Recording choir of St Mary's Cathedral Edinburgh Scotland
This video is an introduction to the choristers at St Mary's Music School and the choir of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland. We see the young choristers and organists as they prepare in June, 2006, for recording sessions for the Pro Organo CD Hear My Words, Ye People.
The Choir of St Mary's Cathedral (Mother Church of the Diocese of Edinburgh in the Scottish Episcopal Church) has been described by the Sunday Times as one of the UK's finest cathedral choirs. It is unique in Scotland in maintaining a tradition of daily Anglican choral services. The choristers are educated at St Mary's Music School, Scotland's only specialist music school, which is also the choir school for the cathedral. St Mary's Cathedral became the first in the UK to offer girls scholarships to sing as trebles in 1978, and in 2006, became possibly the first British daily choral foundation to offer alto Choral Scholarships and Lay Clerk positions to women as well as men. St Mary's Cathedral website is: cathedral.net . St Mary's Music School website is: st-marys-music-school.co.uk
The choir is led in this video by Simon Nieminski nieminski.com , who at the time this video and CD were recorded, was Organist and Master of the Music. Mr Nieminski is still active in Edinburgh, but now concentrates upon his work as both a liturgical and concert organist. His new post is that of organist at St Mary's RC Cathedral in Edinburgh.
Also seen in this video is a principal of St Mary's Music School, and Judy Brown, an adult alto in the choir. Organists seen in the video are Organ Scholar Ruaraidh Sutherland and Assistant Organist Duncan Ferguson.
Music heard in the video: At the choir rehearsal, and also the organist's rehearsal, we hear excerpts from the extended anthem entitled Hear My Words, Ye People by Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry. In the recording session video in the Cathedral, the choir sings O for a closer walk with God by Sir Charles Villiers Stanford. The Stanford anthem can be downloaded as a high-quality MP3 file for only US$1.00 by finding it in the Choral section of the download site: mypipes.org
The organ of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, seen and heard in this video is a 1870s vintage Father Henry Willis organ, which has been maintained and well cared for over many decades by Harrison & Harrison. Harrison and Harrison's website is: harrison-organs.co.uk
The Pro Organo CD Hear My Words, Ye People CD 7208, is available from zarex.com/bin and at proorgano.com , as well as from many other retailers in the USA, UK and Europe, including arkivmusic.com .

St John's Episcopal Church urbex
This is St John's Episcopal Church in Edinburgh. background information taken from wikipedea

It was dedicated as St John's Chapel on Maundy Thursday 1818 with construction having begun in 1816. It was designed by the architect William Burn[2] the previous year, at the remarkable age of only 25.
The congregation had begun in 1792 when Daniel Sandford came to Edinburgh to minister on Church of England lines. In 1797 the Qualified congregation moved to Charlotte Chapel which was re-built on larger lines in 1811. They sold shares to fund a new church, the banker Sir William Forbes being the main figure, while Charlotte Chapel was sold to Baptists.
Edward Bannerman Ramsay went to St John's as curate in 1827. He succeeded Bishop Sandford as minister in 1830, and stayed till his death in 1872, being dean from 1846.
The sanctuary and chancel were built in 1879-82 by John Dick Peddie and Norman Boyd Kinnear. The vestry and Hall in 1915 to 1916 by John Dick Peddie and Forbes Smith.
St John's holds daily services and is unique in that it is the last church in Scotland to hold the weekly service of Matins.
St. George's Edinburgh - Hymn - Dominion Organ
New Restoration! visit: for details.
This reed organ (also known as pump organ), was made by the Dominion Organ Company in Bowmanville Ontario Canada It was originally purchased in 1881 by the Presbyterian church in Ridgetown, Ontario, who used it for 18 years. Around 1899, the organ was then sold to the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Mooretown for $100. It was used to lead the music at the church for the next 50 years in Mooretown, but by the 1950s the organ became too difficult to pump.
In February of 1964, the organ was placed on loan to the Oil Springs Museum. In 1975, the organ was brought back to Mooretown and has been at the Moore Museum ever since. While the organ has been at the museum, there have been various attempts to get it to sound again, but it still could not get the wind needed to display the organ at its full potential.
Prior to this video, the final touches of a major restoration were just completed, which had taken place from October 2015 to January 2015.
The music played is from the Presbyterian hymnal, The Book of Praise, published in 1918. The Psalms at the front of the hymnal are basically the same Psalms that would have been sung at the church when it was first installed in 1881. The tune is St. George's Edinburgh, composed by Andrew Mitchell Thomson (1778-1831).

Queen Elizabeth and her 96-year-old husband braved the cold on a chilly Sunday morning to be greeted by a 200-strong crowd gathered outside St Peter and St Paul Church at West Newton on the Sandringham Estate.
The 91-year-old monarch looked radiant in a deep red winter coat and matching dress and feathered hat - and even stopped to speak to crowds who had made the journey to see them.
