Fairway Colombo – What a pleasure it was to stay here in June 2019. It’s a super-smart but budget city hotel in the heart of the nightlife, in the area called Colombo Fort, just behind the old Dutch Hospital restaurant and souvenir shopping complex, by Colombo’s own World Trade Centre twin towers.

Fairway Colombo – Intimate Comfort in Sri Lanka
We were welcomed at the entrance to Fairway Colombo hotel by attentive staff and security detail for a luggage check. The lobby, with gleaming Italian marble flooring, is small and registration was done swiftly. I was issued with a key card that not only gave access to my bedroom but also operated the lift, which made certain only registered guests could use it. The key card also gave access from the lobby to the food court.
The style of the hotel is immediately apparent from the décor of the corridors. Paintings by a leading local artist hang on the walls, and the carpets are plush and soberly patterned. My bedroom was similarly furnished for cosy comfort. The wardrobe had doors of mirrors and on the wall, a flat-screen television hung in a distinctive, chunky wooden frame, painted red.

Myanmar's hard-line Buddhist monk Ashin Wirathu, known for his anti-Muslim stance, said on Sunday his movement will join hands with a like-minded Sri Lankan group to protect Buddhists.
Wirathu, leader of 969, a fundamentalist movement that started on the fringes of society but now boasts supporters nationwide in Myanmar, says his organisation will work hand in hand with Sri Lanka's Bodu Bala Sena, or Buddhist Power Force, accused of instigating violence against minority Muslims in the island nation.
He spoke to thousands of Sri Lankan monks and laity on Sunday in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.
Violence between Buddhists and the Rohingya Muslim community spread throughout Myanmar last year, fuelling deep-seeded prejudices against the Islamic minority and threatening Myanmar's fragile transition to democracy.

Kandyan is a classical dance form from Sri Lanka. The drums used in Kandyan dances are known as Bera in Sinhala. It is an ancient Sinhala custom to play ritual music while seeking the blessings from the guardian deities of the land. 50 dancers performed this piece.
Glimpses from the World Culture Festival (WCF), a celebration of the Art of Living’s 35th anniversary, that was held in New Delhi, India between March 11-13, 2016.
Hosted on the world’s largest floating stage of 7 acres, WCF brought together 3.75 million people from 155 countries. The 3-day event was marked by mesmerizing performances by 36,603 artists from around the globe and showcased cultural diversity like never-seen-before. An estimated 1.8 billion people watched the live telecast of the event from 767,463 locations across 188 countries.

About Angam the movie:
Angam is a documentary film, exploring an ancient traditional Sri Lankan martial art called Angam which is also known as Angampora in the popular culture.
The film will take you through an untold story of the origin of Angam, along with the evolution of Sri Lankans through traditional folk stories of locals and scientific findings of archeologists. It will also give you an overview of how Angam has survived up till today and what will be its' future.
The film unravels around one family who practices and teaches Angam, headed by Guru Karunapala. Students of Guru have spread this unique martial art form in to far corners of the world, ensuring its' presence in the international arena.
Renowned archeologist & former head of Archeology Department of Sri Lanka, Dr. Siran Deraniyagala, is also featured in this film, contributing valuable scientific findings on the origin of Sri Lankans.
Angam documentary film was produced under very tight or no financial backup and with very limited technical resources. These factors resulted limitations in the scope of the film makers' attempt. The entire project was filmed by an HD Panasonic camcorder and edited on home PC's and Laptops. It was the film teams' high enthusiasm, the never-say-die attitude and every form of encouragement of our friends which enabled the near-impossible to be a reality and end up with an documentary film of this scale.
