Sadguru Sree Abhedananda Swamiji was born on 8th April, 1909 at ‘Kodivilakom’ House, at Pararassala in Neyyattinkara Taluk in Thiruvananthapurma District. The star on that day was ‘Visakham’. His name was Velayudhan. From the very childhood, he showed signs of an exhalted soul. Later Velayudhan took his life mission for propagating the “Kaliyugadharma” of constant chanting of God’s name – Akhanda Name Japam – and to install the taste of ‘Nama’ in all people in the community. His “Nama-Sangeerthan” echoed throughout the country during the last century. He had travelled throughout the country on foot and kindled the light of his mission at every nook and corner. During this pursuit Swamiji took rigorous tapas at various holy places at Himalaya, Cape Comorin, Sabarimala etc., and studied Vedams, Upanishads and many other high spiritual lessons and practices, and became a ‘Sanyasi’ in the truest sense of the term. He could achieve this at an early age of 27. The great Sri. Swaroopananda Swamiji of Rishikesh blessed him with ‘Sanyasa’ and named him rightly as “Abhedananda” realising his Abhedadarsan in each and every thing and person. He believed and preached that all human beings are alike, without any difference and every person has full authority to serve God, to follow and preach spirituality and perform poojas at temples. He preached that “Namasankeerthan has the power to impress deeply that Cast, Creed etc., have no bearing on human life, He accepted each and everyone a like with respect and love. To propagate His mission, Swamiji established two Ashramams, one at Trivandrum and the other Arayoor (Neyyattinkara, Near Cape Commorin)
Another Ashramams at Kanakal (Haridwar near River Ganga was established after Swamiji’s Maha Samadhi, by his devotees as per his earlier directions, Akhanda Nama Japam is being continued in all these centers. Hence these centers are famous as Mahamanthralayas. The Trivandrum and Arayoor Ashramams were established in the memory of Swamiji’s Gurudev Sri. Vidyadhiraja Chattambi Swamigak. Haridwar Ashram was named as Abheda Gangamayi Ashramam.

Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi temple (Maheswaram Temple) also known as “DAKSHINA KAILASAM - ദക്ഷിണകൈലാസം” is situated at Maheswaram (Chenkal), 26km away from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. Maheswaram Temple is constructed entirely out of Krishna Stone and wood in the traditional architecture of Kerala temple construction. Maheswaram Temple is the Centre of ancient Hindu Culture in Kerala. In front of East Nada there is a huge Nandi followed by 3 storied Rajagopuram. Maheswaram Temple is the only temple in the world, where devotees can worship 12 Jyothirlingam of Lord Siva and 32 forms of Lord Ganesha at one place. MAHALINGAM, the world’s largest Sivalingam having 111feet height is one of the main attractions of Maheswaram temple. MahaSivaratri is celebrated with great pomp at this temple. Temple opens every day at 4:30 am and closes at 11:00 am in the morning and reopens at 4:30 pm in the evening and closes at 8:00 pm.
A miraculous boy was born on 16th November 1954 (30th Tulam 1130 ME) in pooyam star as the eighth son of Chellamma and Jnanaprakasam of Chenkal village, Neyyattinkara Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram district. He had many peculiarities right from birth. The most characteristic among them was his matted hair on the head. When he was around three, he used to meditate sitting in the southwest corner of his house. At the age of ten, he renamed himself as krishnan and began to known as Krishanankutty. Later a termitary came up at that place resembling Sri Sivaparvathi. One day a person at that village ridiculed that the termitary has no miraculous power and trampled it. A serpent appeared from that and that person ran for his life. With this, the fame of the termitary spread among the people of that locality and devotees started arriving in large numbers. Later he built a Sivaparvathi temple at the place where there was termitary.
After getting divine darshan of God in dream swamiji constructed Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya temples. This brought the concept of Sivaparivar at the temple. It was the astroller and the temple priest Mukkolakkal Krishnan who first gave him initiation of sacred text of manthras. Then he became a desciple of Keezhperur Madom K.S. Madhavan Namboodiri, from there he learned puja rituals and procedures of worship. He commenced Ganapathi homam (holy materials to the sacrificial fire) with one cocanut and now with 10008 cocanuts on Vinayaka chathurthi day. Hearing about this rare event at Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi Temple, head of Kanchikamakodi Madam Sri Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswathi swamigal visited temple in 2010 and blessed Krishnankutty Swamy. Appreciating the spiritual activities of Krishnankutty Swamy, Sri Sri Sri Jayendra Saraswathi swamigal gave Diksha to Krishnankutty swamy. Since then ChenkalKrishnankuttySwamy became known as Swamy Maheswarananda Saraswathi and the temple trust was renamed as Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi Temple Trust. On 20th Februvary 2011 (9th Kumbha, 1186 ME) Lord Mahadeva gave him divine darshan and commanded Swamiji to construct a temple as designed by ancient saints.
