Das Rathaus Spandau wurde von den Architekten Heinrich Reinhardt und Georg Süßenguth entworfen und zwischen 1910 und 1913 erbaut. Es steht in der Carl-Schurz-Straße 2–6 am südlichen Rand der Altstadt Spandau im Berliner Ortsteil Spandau.
Die St.-Nikolai-Kirche im Berliner Ortsteil Spandau ist eine dreischiffige gotische Hallenkirche. Erbaut wurde sie im 14. Jahrhundert an der Stelle einer um 1240 als „ecclesia forensis“ (Marktkirche) erstmals urkundlich erwähnten Vorgängerkirche. Zusammen mit der Nikolaikirche in Berlin-Mitte ist sie eines der wenigen erhaltenen mittelalterlichen Gotteshäuser aus den Ursprüngen der Stadt Berlin.

Die St. Nikolaikirche in der Spandauer Altstadt gilt als die Reformationskirche für das Kurfürstentum Brandenburg, denn hier ließ sich am 1.11.1539 Joachim II. das heilige Abendmahl erstmals öffentlich nach evangelischer Lehre in beiderlei Gestalt - mit Brot und Wein - reichen.
In dieser Kirche und auf dem Reformationsplatz davor hat deshalb die EKBO ihren großen Festgottesdienst zum Reformationstag am 31. Oktober begangen. In einer übervollen Kirche und auf dem sehr gut besuchten Reformationsplatz gestalteten Bischof Markus Dröge, Propst Christian Stäblein, Generalsuperintendentin Ulrike Trautwein, Generalsuperintendentin Heilgard Asmus, Generalsuperintendent Martin Herche und Präses Sigrun Neuwerth zusammen mit dem Gospelchor unter der Leitung von Antje Ruhbaum und den Turmbläsern St. Nikolai den Gottesdienst.

Nicolai Quarter: History of Berlin's City Center
Around 1230 the Nikolai Church took shape first as a basilica built in the form of a fortress. You can see it here clearly: the massive and monumental westwork, with its ashlar masonry made of fieldstones dominates the church yard up until today. In the years leading up to 1490, St. Nikolai was transformed into a Gothic hall church. Since then it has been one of the many examples of the flourishing brick architecture in this region. The two twin towers so prominently emerging from the Berlin skyline were added only in the 19th century. In 1938, the church was deconsecrated and now, an exhibition about its history is being shown in its rooms.

The Gothic Revival Church of St. Nicholas (German: St.-Nikolai-Kirche) was formerly one of the five Lutheran Hauptkirchen (main churches) in the city of Hamburg. Bombing of Hamburg in World War II destroyed the bulk of the church and its rubble was removed leaving its crypt, its site and tall spired tower, largely hollow, save for a large set of bells, together serving as a memorial and an important architectural landmark. When Hamburg residents mention the Nikolaikirche, it is generally to this church that they are referring, and not the new Hauptkirche dedicated to Saint Nicholas, in the Harvestehude district.
The church was the tallest building in the world from 1874 to 1876 and is the second-tallest structure in Hamburg. Since 2005, an elevator has been installed to a 75.3 metre-high platform.
Hamburg, officially the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, is the second-largest city of Germany as well as one of the country's 16 constituent states, with a population of roughly 1.8 million people. The city lies at the core of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region which spreads across four German federal states and is home to more than 5 million people.
The official name reflects Hamburg's history as a member of the medieval Hanseatic League, a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire, a city-state and one of the 16 states of Germany. Before the 1871 Unification of Germany, it was a fully sovereign state. Prior to the constitutional changes in 1919 it formed a civic republic headed constitutionally by a class of hereditary grand burghers or Hanseaten. The city has repeatedly been beset by disasters such as the Great Fire of Hamburg, exceptional coastal flooding and military conflicts including World War II bombing raids. Historians remark that the city has managed to recover and emerge wealthier after each catastrophe.
Situated on the river Elbe, Hamburg is home to Europe's second-largest port and a broad corporate base. In media, the major regional broadcasting firm NDR, the printing and publishing firm Gruner + Jahr and the newspapers Der Spiegel and Die Zeit are based in the city. Hamburg remains an important financial center, the seat of Germany's oldest stock exchange and the world's oldest merchant bank, Berenberg Bank. Media, commercial, logistical, and industrial firms with significant locations in the city include multinationals Airbus, Blohm + Voss, Aurubis, Beiersdorf, and Unilever.
The city is a forum for and has specialists in world economics and international law with such consular and diplomatic missions as the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the EU-LAC Foundation, and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning. In recent years, the city has played host to multipartite international political conferences and summits such as Europe and China and the G20. Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, who governed Germany for eight years, came from Hamburg.
The city is a major international and domestic tourist destination. It ranked 18th in the world for livability in 2016. The Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel were declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 2015.
Hamburg is a major European science, research, and education hub, with several universities and institutions. Among its most notable cultural venues are the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle concert halls. It gave birth to movements like Hamburger Schule and paved the way for bands including The Beatles. Hamburg is also known for several theatres and a variety of musical shows. St. Pauli's Reeperbahn is among the best-known European entertainment districts.

