Exploring Stockholm's Djurgården - An Island of Parks and Museums
The Djurgården area in Stockholm is an entire island full of parks and museums. During our day exploring the park we just scratched the surface of this vast recreational area. We saw the remarkably preserved 17th century warship at the Vasa Museum, experienced the lifestyle of historical Sweden and learned about native animals at the Skansen open-air museum, and tried some classic Swedish alcohol at the Sprit Museum. In between it all we took in the beautiful Stockholm waterfront that surrounds this wonderful area of the city.

Sweden: Spirits of a Nation
“Sweden: Spirits of a Nation” is Spritmuseum’s major exhibition, focusing on the Swedes’ bittersweet relationship to alcohol. The exhibition is designed as a walk through the seasons of the year, given shape through sceneries, scents, tastes and music. Visitors can relax on a park bench or hang out in the bar, partaking in pain and pleasure, enjoyment and hangovers, light and dark, warmth and cold.
The exhibition pinpoints certain phenomena we all have experienced whether we drink alcohol or not: drinking songs, building an identity using alcohol, norms, attitudes and values. The exhibition also delves into the actual production of alcohol, including rules and restrictions.
With “Sweden: Spirits of a Nation”, Spritmuseum wants to activate all the senses and evoke memories. The aim is to affect the visitor on several levels, to cause us to reflect on alcohol as a cultural symbol and to make us think about our complicated relationship to alcohol in our everyday lives.

Last full day in Stockholm. We explored the uber-trendy Soldermalm district. Then took a ferry to Djurgården and hit the new Spritmuseum. An institution all about cocktails. What's not to love? Also houses the Absolut Art Collection. Very happy we made the effort to go. Fantastic getting to see the originals from Warhol, Herring, et al. Also several fantastic, interactive exhibits about drinks, their history and effects on the body. Had dinner at the oh-so-chic Nobis Hotel then walked into Gamla stan one last time on a gloriously beautiful evening.

Lär känna knegarparet Frans och Lars vars liv förändrades en augustidag 1897 då de ertappades i ett skogsbryn på Djurgården. Två år tidigare hade den ene påbörjat sin karriär som internationell damimitatör, kort sagt druga.
Vi gråter en tår över Ulla Billquists öde att tvingas sjunga att hon saknar sin soldat, fast hon egentligen ville öppna sitt fönster för sin älskarinna. Vi filosoferar kring de hemliga fester som ägde rum år 1944, var kanske Ernst Rolf med?
Vi tänker också på ett smutsigt Stockholm fullt av lögner, konspirationer och rädslor. Vi både skrattar och fördömer rättsväsendets och pressens uppförande under den stora rättsrötan. Vi tänker på förra seklets dekadenta klubbar och absurda lagar. Och vi hedrar minnet över transpersoner som Mats Erson och lilla vackra Rosen.
