DRIVING IN SRI LANKA: 5-DAY ROAD TRIP | FROM SIGIRIYA TO TANGALLE
Hi guys! In this video from December, we went to Sri Lanka, hired a car and realised that driving in Sri Lanka isn't too bad at all. We didn't have any accidents and Pepe quite enjoyed driving in Sri Lanka! On our 5-day road trip, we managed to visit Sigiriya, Kandy, Kalutara, Tangalle, Mirissa and Negombo. Unfortunately, the weather in Sri Lanka in December wasn't great at all, it was raining almost every day, but we still enjoyed the trip a lot!

Tour Sri Lanka Negombo - Beach and Fish Market - Vlog #04
It was nonstop heavy raining in Sri Lanka, therefore I just hired a Toktok (Riksha) for 4 hours and he showed me around the City. We explored Negombo Fish Market, Beach and some markets. Surprisingly the Riksha Driver Prasad was good in English Communication. Sri Lankans are very friendly people and seems very hardworking, as I didn’t see them stopping their jobs because of the rain.

Panama Papers reveals names of Sri Lankans with offshore accounts by Sandun Arosha
ECONOMYNEXT - The names of several Sri Lanka domiciled individuals, including Nissanka Senadhipathi of Avant Garde, have been disclosed in the Panama Papers released on the Internet on Monday.
According to documents leaked from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, Senadhipathi incorporated an offshore company in the British Virgin Islands with three others.
The four shareholders of the Avant Garde offshore operation are Yapa Hetti Pathirannahalage Nissanka Yapa Senadhipathi, Senerath Bandara Dissanayake, Prasanna Athanasius Sirimevan Rajaratne and Y. H. P. Kithsiri Manjula Kumara Yapa.
It was Mossack Fonseca's Singapore operation that helped Avant Garde set up its offshore operation in the British Virgin Islands.
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake announced last week that the government was setting up a special panel to chase after nationals likely to figure in the Panama Papers, a trove of leaked documents on global tax evasion.
The government, which came into power in January last year on a promise to clean up corruption, has accused former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, his family and their friends of siphoning off billions of dollars during his decade in power - a charge he has denied.
Avant Garde's Senadhipathi is already under investigation for money laundering, a charge he has denied.
Finance Minister Karunanayake said Colombo would investigate each and every Sri Lankan whose names will figure in the Panama Papers, which became publicly available from the night of May 9.
He accused the former government of failing to look into 46 Sri Lankans whose names came up in a 2013 probe known as Offshore Leaks by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), which is also behind the Panama Papers.
About 11.5 million leaked documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca revealed the large-scale use of offshore entities to conceal assets from tax authorities.
The Sri Lankan domiciled individuals are as follows:
Kenneth John Pendigrast
Yapa Hetti Pathirannahalage Nissanka Yapa Senadhipathi
Mohamed Siddeek Mohamed Ali
Senerath Bandara Dissanayake
Min Xuan

The following Sri Lankan addresses had been given to set up offshore operations:

There are legitimate uses for offshore companies and trusts. The ICIJ, which is behind the Panama Papers leak, does not suggest or imply that any persons, companies or other entities included in their earlier OffShore Leaks database or the Panama Papers have broken the law or acted improperly.
However, individuals and companies mentioned in the papers may have a lot of explaining to do. In the case of the Sri Lankans, they will have to explain to the Inland Revenue Department and the Central Bank how they set up such operations.
Sri Lankan law allows nationals to set up offshore operations, but it must be declared to the Inland Revenue Department and the Exchange Control department of the Central Bank. If not, they will be liable for prosecution under the Inland Revenue Act, exchange control laws and anti-money laundering legislation. (COLOMBO, May 10 2016)
So Sri lankaa ???????? (Colombo, Habarana, Sigiriya, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Bentota, Beruwala and Galle)
Hello guys, I know it's been a really long break from editing but I am back with another travel video and this time we kicked off 2019 with a trip to Sri Lanka!
Alot of temples, sweaty treks, waterfalls and breathtaking beaches.
If you liked the video, you know the drill!
If you are travelling to Sri Lanka any time soon, down below i have given a brief description about my trip and therefore head start to plan your trip.
So we boarded from Delhi and it took us roughly 4 hours to reach Colombo. Through out this trip, we will be covering 6 major cities of Sri Lanka.
So we hired a minibus from Colombo and travelled to Habarana, which is a 3-hour drive. Habarana is famous for its elephant safari and open grasslands.
Maintain silence when inside the park as there have been incidents where the elephants charge on the jeeps due to annoyance.
We travelled a month later to the terrorist attacks, so apparently, the tourism sector went down and we got personalised services all the time. Plus point!
From Habarana, we started early for the UNESCO World Heritage site, The Sigiriya Rock. It is also considered to be the 8th wonder of the world and the view astonished me with the unique harmony between nature and human imagination. I’ll advise you to hire a local guide to know more about the systematically planned architecture. It is a must visit if you are in Sri Lanka.
The guide also told us there is a long queue for the trek during the peak season, so be well before time.
Next stop was Kandy, which is the hill capital of Sri Lanka. It is a small town situated amidst the hills. The weather was chilly so carry your fleece.
In Kandy, visit the famous temple of the ancient tooth relic, situated in the Royal Complex of the former kingdom of Kandy!
It's a Buddhist temple, so make sure you are covered entirely.
You should visit the local sweet vendors and try their authentic Lankan sweets!
Next in line is Nuwara Eliya, which is apparently is the place where Seeta Maa was held in captivatio also known Ashoka Vatika.. Nuwara Eliya is a hill station so the temperature drops significantly. Do carry warm clothes.
Make sure you visit Lake Gregory, which is the heart of the tea country hill city. It is famous for its tea plantations, so don’t forget to spill some tea, sis.
Shoutout to Indian summer for serving us the best Indian food in Lanka, situated right next to the lake in Nuwara Eliya.
On our way to Nuwara Eliya, we stopped to see the Ramboda waterfall surrounded by the tea plantations.
One can take a quick break, and enjoy the view with some good tea and snacks!
Onto my favourite city, Beruwala has the most chill vibe and one can enjoy water sports and snorkel out there!
We relaxed at the beach and spent the majority of the time in the pool!
Next day, we visited the city of Galle which was a Portuguese town. It has a beautiful aesthetic vibe to it and don’t forget to get clicked near the lighthouse.
Do visit the mama’s cafe, which is the original cafe of a very famous cafe chain in Sri Lanka.
Galle has very vintage shops, so one can buy antiques from there.
One can also visit Mirrisa, for the blue whale sightings in the Indian Ocean. But it’s risky when its raining and the sea is rough.
On our way back we stopped at Bentota for the river safari, which was sad so you can skip it. I’ll advise you to spend your time at the beach, and watch the sun go down.
The last day we planned to visit, Colombo, where one can do a day tour and visit the Odel mall for souvenirs.
Sri Lanka is a small and beautiful place to visit. Don’t forget to drink there most special coconut water.
Also be careful with the spices, because they have their meals cooked in a lot of spices.