The Gothic Revival Church of St. Nicholas was formerly one of the five Lutheran Hauptkirchen in the city of Hamburg. If you would like to see the historic side of Hamburg during your visit, you should plan a stop at the St. Nikolai memorial. The former main church was destroyed during air raids in 1943. Today, the ruin is a place for remembering the victims of war and tyranny. The tower is still the highest church tower in the city. A glass-walled panorama lift travels up to an outlook platform at a height of 76 metres. The museum in the vaulted cellar provides information about the destruction of Hamburg in the Second World War.
St. Nikolai Memorial is Hamburg’s most important memorial for the victims of war between 1933-1945. During the bombing raids on Hamburg, the church tower served allied pilots as a point of orientation. During Operation Gomorrha in 1943, along with the 270,000 homes that were destroyed, the church was hit as well and suffered the same fate. Approximately 35,000 people were killed at the time. The ruins serve today as a memorial.
In the first civic church of Hamburg, visitors can experience German war history up close. A permanent exhibition in the crypt of the ruins depicts the causes and consequences of the aerial war in Europe. Visitors are able to understand the history of St. Nikolai based on historical engravings, drawings and original church windows; black and white photos recall the war and the destruction it brought with it.
The memorial also serves as a cultural meeting place. A current event calendar with concerts, films and lectures creates a link to the present and focuses attention on current conflicts and social flashpoints. A variety of events actively deal with the German culture of remembrance with lectures that discuss current international politics. Germany's largest glockenspiel, installed in the tower in 1993, is sounded at concerts in remembrance of the victims of war. As a member of the Nagelkreuzgemeinschaft (Cross of Nails Community), the St. Nikolai Memorial works for peace and reconciliation.
The almost undamaged 147.3 metre tower of the former main church is considered the fifth highest church tower in the world and it can be explored with a glass panoramic lift. This takes visitors to an observation deck at a height of 76 metres. The view from there extends across the harbour, Alster and the city centre.

Walking from Alexanderplatz to Potsdamer Platz, Berlin - Germany 4K Travel Channel
When we arrive at Alexanderplatz, the first spring sunshine awaits us. We watch the life a little, but stay only briefly. On the way to Nikolai quarter we pass the Red City Hall, the seat of the Berlin Senate and the Governing Mayor of Berlin. The back is determined by the Molkenmarkt, the large surface area determines the construction process. To the left is the Local Court of Berlin-Mitte. Right besides, the old town hall which was built as an extension of the city hall. The Nikolaiviertel is to the right.
The Nikolaiviertel is regarded as one of the oldest quarters of Berlin. In the 2nd World War it was destroyed almost completely in bomb raids and street fights. For the 750th anniversary of Berlin in 1987, the quarter was rebuilt. The St. Nicholas' Church with the Wappenbrunnen (foundation fountain) to commemorate the founding of Berlin, give the impression of an idyllic medieval city, although no building is older than 40 years.
The Ephraim-Palais with its extensive gold ornamentation was built by Veitel Heine Ephraim. He was a financier of the wars of Frederick II. By inferior coins he scored high profits, but contributed to a sharp rise in inflation.
During reconstruction, the building was constructed using original parts, 12 m from the original site. Today it is a museum and part of the Berlin City Museum Foundation.
The Mühlendammschleuse combines the original settlements Coelln (the oldest part of the city of Berlin) and Nikolai. Built as dam, it was later rebuilt to mills that grind grain. Later, sawmills were built. In the 16th century the sluiceway was set up. It allows the sailing around of the mills in the Spree. Due to the ever-growing ships and increasing ship traffic the Mühlendammschleuse was built around 1894. Today's double sluice was set up in 1936.
In 1688, the square was created according to plans of Johann Arnold Nering in the middle of Friedrichstadt. Elector Friedrich III., the later King Frederick I settled the French immigrants (huguenots) who had fled before the French revolution, here.

