Salzburg Cathedral Austria.
Salzburg Cathedral (Salzburger Dom) is the seventeenth-century Baroque cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Salzburg in the city of Salzburg, Austria, dedicated to Saint Rupert and Saint Vergilius. Saint Rupert founded the church in 774 on the remnants of a Roman town, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1181 after a fire. In the seventeenth century, the cathedral was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style under Prince-Bishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau to its present appearance. Salzburg Cathedral still contains the baptismal font in which composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized.
Saint Vergilius of Salzburg constructed the first cathedral possibly using the foundations of St. Rupert. The first Dom was recorded in 774. The so-called Virgil Dom was built from 767 to 774 and was 66 metres long and 33 metres wide.
Archbishop Arno (785 – 821) arranged the first renovations of the Dom, less than 70 years after its completion. In 842, the building burned after a lightning strike. Three years later, work began to rebuild the structure.
Under Archbishop Hartwig, the sanctuary expanded to the west with addition of a choir and crypt between 1000 and 1080. Archbishop Konrad I added the west towers from 1106 to 1147.
This original church, thus experienced at least three extensive building and rebuilding campaigns during the early Middle Ages, the final result of which was a somewhat ad hoc Romanesque basilica. In 1598, the basilica was severely damaged, and after several failed attempts at restoration and reconstruction, Prince-Bishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau (Archbishop from 1587–1612) finally ordered it demolished. Wolf Dietrich was a patron and supporter of modern Italian Baroque architecture, having seen it from its origins in Italy and particularly Rome. Indeed, it was Wolf Dietrich who was also responsible for the building of the nearby Alten Residenz, which is today connected to the cathedral.
Wolf Dietrich hired the Italian architect Vincenzo Scamozzi to prepare a plan for a comprehensive new Baroque building. Construction did not begin however until Wolf Dietrich's successor, Markus Sittich von Hohenems (Archbishop from 1612–19), in 1614 laid the cornerstone of the new cathedral. Santino Solari designed the current cathedral by dramatically altering the original Scamozzi plan. The new sanctuary was completed 1628, less than 15 years after construction began. At its consecration on September 24, 1628, 12 choirs positioned in the marble galleries of the cathedral sang a Te Deum (the score of which is since lost) composed by Stefano Bernardi, the Kapellmeister to the Salzburg court. The present Salzburg Cathedral is built partially upon the foundations of the old basilica. Indeed, the foundation stones of the preceding church building may be seen in the Domgrabungen, an excavation site under the cathedral that also features mosaics and other artifacts found when this location was the forum of the Roman city Juvavum. One other surviving relic that predates the baroque edifice is the 14th Century Gothic baptismal font. The relics of Saint Rupert were transferred here when the cathedral was completed.
The finished church is 142 meters long and 33 meters high at the crossing/dome. The baroque style of St. Rupert's can be seen in the choir and the nave.
The Salzburg Cathedral was damaged in 1944 during World War II when a single bomb crashed through the central dome over the crossing. Repairs were somewhat slow to take place, but restoration was complete by 1959.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized here on January 28, 1756, the day after his birth.

Just one piece from a concert at the Salzburg Cathedral in Austria. I only had time to listen to one selection.
Salzburg (Ö) Die Glocken des Domes heiliger Rupert und Virgil
Am Rupertitag des Jahres 1961 wurden die fünf neuen Glocken für das Salzburger Domgeläut geweiht. Seither bilden diese zusammen mit den beiden historischen Glocken das siebenstimmige Großgeläut Es°-Ges°-B°-des'-es'-ges'-as' das zu den größten und schönsten Geläuten Mitteleuropas gezählt werden muss.
Nach dem Wiederaufbau des Domes bis in das Jahr 1959 sollte folgend das Domgeläut wieder auf sieben Glocken aufgestockt werden. Zwei der noch vorhandenen historischen Glocken der Gießerfamilie Neidhardt [3+5] sollten in das neue Geläut eingegliedert werden. Eine weitere historische Glocke wurde abgegeben.
So goss die ortsansässige Glockengießerei Oberascher im Frühsommer des Jahres 1961 fünf Glocken [1+2+4+6+7] in einer eigens hierfür konstruierten, überschweren Rippe. Diese Glocken gelten heute als absolute Meisterwerke der modernen Glockengießkunst. Die mächtige Salvatorglocke [7] ist mit 14.256kg zudem die zweitgrößte Glocke Österreichs und eine der größten im deutschen Sprachraum.
Gestützt auf ebenjene Salvatorglocke erhebt dieses Monumentalgeläut an den hohen kirchlichen Feiertagen seine mächtige Stimme. Es ist dabei nicht nur aufgrund der Tontiefe, sondern auch wegen dem überwältigenden Klangvolumen ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis für jeden Zuhörer.
Im Jahre 2014 wurde die Glockenanlage des Domes umfassend überarbeitet. Neben neuen Motoren und Steuerungen für alle Südturmglocken erhielt der Rupert [6] eine zweite Läutemaschine und wird seither auch merklich höher geläutet.

