The Porta Nigra (Latin for black gate) is a large Roman city gate in Trier, Germany, and the backdrop for a memorable visit with Helen Patton, granddaughter of Gen, George S. Patton, Jr.
Helen chats with WWII veterans, Harry Cruse and Bill Umstot. Harry Cruse is a WWII veteran from the 83rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion and Bill Umstot is a WWII veteran who served as an MP with the Provost Marshal for Gen. Patton's Third Army.

Die Domkirche St. Peter in Trier ist die älteste Bischofskirche Deutschlands. Weiterhin ist sie die Mutterkirche des vom Bistum Trier. Mit einer Länge von über 100 Metern und einer Breite von über 40 Metern istdies das bedeutenste Bauwerk abendländischer Baukunst und das größte Kirchengebäude der Stadt Trier.

Die Kirche besitzt ein 10 Stimmiges Bronzegeläut welches 1951 von der Glockengießerei Otto in Hemelingen erschaffen wurde.

Das berühmteste Gotteshaus in Trier ist die hohe Domkirche. Diese beherbergt den berühmten “heiligen Rock“ und besitzt im Südturm ein 10stimmiges, sehr wohl und kräftig klingendes Bronzegeläut von Friedrich Otto in Bremen-Hemelingen

Die Aufnahme entstand am 30. April 2018 zum 18 Uhr zum Einläuten des Domkirchweihfestes am 1. Mai.
Zuerst ertönt der interessante Uhrschlag, dann die 3 mal 3 Angelusschläge und dann anschließend das Plenum aller 10 Glocken. Es war ein atemberaubendes Erlebnis! :-)
Mit von der Partie war das Glockenteam aus NRW: Bells of Germany. Es war schön, euch mal persönlich kennenzulernen. Respekt, dass ihr soviel Zugfahrt für Trier auf euch genommen habt! :-)

Leider ist die Aufnahme aufgrund von ziemlich starkem Wind teilweise etwas “verschwommen“ und wegen eines Autos, welches meinte, 5 min sich mit laufendem Motor vor mein Gerät zu stellen, nicht gerade perfekt geworden. Ich bitte dies zu entschuldigen. :/
Germany vlog - Day 7 - Another boring vlog!!! (cuz I can't vlog)
So nothing really interesting happened that day, but you still get the vlog! We visited some place and did some shopping and we went for a walk, that's it! It was very hot the first days so we had to leav alll the visiting to the end if we wanted to survive!

Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. is buried at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial in Hamm, Luxembourg alongside other wartime casualties of the Third Army, per his request to be buried with my men.

Visit to Hill 314, Mortain Battlefield, plus a chance encounter with Frank Denius, one of the heroes of Old Hickory and The Lost Battalion. Frank Denius survived the onslaught at Hill 314, after his battalion was cut-off and surrounded by German Panzer Divisions, for more than 6 days. Trained as a Forward Observer, he called artillery fire that helped keep the men on Hill 314 alive and eventually turned back the German offensive. Although the Germans gave his battalion an ultimatum, to surrender or be annihilated...he recalls; we had no thoughts of surrender. Frank was wounded twice and received 4 Silver Stars.

Trier (German pronunciation: [tʁiːɐ̯] (listen); Luxembourgish: Tréier [ˈtʀɜɪ̯ɐ]), formerly known in English as Treves (French: Trèves, IPA: [tʁɛv]) and Triers (see also names in other languages), is a city in Germany on the banks of the Moselle. Trier lies in a valley between low vine-covered hills of red sandstone in the west of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, near the border with Luxembourg and within the important Moselle wine region. The German philosopher and one of the founders of Marxism, Karl Marx was born in the city in 1818.
Founded by the Celts in the late-4th century BC as Treuorum, it was later conquered by the Romans in the late-1st century BC and renamed Trevorum or Augusta Treverorum (Latin for The City of Augustus among the Treveri). Trier may be the oldest city in Germany. It is also the oldest seat of a bishop north of the Alps. In the Middle Ages, the Archbishop-Elector of Trier was an important prince of the church, as the archbishop-electorate controlled land from the French border to the Rhine. The Archbishop-Elector also had great significance as one of the seven electors of the Holy Roman Empire.
With an approximate population of 105,000, Trier is the fourth-largest city in its state, after Mainz, Ludwigshafen, and Koblenz. The nearest major cities are Luxembourg (50 km or 31 mi to the southwest), Saarbrücken (80 kilometres or 50 miles southeast), and Koblenz (100 km or 62 mi northeast).
The University of Trier, the administration of the Trier-Saarburg district and the seat of the ADD (Aufsichts- und Dienstleistungsdirektion), which until 1999 was the borough authority of Trier, and the Academy of European Law (ERA) are all based in Trier. It is one of the five central places of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. Along with Luxembourg, Metz and Saarbrücken, fellow constituent members of the QuattroPole union of cities, it is central to the greater region encompassing Saar-Lor-Lux (Saarland, Lorraine and Luxembourg), Rhineland-Palatinate, and Wallonia.

Kevin Hymel discusses the assault on Pointe du Hoc by the 2nd Ranger Battalion 'Dog Company'. Without any safety equipment and carrying over 30 pounds of gear, the Rangers scaled the daunting cliffs of Pointe du Hoc to overtake the heavily fortified German positions during D-Day.

Das DigiEnsemble Berlin spielte mit Smartphones und Tablets ein umfangreiches Musikprogramm im Rahmen des sonntäglichen Gottesdienstes am 3. Advent 2012 im Berliner Dom.
Mit Musik-Apps spielten sie vor 600 Gästen Händels Konzert-Arie „Ombra Mai Fu aus der Oper Xerxes, gesungen von der bezaubernden Sopranistin Anna Gütter. Außerdem wurde es eine experimentelle Raumklang-Collage nach einem Konzept von Sven Ratzel gespielt, die den Choral „Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland und seinen altkirchlichen Vorgänger, den Hymnus „Veni redemptor gentium des Ambrosius von Mailand (339--397) zur Basis nimmt. Ein weiterer Höhepunkt ist die Premiere unserer Interpretation der anspruchsvollen Bass-Arie „Großer Herr und starker König aus J.S. Bachs berühmtem Weihnachtsoratorium. Für den Gesangspart konnte der bekannte Bariton Roman Trekel gewonnen werden.

Adolescents face enormous pressure to make life-defining decisions every day and they want to lock in their identities sooner than later. All of this pressure is exacerbated by physical and social changes. Franky (Josh Wiggins), the hero of Keith Behrman’s exquisite and generous Giant Little Ones, is under more pressure than most. His life was altered when his father (Kyle MacLachlan) left his mother (Maria Bello) for a man. Franky is left confused and angry toward his father for breaking up the family. Things are further confused for Franky when his wild birthday party ends in a sexual encounter no one could have imagined, including his best friend and girlfriend. As Franky’s world crumbles, he and his friends are forced to decide what kind of people they want to be.
A sensitive and touching look at that point in adolescence when freedom is both intoxicating and terrifying (and feelings are both elegiac and erotic), Giant Little Ones recalls the best scenes in Stéphane Lafleur’s Tu dors Nicole or Joachim Trier’s Oslo, August 31st. The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France is located on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 and the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II. The cemetery covers 172.5 acres and contains the graves of 9,387 of our military dead, most of whom lost their lives in the D-Day landings and ensuing operations.
