gelato - 3.5 EUR ($3.92)
6:09 Sant'Eustachio Il Caffè - I’m pretty crazy for coffee, so we stopped into another famous coffee shop to have another cup of espresso. They make one of the creamiest espressos I’ve ever had, even though it doesn’t include milk. Coffee - 1.30 EUR ($1.45)
7:43 Antico Forno Roscioli - One of the most famous foods to eat in Rome is pizza, especially when you want a quick bite to eat. Roscioli as its known for short is a full bakery, and their pizza is amazing. I started with a tomato and cheese pizza, followed by some slices with other toppings. Total price - 9.94 EUR ($11.12)
12:32 Vatican City - The Vatican City, a city state within Rome and ruled by the Pope is a must visit when you’re in Rome. I bought tickets online and we first headed to the Vatican Museums, one of the world’s most famous art museums. Along with the Sistine Chapel, I especially enjoyed seeing the Raphael Rooms. Vatican Museums Online tickets - 20 EUR ($22.37) per person
17:01 St. Peter's Basilica - After the Vatican Museums, we walked over to St. Peter’s Basilica, and after walking around for a while, I decided to climb to the top of St. Peter's Basilica Dome, which was one of the highlights of visiting the Vatican City for me - 6 EUR ($6.71).
20:53 Roman Jewish Food at Nonna Betta Restaurant - There’s a long history of Jews in Rome, and Roman Jewish food is common in Rome especially in a certain area of the city. I didn’t want to leave Rome without eating some Roman Jewish food, so we ate dinner at a restaurant called Nonna Betta. The artichoke was good, the pasta was good, but the real winner dish for me was the oxtail. Total price - 49 EUR ($54.82)
Day 14 in Rome was an excellent day of visiting attractions in the Vatican City and eating delicious pizza and Roman Jewish food.

Spaghetti alla Carbonara Convivio Rome Recipe
This recipe is Straight from Italy! This delicious recipe for Spaghetti alla Carbonara is from Chef Guido at Convivio Rome Cooking Holidays . We took a cooking class from this chef and published food author in the countryside outside Rome.
I highly endorse them! It was our favorite day of vacation (even my husbands!) and we walked away with new skills and new friends!
Check them out at conviviorome.com .
Spaghetti alla Carbonara
1 lb of dried spaghetti
2 ounces of pancetta
2 ounces of pecorino romano cheese, grated
black pepper (approx 1 tsp)
4 eggs
extra virgin olive oil (approx 1 tbl)
Put a large pot of salted water onto the stove to boil.Cut the pancetta into short sticks. Put a little olive oil in a pan and fry pancetta until crispy. Whisk the eggs in a bowl with pecorino cheese, black pepper and a pinch of salt. When pasta is cooked, drain the pasta, put it back in the hot pot and mix all the ingredients until the eggs acquire a creamy consistency, without scrambling the eggs. Serve with extra pepper on top.
Tip: This sauce is very quick, and when ready needs to be stirred into the cooked 'aldente' spaghetti and served immediately.

Spiced In Italy! Cooking at Tenuta Quarrata
Full Recipe Below:
Many Thanks to our Friends at Tenuta Quarrata for making us so welcome:
Rayeesa’s Italian/Indian Chicken curry
Ingredients:
2/3 onions sliced
500g vine tomatoes cut into ¼
2/3 tbsp. Olive oil
1 kg chicken pieces on the bone
4 cloves fresh garlic finely chopped
1” fresh ginger finely chopped
1 tsp. peppercorns
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
¾ large bay leaves
1 tsp. Turmeric
1 tsp. chilli powder
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. sea salt.
Fresh coriander to garnish
Method:
Gently heat the olive oil in a large pan (be careful not to get the oil too high temp. as it will
loose its nutrients and flavour) and add the sliced onions so that they sizzle gently. Stir them
in well.
Reduce the heat and cook onions down for around 20-30 minutes, so that they soften and
lightly caramelise.
Add the whole spices and cook gently for 1 -2 minutes
Then add the garlic and ginger and ground spices and cook for 10 minutes. (Keep adding a
splash of water to stop the mixture catching on the bottom of the pan.
Once the oil has separated from the onion mixture, add your fresh tomatoes and mix well.
Cook for a further 5-10 minutes until the tomatoes break down a little.
Now add your chicken pieces and brown well in the hot sauce mixture. (5-10 mins)
Add a little water ( ½ cup or so) and reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the
chicken is cooked through.
Once the oil separates and comes to the top, check for seasoning and adjust if required.
Garnish with plenty of fresh coriander and serve to hungry guests.
Spice and her team in italy Rome.
