Medjugorje and the End Times
Sister Anne shares her experiences regarding her first-ever Lenten 2019 pilgrimage to Medjugorje. Medjugorje is not yet officially approved, but it is officially recommended. Pope Francis has called attention to the spiritual benefits of visiting Medjugorje. “People go there and convert,” he said. “And this spiritual and pastoral fact can’t be ignored.” A special Vatican commission, chaired by Cardinal Camillo Ruini, examined the authenticity of the Marian apparitions for four years, and delivered a positive report in 2014. In 2018 Archbishop Henryk Hoser was sent to study and live indefinitely in Medjugorje as an official Papal Envoy.

Barcelona and Catalunya
The creative spirit of Spain's Catalunya — the land of Picasso, Gaudí, and Salvador Dalí — is on a roll. We'll get caught up in the festivity of Barcelona, enjoying the vibrant street scenes, tasty tapas, and pedestrian-friendly Gothic Quarter. Then we'll take a scenic side trip to mountaintop Montserrat, and finish with an artist's pilgrimage along the Costa Brava to Salvador Dalí country. In seaside Cadaques, we'll visit Dalí's home, and in nearby Figueres, we'll experience his playfully surreal mausoleum/museum.

Dayton Welcomes 2014 NCAA First Four Teams
The 2014 NCAA First Four teams arrive in Dayton, with a huge welcome from the Dayton Convention & Visitors' Bureau, host hotels, etc.
Nashville Welcomes March Madness - John Dunn
Fans from eight different universities are arriving in Music City, and many of them are already taking in the sights downtown. This is the third time that Nashville has hosted the men's NCAA tournament. Four games will be played inside the Bridgestone Arena Friday, and fans are getting out of their hotels and taking in the city of Nashville.Nashville's honky tonks will be more like sports bars this weekend. March Madness is back in Nashville.Being in the town and seeing all the different schools around is great and just being able to interact with everyone is great, says Florida State fan Laura Hilton.Fans are beginning to arrive from Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and beyond. The live music, the bars, the atmosphere, the whole city is great, says basketball fan Ed Sniadecki.Ed Sniadecki and his friends traveled from New York City. They're not rooting for a particular team, they're here for the fun, and Nashville's vibrant downtown. We just pick a different city and it doesn't matter who we're going to see, we just come for the city, says Snaidecki. Nashville's Convention and Visitors Bureau says the tournament is always a draw.It makes March. To be part of the National hysteria is great, says Butch Spyridon, President and CEO of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau.Spyridon believes the tournament could bring in about two million dollars in visitor spending. That's small in comparison to the 20 million dollars that comes from Nashville's Music City Bowl. Still, he believes it's well worth it.It's good theater, it's good sport, and it's good revenue, says Spyridon. The beer trucks are already supplying beverages for basketball and St. Patrick's day. Downtown business owners are eager to welcome fans.Everybody gets a little bit of the action and we're all excited to have all of these people in town, says business owner Brenda Sanderson.Lisa Vogel will be cheering for Cincinnati on Friday. She's hoping for a win, and helping the city's businesses at the same time.I know I'm spending lots of money, so I hope everyone else is coming to Nashville and spending money, and you guys have a huge economic impact from it, says Lisa Vogel.Teams like Florida State and Cincinnati should bring the most fans to Music City.If you ask downtown business owners, they'll tell you they were hoping for a team like Louisville or Kentucky, both of which bring a lot of fans. For news updates follow John Dunn on twitter @WZTVJohnDunn
2018 National PTA School of Excellence Hearst Winners
We are so happy to announce our first Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award of Merit is Boggess Elementary PTA in Texas! Through the National PTA School of Excellence program, Boggess PTA worked with their ESL staff to identify the languages utilized in the homes of students, and crafted communication through multiple channels while highlighting the translation services available from the school and district. Boggess PTA hopes to continue to explore ways to help non-English speaking parents and families feel comfortable and welcome at school. Congratulations Boggess Elementary PTA on your amazing accomplishments and recognition as our first Phoebe Apperson Hearst Family-School Partnership Award of Merit.
Our second Phoebe Apperson Hearst Family-School Partnership Award of Merit winner is Laurens Middle School PTA in South Carolina. As a newly-formed PTA, Laurens Middle School’s School of Excellence Committee created a parent resource center to foster a culture and climate that welcomes all families and provides them access to information about their child’s education. In the short time the center has been open, it has made a significant contribution to the atmosphere of Laurens Middle school by fostering better communication and outreach for parents and visitors. Congratulations Laurens Middle School PTA on your amazing accomplishments and recognition as our second Phoebe Apperson Hearst Family-School Partnership Award of Merit.
Finally, it is my great honor to announce the top 2018 School of Excellence, and Phoebe Apperson Hearst Outstanding Family-School Partnership Award winner, is Maple West Elementary PTA in New York. Here’s just a snapshot of the tremendous work this PTA exhibited to earn National PTAs highest honor.
Through the School of Excellence program, Maple West PTA chose to focus on how to make their PTA more inclusive to English Language Learner families. Maple West PTA collaborated with administrators, school staff and other experts to offer translation services, expand communication channels, and involve teachers to share information with families about upcoming PTA family events. The PTA also sponsored four representatives from their Executive Board to attend the New York State PTA conference so that they could advise their PTA members about statewide advocacy efforts around education and how they could become involved at the local level. The result was an overwhelming increase in family engagement of both ELL and non-ELL families at Maple West.
Congratulations Maple West Elementary PTA as the 2018 Phoebe Apperson Hearst Outstanding Award winner. You will receive a $2,000 grant for your school, national recognition and travel for two to our National PTA Convention in Ohio, courtesy of the Hearst Foundation. Thank you to the Hearst Foundation for your generous support of this award.
All 278 School of Excellence designees will receive a School of Excellence certificate and banner in the mail as well as a link to our digital Celebration Kit, which includes lots of goodies like social media graphics and a guide to hosting celebration events to help promote this amazing honor in your school and local community.
Once again, Congratulations to all of our Schools of Excellence and Hearst winners! We thank you for your leadership and commitment to building strong family-school partnerships. Enjoy celebrating this tremendous achievement!