Der heutige Dom wurde von 1614 bis 1628 errichtet. Vorbild stand die Kirche Il Gesu in Rom. Das gewaltige Bauwerk gilt als das erste barocke Bauwerk nördlich der Alpen und stand mit seiner mächtigen Doppelturmfassade Vorbild für folgende Bauwerke, besonders im süddeutschen Sprachraum. Nach Kriegsschäden im zweiten Weltkrieg konnte der Dom im Jahre 1959 wieder eröffnet werden.

From Hochkoenig to Steinernes Meer, Salzburg - Austria HD Travel Channel
The Hochköng (High King Mountain) is the highest mountain in the Austrian state of Salzburg. For our trip we take the country roads to the municipality of Dienten at the foot of the Hochköng. The church is a famous postcard motif. Past the villages of Hinterthal and Maria Alm which is known for it's the high and pointed steeple, we reach Saalfelden.
Saalfelden is located at the foot of the Steinerne Meer on the edge of a far large basin which extends to Kaprun and encompasses the ski areas of Leogang and Zell at the lake. The town of Saalfelden is as well the starting point of the ski area Saalbach-Hinterklemm which is as well connected to Leogang. These ski areas are part of the High King Mountain Ski Area which spans 8 mountains.
The area was already settled in the Bronze Age. Today Saalfelden is primarily a college town.
A particularity of Saalfelden is the hermitage which nestles against the rock. It is the only hermitage of Austria and can be reached by a 20 minute walk.

Der Hochkönig ist der höchste Berg im Salzburgerland. Über Landstraßen fahren wir nach Dienten am Fuße des Hochkönigs. Die Kirche ist ein beliebtes Postkartenmotiv.
Über Hinterthal und Maria Alm, bekannt ob des hohen und spitzen Kirchturms, erreichen wir Saalfelden.
Saalfelden liegt am Fuß des markanten Steinernen Meeres, am Rand eines weit ausladenden Beckens, das sich bis Kaprun erstreckt und die Skiregionen von Leogang und Zell am See umfasst. Außerdem ist der Ort Ausgangspunkt der mit Leogang verbundenen Skiregion Saalbach – Hinterklemm.
Das Gebiet war bereits in der Bronzezeit besiedelt. Heute ist Saalfelden vor allem eine Schulstadt.
Eine Besonderheit in Saalfelden ist Österreichs einzige Einsiedelei. Nach einem Spaziergang von etwa 20 Minuten ist die eng an den Felsen geduckte Klause zu erreichen.

Der Salzburger Dom ist die Kathedrale der römisch-katholischen Erzdiözese Salzburg und damit Metropolitankirche der Kirchenprovinz Salzburg; sie ist den Heiligen Rupert und Virgil geweiht.Der Barockbau hat eine Länge von 101 Meter, das Querschiff misst 69 Meter. Die Turmhöhe beträgt 81 Meter, die Kuppelhöhe 79 Meter und die Höhe des Hauptschiffs 32 Meter. Der Dom verfügt über 900 Sitzplätze. Er steht unter Denkmalschutz und gehört zum UNESCO-Welterbe Historisches Zentrum der Stadt SalzburgDer erste romanische Dom war eine dreischiffige Basilika mit vorgelagertem Paradies und eigenem Baptisterium und wurde 774 vollendet. Abtbischof Virgil weihte den Sakralbau am 25. September 774 ein. In der Nacht von 4. zum 5. April 1167 brannte der Dom ab. Angeblich ließen damals die Grafen von Plain im Auftrag Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossas die Stadt anzünden, weil der Salzburger Erzbischof Konrad II. von Babenberg den vom Kaiser ernannten Gegenpapst Viktor IV. nicht anerkannte (siehe auch Schisma von 1159). Darauf wurde unter Bischof Konrad III. der noch stattlichere fünfschiffige (bzw. dreischiffige mit seitlichen Kapellenreihen) Konradinische Dom errichtet, die damals größte Basilika nördlich der Alpen. (Das heutige Taufbecken stammt noch aus diesem Bauwerk.)
Nach dem Brand des romanischen Doms 1598 ließ Erzbischof Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau den schwer beschädigten alten Dom gemeinsam mit 55 Bürgerhäusern niederreißen. Die 55 Bürgerhäuser dienten der Errichtung des heutigen Residenzplatzes, dem nordseitigen Vorplatz des Domes, der ursprünglich aber auf diesen Platz hin ausgerichtet werden sollte. Die frühen Planungen wurden vor allem von Vincenzo Scamozzi durchgeführt. Wolf Dietrichs Nachfolger Markus Sittikus Graf von Hohenems engagierte als Baumeister dann aber Santino Solari, der die früheren Pläne deutlich verkleinerte. 1614 fand die Grundsteinlegung dieses Neubaus statt. Am 25. September 1628 wurde der Dom von Fürsterzbischof Paris von Lodron konsekriert, dabei erklangen u.a. auch die zwei neuen Vierungs-Orgeln, die Hoforgelmacher Leopold Rotenburger geschaffen hatte. Das achttägige Domweihefest war das vermutlich größte historische Fest, das die Stadt Salzburg je feierte.
Im Oktober 1682 wurde im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 1100-jährigen Bestehen des Erzstifts Salzburg die 53-stimmige Missa Salisburgensis vermutlich erstmals aufgeführt.
Am 16. Oktober 1944, beim ersten Luftangriff auf Salzburg, stürzte die Domkuppel ein.[1] Von 1945 bis 1959 wurde der Dom saniert und die Kuppel rekonstruiert. An die „Bombardierung“ des Domes erinnert z.B. die sog. „Bombenmesse“, komponiert von Domkapellmeister Joseph Messner.

