കേരള ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ തങ്കശേരിക്ക് ഉന്നതമായ സ്ഥാനമാണുള്ളത്. കൊല്ലം നഗരത്തില്‍ നിന്നും നാല് കിലോമീറ്റര്‍ അകലെയാണ് ഈ പ്രദേശം. പല കൗതുകങ്ങളും നിറഞ്ഞതാണ് തങ്കശേരിയുടെ ചരിത്രം.....
1503 ൽ കൊല്ലവുമായി കച്ചവടം നടത്തുവാനുള്ള കൊല്ലം റാണിയുടെ അഭ്യർത്ഥനയോട് കൂടിയാണ് പോർട്ടുഗീസുകാർ കൊല്ലത്ത് എത്തുന്നത്.അങ്ങനെ പോർട്ടുഗീസുകാർ കൊല്ലവുമായുള്ള വ്യാപാരം തുടങ്ങുകയും... കുറെ വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷം പോർട്ടുഗീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ ഇവിടെ എത്തുകയും തങ്കശ്ശേരിയിലെ പണ്ടകശ്ശാല പുതുക്കി പണിയുവാനുള്ള അനുവാദം നേടിയെടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. പക്ഷേ ഇതിന്റെ മറവിൽ അവർ ഒരു കോട്ടതന്നെ നിർമ്മിക്കുകയാണ് ചെയ്തത്...അങ്ങനെ 1518 -ൽ പോർട്ടുഗീസുകാർ തങ്കശ്ശേരിയിൽ കോട്ട നിർമ്മിച്ചു... സെന്റ് തോമസ് കോട്ട എന്നാണ് ഈ കോട്ടയുടെ ശരിക്കുമുള്ള പേര്, പിന്നീട് തങ്കശ്ശേരി കോട്ടയായി അറിയപ്പെടുകയായിരുന്നു... അങ്ങനെ
1659 ഡിസംബർ 29 ന് ഡച്ചുകാർ കൊല്ലത്ത് എത്തുകയും തങ്കശ്ശേരി കോട്ട പിടിച്ചടക്കുകയും തകർത്ത് തരിപ്പണമാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1669 ൽ ഡച്ചുകാർ തങ്കശ്ശേരികോട്ട പുനർ നിർമിച്ചു. 1741 ൽ മാർത്താണ്ഡവർമ്മ കുളച്ചൽ യുദ്ധത്തിൽ പരാജയപ്പെടുത്തിയതോടെ ഡച്ചുകാർ ഇവിടെനിന്നും പിന്മാറുകയും 1742 ൽ തങ്കശ്ശേരി കോട്ട, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്
ഈസ്റ്റിന്ത്യാകമ്പനിയുടെ ആധിപത്യത്തിലാവുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ഡച്ച് കോട്ടയുടെ ഇടിഞ്ഞു വീഴാറായ ചുമരുകൾ മാത്രമാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ അവശേഷിക്കുന്നത്. ഇപ്പോഴിത് കേന്ദ്ര പുരാവസ്തുവകുപ്പിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാണ്.... ചരിത്രപരമായി വളരെയധികം പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ഈ കോട്ട ഒരിക്കലെങ്കിലും നിങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശിച്ചിരിക്കണം ...

#KOLLAMTHANGASERYPORT| THE STORY OF BRITISH
In 1502, the Portuguese were the first Europeans to establish a trading centre in Tangasseri and the area soon became a major centre for the pepper trade. Tangasseri's St Thomas Fort, built by the Portuguese in 1517, was destroyed in the subsequent wars with the Dutch.
In 1661, the Dutch took possession of the city. The remains of both the Dutch and Portuguese forts can still be seen in Tangasseri. In the 18th century, the kingdom of Travancore first conquered Kollam, followed by the British in 1795. Tangasseri remains an Anglo-Indian settlement in character, though there are few Anglo-Indians in the population. The Infant Jesus Cathedral in Tangasseri an old Portuguese-built church, remains as a memento of Portuguese rule. The old cathedral was demolished and replaced by a new cathedral at a cost of around ₹4.5 crore. it was consecrated and blessed on 3 December 2005. The metallic cross on the top is one of the largest crosses in India.