Welcome to Sri Lanka!
This island off the coast of India has long been on my bucket-list for loads of reasons, like having the best safari outside of Africa, boasting eight UNESCO World Heritage sites to explore, and lots of lovely, gorgeous beaches complete with idyllic white sand and crystal clear water that's perfect for surfing.
In fact, for an island about a ¼ of the size of the UK, there's loads to see and do, depending, of course, on what you want out of your trip.
Coming up, I'm going to tell you about getting here, some tips on transport, then some stuff on food, money and language and some awesome places to visit.
So, let's get on with it…
We flew 10 hours direct from Heathrow to Colombo, which is Sri Lanka’s capital city. Flights arrive at Bandaranaike International airport, which is 30km north of the city.
Taxis are very cheap in Sri Lanka, and this can be the easiest, and certainly quickest way to reach your destination from the airport. If you’re heading straight into Colombo you can catch the express bus which takes about 25 minutes, but to be honest the taxis are so cheap it’s a no-brainer.
To enter the country, you’re gonna need a visa. Now this can be done when you get here, but, after ten hours in the air ..why bother with the extra admin!?
Get it done before you leave. Applications cost $35 and take around 24 hours to process.
Also, you’re gonna need to make sure that your vaccinations are up to date, like your tetanus and typhoid. Check with your GP beforehand.
What do you need to know about public transport in Sri Lanka? Well, in all honesty, quite a bit…
Public transport conditions aren't great, but are popular with locals as it's very cheap.
Buses tend to leave when they’re full, so for anyone on a schedule we’d give them a miss.
Also, trains are often slower and less efficient than simply getting a taxi.
My advice: take anything described as luxury or express with a generous pinch of salt.
The key thing in Sri Lanka is that your money goes a long way, for example our two-hour taxi from Colombo to Unawatuna cost 9000 rupees, which is about 40 quid, so for this reason we made the most of getting around with private car hire and tuk-tuks.
Hiring a driver to chauffeur you around is surprisingly affordable and, let's face it, way more luxurious! It's also a big timesaver which is a massive a bonus.
The roads are in surprisingly good condition...
...just watch out for the tourists, the cyclists, the buffalo, stray dogs, and massive lizards they all make it a little hair-raising at times.
We used Uber to navigate Colombo and Red Cabs for everywhere else.
Failing that you could always haggle for a tuk tuk, which are ideal for quick journeys. There are a couple of things you need to know before you start off. Number 1 always agree the price before settings off and number 2 be direct about where you want to go, don’t settle for any detours or any other places they might want to take you.
Anyway, up next, here are some of my favourite things to do in Sri Lanka.
Unawatuna is loved by locals and tourists alike, and with palm trees, white sands and blue waters, it's easy to see why it’s one of Sri Lanka’s most popular beaches.
Right behind the beach is a small shopping strip for souvenirs and restaurants...
… And Ladies, going topless on the beach is a definite no-no, and if you're a couple, make the P in PDA stand for PRIVATE, not PUBLIC.
OK, Newsflash!!! Sri Lanka has the best safari outside of Africa since the country has one of the highest rates of indigenous plants and animals in the world. Udawalawe National Park is a personal highlight of mine and home to some 200 different species.