Als wir am Alexanderplatz ankommen, erwartet uns die erste Frühlingssonne. Wir beobachten ein wenig das Leben, halten uns hier aber nur kurz auf. Auf dem Weg zum Nikolaiviertel passieren wir das „Rote Rathaus“, den Sitz des Berliner Senats und des Regierenden Bürgermeisters von Berlin. Die Rückseite wird vom Molkenmarkt bestimmt, der großflächig das Baugeschehen bestimmt. Zur linken Hand befindet sich das Amtsgericht Mitte. Rechts daneben das alte Stadthaus, das als Erweiterung des Rathauses erbaut wurde. Zur rechten Hand befindet sich das Nikolaiviertel, dem wir uns zuwenden.
Das Nikolaiviertel gilt als eines der ältesten Viertel Berlins. Im 2. Weltkrieg wurde es bei Bombenangriffen und Straßenkämpfen fast vollständig zerstört. Erst zur 750-Jahr-Feier Berlins im Jahre 1987 wurde das Viertel wieder aufgebaut. Die Nikolaikirche mit dem Gründungsbrunnen, der an die Gründung Berlins erinnern soll, vermitteln den Eindruck einer idyllischen mittelalterlichen Stadt, obwohl kein Gebäude älter als 40 Jahre ist.
Das Ephraim-Palais mit seiner reichhaltigen Goldverzierung wurde von Veitel Heine Ephraim erbaut. Er war Finanzier der Kriege von Friedrich II. Durch minderwertige Münzen erzielte er hohe Gewinne, trug aber zu einer stark steigenden Inflation bei.
Beim Wiederaufbau wurde das Gebäude, unter Verwendung ursprünglicher Teile, 12 m vom Ursprungsort wieder errichtet. Heute ist es ein Museum und gehört zur Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin.
Die Mühlendammschleuse verbindet die ursprünglichen Siedlungen Cölln (der älteste Stadtteil Berlins) und Nikolai. Damals als Damm gebaut, wurde er später in Mühlen umgebaut, die erst Getreide mahlten. Später wurden auch Sägemühlen errichtet. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde der Schleusenkanal errichtet, der die Umschiffung der Mühlen in der Spree ermöglichte. Um 1894 wurde wegen der größer werdenden Schiffe und des zunehmenden Schiffsverkehrs, die Mühlendammschleuse errichtet. Die heutige Doppelschleuse wurde 1936 errichtet.
Der Gendarmenmarkt gilt als der schönste Platz Berlins. In der Mitte das Konzerthaus und rechts und links der französische und der deutsche Dom. 1688 wurde der Platz nach Plänen von Johann Arnold Nering inmitten von Friedrichstadt angelegt. Kurfürst Friedrich III., der spätere König Friedrich I. siedelte hier die französischen Einwanderer (Hugenotten) an, die vor der französischen Revolution geflohen waren

St. Nikolai Spandau - Das Gemeindefest 2012
Einmal im Jahr lädt die Ev. Kirchengemeinde St. Nikolai in Belin-Spandau zu einem GEMEINDEFEST mit allen aktiven Gruppen ein. Einerseits soll damit der innere Zusammenhalt gestärkt und die Inhalte der jeweiligen Gruppen sichtbar werden, zum anderen möchte die Gemeinde allen Interessierten die Vielfalt ihrer kirchlichen, sozialen und kulturellen Arbeit vorstellen.
Die Kirche ist damit ein Raum des christlichen Glaubens und lebt ihn in der Gemeinschaft ihrer Menschen, ihrer Taten und ihrer Hoffnungen. St. Nikolai zu Spandau bekennt sich zu seiner Stadt und ihrer Mitverantwortung für alle Menschen. So erhält die biblische Vision von einem Land „Wo Milch und Honig fließen (Motto des Festes 2012) eine ganz eigene, übertragene Bedeutung, die jeder für sich interpretieren kann.

Rosemarie Pritzkat gründete 1991 die Hamburger Chorschule des Knabenchors St. Nikolai, hervorgegangen aus dem NDR Knabenchor. Die Kirchenmusikdirektorin ist damit Deutschlands einzige Leiterin eines renommierten Knabenchores.
Unterricht in Chorleitung und Stimmbildung
Mit 14 Jahren spielte Rosemarie Pritzkat das erste Mal vor Publikum auf der Orgel. Vor 35 Jahren legte sie dann an der Hochschule für Theater und Musik in Hamburg die große A-Prüfung für Kirchenmusik ab und absolvierte ihr Diplom im Bereich Orgelfach. In Meisterkursen im In- und Ausland vertiefte sie ihr Wissen um die Alte Musik und unterrichtet noch heute an der Hamburger Hochschule im Bereich Chorleitung und Stimmbildung.
Rosemarie Pritzkat ist Witwe und Mutter von vier erwachsenen Kindern. Nach 25 Jahren als Kirchenmusikdirektorin schafft sie es noch immer, die Jungs vom Smartphone zu Bach zu locken.