St. Thomas, the Apostle, arrived in 52 AD at Kodungallur with Jewish merchants for the propagation of Christ’s message and through the sea route reached Palayoor in 52 AD and built the Church here. Palayoor also had an ancient Jewish settlement known as the Jews' Hill. Palayoor was connected from the first century onwards even up to this day to other ancient trade centres of Kerala, especially Muziris, by rivers and backwaters.

St. Thomas Fort also known as Tangaserri Fort is a ruined fort located in the beach town of Tangaserri on the shores of the Arabian Sea in Kollam city (Coulão), Kerala, India. It is located around 5 km from the city center and 71 km from Thiruvanthapuram (the state capital).
Neendakara port is the major hub of fishing activities in Kerala on the shores of the Arabian Sea. The first Coastal Police station in India was started in Neendakara for monitoring coastal activities through the sea.
Neendakara is a village in Kollam district 9 km north of Kollam city in Kerala, India. It is Kollam district's intermediate fishing port. Neendakara is 30 km north of Paravur.
When Portuguese traders settled in Kollam (then Quilon) in the early 16th century, their ships passed through the Neenadakara bar, now the site of Neendakara Bridge, part of National Highway 47, which connects the village to Sakthikulangara across Ashtamudi Lake. In Malayalam, Neendakara means a long bank.
The headquarters of the Indo-Norwegian Fisheries Community project, established in 1953, was based in Neendakara until 1961, when the site was handed over to the Government of Kerala.

Basilica of the National Shrine of St.Thomas is in Chennai, India. Most Indian Catholics, why, even most Catholics in South India, or even in Chennai, seem to be unaware of the importance of this extraordinary shrine.
San Thome Basilica is a Roman Catholic (Latin Rite) minor basilica in Santhome, in the city of Chennai (Madras), India. It was built in the 16th century by Portuguese explorers, over the supposed tomb of St Thomas, an apostle of Jesus. The tomb was built on by destroying the original Kapaleeshwarar Temple by the Portuguese. In 1893, it was rebuilt as a church with the status of a cathedral by the British. The British version still stands today. It was designed in Neo-Gothic style, favoured by British architects in the late 19th century.

#Tangasseri was associated with the Chinese trade from the first millennium AD and later #colonised by the Portuguese, #Dutch and the British to become the gold village. According to Historians, Captain Rodriguez came to Quilon and was appointed as the captain of the factory and trade, with permission from the queen. St.Thomas Fort (once known as Forte de São Tomé) was built by the Portuguese under Afonso de Albuquerque for the protection of the newly developed trade. In 1505 the Portuguese established a trading port here, and in 1518 established its sovereignty through the construction of Fort St. Thomas. Later in 1661 the town and the fort were handed over to the Dutch who made it the capital of Dutch Malabar. The Dutch occupied the fort for several years. In 1795, the British East India Company took possession of the fort. In 1823 Fort St. Thomas accepted a lease by #Travancore from the British Government for a period of twenty years.[2][3]

സെൻറ്. തോമസ് കോട്ട 20 അടി (6.1 മീറ്റർ) ഉയരത്തിൽ. ഇന്ന് തങ്കശ്ശേരി കോട്ട എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കോട്ടയുടെ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾ ബീച്ചിനോട് നേരിട്ട് നിൽക്കുന്നു. ഭാരതസർക്കാർ ഈ കോട്ട പിടിച്ചടക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇത് ഒരു ചരിത്രപരമായ മൈതാനമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കോട്ടയുടെ പുനരുദ്ധാരണം തുടരുന്നു. നിലവിൽ ആർക്കിയോളജിക്കൽ സർവ്വേ ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയാണ് ഈ കോട്ട പരിപാലിക്കുന്നത്
