100 years of crashing waves, brutal winter winds and constant use took its toll on the St. Joseph lighthouses.
We had to do something to stop the rages of time … and we did … together.
In 2015 we are going to return these national treasures to what they looked like in 1932.
It’ll mean closing North Pier for a few months …
… but when the work is done … how these lights will shine!
Of course, this preservation and restoration of our lights couldn’t have happened without the knowledge of
Michelle Smay and Smay Trombley Architecture who gave us an accurate analysis of the condition of the inner and outer lights …

Bob Judd and the Lighthouse Forever Committee who inspired people from all around the world to give …

the Berrien Community Foundation and City of St. Joseph staff who safeguard our funds so our lighthouses will be safer and more beautiful …

Or the commitment of
The City of St. Joseph to maintain our lights when they are restored …
But mostly it is possible because of the generous men and women who gave donations … large and small … to preserve and restore our lighthouses.
Yes, we’re close to reaching our 2 million dollar goal. But we’re not there yet. Our dream of bringing a replica foghorn to the lights and to letting people go inside the Inner lighthouse … for an unforgettable experience … won’t happen without more financial help.
Truth is, if everyone gave a donation who has walked the pier … made a memory here … or stood in silent awe as the sun paints the sky behind them … we’d make our goal in no time.

Let's Visit St. Joseph, MI
Located on the mouth of the St. Joseph River, St. Joseph is a beautiful city with a lot of great stores and restaurants. I get to check out an annual art festival, walk along the St. Joseph River while learning some history of the area, visit a replica of a classic carousel from when an amusement park used to rest along the shores of Lake Michigan, and then watch the kitesurfers ride the choppy waves of Lake Michigan.

St Joseph Guided Tours | Pure Michigan
Visitors can learn fascinating facts about this lakeside community's rich history and art culture each Friday through August 29. The guided, one-hour tours begin at 1 p.m. from the St. Joseph Today Welcome Center, 301 State St.
The Heritage Museum and Cultural Center and Krasl Art Center alternate tours each Friday, said Christina Arseneau, museum director for the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center. Plus, on August 29 both a history tour will be offered at 1 p.m. and an art tour at 2 p.m. It's a very walk-able community, so wear comfortable shoes and come learn more about St. Joseph's fascinating past and love of the arts.

Video of the flooding of the St. Joseph River in Southwest Michigan. Showing areas such as the Eagle Point community off of Niles road in St. Joseph, Berrien Hills Golf Club in Benton Harbor, Riverview Park in St. Joseph, and Carronde Park in Benton Harbor, MI. This is only part of the flooding, many areas were hit very hard, most of which did not have flood insurance. Please help those in need however we can!

Stunning Pictures of Michigan's St Joseph Lighthouse Transformed into Giant Icicles as Arctic
With sub-zero temperatures, severe wind chills and snowfall, millions across the eastern US have been desperately trying to stay warm this week.
But one photographer chose to brave the frigid weather for hours on end - to capture these stunning photos of St Joseph Lighthouse in Michigan.
Donning sturdy boots and warm clothing, Joshua Nowicki trekked along the icy shore of Lake Michigan on Thursday morning, armed with a camera.
He then captured a breathtaking array of photos of the frozen 30ft lighthouse and its pier, both of which were completely blanketed in white icicles.
He later uploaded the images to his Facebook page, alongside pictures of circular formations of ice - what he dubbed 'ice pancakes' - on the shore.
'Ice-covered lighthouse and 'ice pancakes' in St Joseph, Michigan,' wrote Mr Nowicki of his photographs, which were taken during a blizzard.