As per swamiji’s instructions Temple reconstruction using Krishna stone and wood in accordance with Ancient Temple Architecture of Kerala and as per Vasthusasthra commenced on 9th of Kumbha, 1187(ME). Idol was installed in Balalayam on 05.03.2012 (21stKumbham 1187). Foundation stone of the temple was laid on 23.03.2012 (10thMeenam 1187). Idol of Sri Sivaparvathi was moulded in Panchaloham (5metals). On 21.01.2016 Kodimaram was installed in front of the Kizhakke Nada (East Entrance). Idol installation ceremony of the Maheswaram Temple held between 9am and 10am on 06.02.2017.On 02.11.2017, Dvadasa (12) Jyothirlingam of Lord Siva were installed inside the chuttambalam, surrounding Sri Sivaparvathi. 32 Forms of Lord Ganesha were installed at the Maheswaram Temple on 13.09.2018.At North-West corner of Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi Temple there is Mahalingam having 111.2 feet height. Mahalingam at Maheswaram Temple is the world’s highest Sivalingam.

Chenkal Maheswaram Siva Parvathi Temple | Largest Sivalingam In the World
Mahalingam at Maheswaram Temple is the world’s highest Sivalingam. Mahalingam is unique in its style of Construction. Mahalingam has plenty of unique peculiarities. One of the peculiarities is its style of construction. Devotees can enter into this Mahalingam. The construction of this Sivalingam is based on Shadadharam. There are 6 different meditation halls representing different chakra (Adhara) in human body. Those chakras are Muladhara, Swadhishthana, Manipura, Anahatha, Vishuddha and Ajna. Muladhara is the seat of physical vitality and the fundamental urge to survive. It regulates those mechanisms which keep the physical body alive. It is the chakra whose main aspect is innocence. It is symbolized by a lotus with four petals. Swadhishthana is where we develop an inward sense of self and an outward awareness of others - ego, sexuality and family. The feelings of other people are directly perceived through mastery of this chakra’s energy. It is symbolized by a lotus with six petals within which there is a crescent moon. Manipura is located at the centre of the body. It is the place where physical energy is distributed. It is the center for unrefined emotions and personal power. It is the center that gives us the sense of complete satisfaction and contentment. Our creativity is fueled by our power of will. It is symbolized by a downward pointing triangle with ten petals. Anahata is the centre of real, unconditional affection, spiritual growth, compassion, devotion and love. It is the bridge connecting the lower and higher energies of our being and is the place where our Spirit, our true Self - free and independent resides. Anahata is symbolized by circular flower with twelve petals. Vishuddha is the centre for communication, self-expression and creativity. This is where the inner voice of one’s truth is expressed. It is the chakra of diplomacy of pure relationships with others. It is represented by a silver crescent within a white circle with 16 petals. Ajna is the seat of intuition and direct spiritual vision; it is here that we visualize things through our “third eye” of intuitive knowledge. The opening of the third-eye corresponds with spiritual awakening. It is the chakra of forgiveness and compassion. It is symbolized by a lotus with two petals. Meditation halls representing Muladhara, Swadhishthana, Manipura, Anahatha, Vishuddha and Ajna are coloured Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Indigo respectively.
In addition to the 6 meditation halls there exist another 2 halls, one at the bottom and other at the top of the Mahalingam. Devotees are allowed to meditate at each meditation hall by knowing about and concentrating at symbols of each chakra present there. Through meditation at Mahalingam, devotees can attain self realization (“Aham Brahmasmi”). In the Prayer hall (at the bottom of Sivalingam), there is a large Sivalingam. This is for the devotees to realize the fact that one should worship his own god by himself. Here Devotees themselves can worship Lord Siva and can proceed to the next six meditation halls to meditate by concentrating on symbols of each Adhara and finally devotees can reach Kailasam which is at the top level of Mahalingam. There each devotee can reach at the Sannidhi of Sri Sivaparvathi at Kailasam. At this highest level one can realize the ultimate truth “Aham Brahmasmi”. Way to the top level of the Mahalingam is spiral shaped and is surrounded by a cave like atmosphere and plenty of carvings (of Monks) pertained to meditation. Inside Mahalingam, 108 different Sivalingam can be seen along with 64 forms of Lord Siva. The serene atmosphere inside the Sivalingam gives a rich spiritual experience to each devotee who visits Maheswaram Sri Sivaparvathi Temple.
