Viscount Hybrid Organ with Physis® Technology
The incomparable Jeremy Filsell provided an unforgettable, world-class opening concert on the Viscount's largest hybrid organ in North America, recently installed at the St. John's Church in Portsmouth, VA. (U.S.A)
St. John's new state-of-the-art Viscount organ console employs the company’s internationally patented Physis® (physical modeling) Technology. Physis® models the sound by measuring an organ’s natural and physical attributes, as well as its interaction with its environment—then Physis® rebuilds that sound in real time through processing computer code at unprecedented speeds, not
storing samples like in older obsolete technologies. Physis® rebuilds all the details through complex algorithms, down to the smallest imperfections—those elements that give the original instrument its character and warmth. Physis® creates its sound so that it is ever changing, like the original organ model, and it can be adjusted to accommodate the desires of the most demanding organist or acoustically deprived environment.
Viscount has succeeded in reproducing sound waves just as they would emanate from a windblown pipe organ—each with its own autonomy, individuality and unique characteristics. Viscount’s Physis® produces a reproduction of each note’s sound wave just as it sounded in the original organ. Since there are no “breaks” or “split-points,” the progression of sound across the keyboard is accurate, smooth and natural. The shapes of Physis® sound waves are open, making it possible to edit, modify and extend their structure. They produce a tri-dimensional sound. Physis® speaks not with just “Left-to-Right” motion (as is currently done with older technologies) but with “Front-to-Back” and “Up and Down” motion like real windblown pipes. St. John's Exsúltet Organ has a library of over 1000 organ voices available, and, as the technology improves, it can accept new voices and software updates in as little a few minutes, without the need for the dealer to be present.
USA: New York Christian community removes Robert E. Lee plaque
Leaders of the New York Christian Episcopal community removed a plaque commemorating General Robert E. Lee outside St John's Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. New York City, Wednesday.
The decision comes after a white nationalist protest against the removal of a statue of Lee turned violent in Charlottesville, on the weekend. White nationalist demonstrator James Alex Fields Jr drove a car into counter-protesters, on Saturday, killing one person and injuring 19 more.
The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island agreed to remove the plaque in light of the violence in Virginia.

The Interim Eucharistic Sharing agreement marks an important move toward full communion. At the heart of the shared agreement, the two traditions recognize one another as members of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church; faithfully and rightly preaching and proclaiming the Gospel of Christ.
Under the leadership of Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori of the Episcopal Church and with the approval of Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, Bishop James Dorff of the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church and Bishop Marcus Matthews of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church, Washington National Cathedral formally embraces and honors the agreement at this service.