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar's dad was a violent drunk, but not a criminal
Wednesday, 10 June 2015
U.S. Capitol Visitor Center
SVC 212-10
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar's dad was a violent drunk, but not a criminal, because alcohol Prohibition no longer criminalizes alcohol users and dealers.
If Sen. Klobuchar's dad's drug use was not decriminalized completely, he'd have been given a jail and/or prison sentence after being busted drunk driving on more than one occasion; he'd likely have lost his illustrious job as a member of the main scream media — which still supports drug Prohibition with it's cherry picked articles and agendas — been snared in the criminal injustice vortex and might not have been able to help guide and support his daughter on a path to becoming a U.S. Attorney and now a U.S. Senator.
Nonetheless, the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation vehemently opposes ending Prohibition for marijuana and other drugs, supports the continued criminalization of drugs and the perpetuation of the War on Drugs which is really simply a War on Poor and Black and Brown People — none of whom were represented in today's hearing. The wealthy and white in America are more likely to find a path to treatment and full recovery and economic success; not so much for others.
Sen Klobucher can likely attest that treatment with continued contact with his family, ensured her father's path to recovery. Putting him in jail and/or prison would not likely have had the same success.
...Wink wink, nudge nudge... The the Hazelden Betty Ford Institute for Recovery Advocacy and the Christie Foundation claim care about Preventing Opioid Deaths Among Young People, but if criminalization is a part of their recipe, then they really only care about people who look like today's panelists. They turn deaf and dumb and a blind eye to the deadly and violent drug turf wars in urban communities where members of the community they really only care about go to buy their drugs — then resell them in more genteel upper income circles.
They don't care about the destruction of entire lives and careers that results from using a devastating tool like criminalization to address drug abuse. Yet they know full well that treatment programs are far less expensive and more successful in addressing drug abuse in America and the money wasted in the criminal injustice vortex, teaming with wealthy attorneys and judges profiting of the carnage, would be better spent expanding treatment and recovery programs to all communities — not just the wealthy and white communities.
They also know that licensed regulated dealers don't corrupt their products like street dealers do. Regulations must be smart and efficient, but creating a larger black market for opioids won't solve the problems they purport to care about.
Mistaken Identities: How to Identify a Roman Emperor
On September 29, 2011, the well-renowned Classicist Mary Beard discussed the difficulties of identifying old roman sculptures and what she believes this process tells us about ancient cultures.
The lecture was put on by the Stanford University Department of Classics and was part of the Lorenz Eitner Lectures on Classical Art and Culture series. The Eitner lecture series was founded to publicize classics and scholarship to a wider public audience.