After the fire of the Romanesque cathedral in 1598 Archbishop Wolf Dietrich of Raitenau had the badly damaged old cathedral demolished together with 55 citizens' houses. The 55 burgher houses were used to erect the present residence, the north-facing forecourt of the cathedral, which was originally intended to be placed on this square. The early plans were mainly carried out by Vincenzo Scamozzi. Wolf Dietrich's successor, Markus Sittikus Count von Hohenems, however, later engaged Santino Solari as a master builder who significantly reduced his earlier plans. In 1614 the foundations of this new building took place. On September 25, 1628, the cathedral of Lodster Bishop of Lodron was consecrated. Also the two new four-organs, the Hoforgelmacher Leopold Rotenburger had created. The eight-day Domweihefest was probably the largest historical festival ever celebrated by the city of Salzburg.

Excellent for beginners to progress, with guidance, as their 2nd or 3rd song but ONLY after many foundational lessons like easy learning G1 RiverS of Babylon using E A B7 only.

In my other C3 demo video, I also introduced barring chord G... etc from basic to advance learning. Etc for the ending finale. Once they have learned and can perform the bar chord G at the closing finale and after feeling many different guitars and already know which type of guitar that they have tried out is likely most suitable, ....yes, the trainees ready, can figure out the purposes and where the guitar will be used, with guidance. This above group of 3pax are beginners, since 16sept17. Learning with 30 seconds of instruction, their 3rd song. There was no prior practise together. Today is Lesson 1 or L1 of C3 Silent Night being video taped, with just prior 30 seconds of instruction and warm-up ... because it's Christmas festives and we cannot wait for another month, thus , literally speaking, we are just shoot off the hip and strumming away ie on the count of 31.
Lesson started with Supercopy cat EW ( some unguided past experience guitaring) following fast. TK took awhile to figure out and Lin, who just walked in to class, caught on occasionally.
TK and EW - my 2 most resilient n progressive beginner guitarists from my accidentally started guitaring for beginners class on 16sept17 and both had left on one-way tickets for Myanmar in DEC 2017, just about 2 months into our irregular lessons. Friends forever. My best wish and prayers ...goes with them.
EW will be preparing for their own marriage Myanmar provinces from end Y2018, from my last known info

During C3 lesson 1, EW was listening and observing how I played a song, how and when I switched chords, incl synchronizing my sway etc by observation ( like how she learnt in the past prior to classes, unguided then ).
For TK its her 1st guitarings, the very progressive, persevering and persistant learner, overcoming the hush reality of left finger tips pain with enthusiasm. TK was just trying to catch the rythym and stroke and initially there was no sound from her guitar…just some motions. She caught on fast.
Manicured long left hand finger nails and the smooth surfaced guitaring picks are also barriers to progress.

This Christmas song was played by the a school choir and orchestra of 70 pupils which came from the netherlands. The performance took place right in front of the Salzburg Cathedral (Salzburger Dom) in the city center of Salzburg - the town of Mozart in Austria.
Thanks for this joyful song to the young man on the left who conducted the musical piece which he wrote himself.

Does anyone know what the name of the conductor is? And does anyone know the name of the school from the netherlands who did the performance in Salzburg on December 6, 2017?
