Fishing a Mixed Bag on the Wando
I head out to fish the outgoing tide on Thursday, October 17, 2019 before the weekend. I start out on the flats with Zman 4 jerk shads I caught 1 trout and must have caught 5 or more lizard fish. I wanted to get away from the trash fish, so I head up river to Juba flats. The bite was much better there, I caught several trout, a flounder and a bluefish. I switch over to topwater and had several big blowups. Then I hook into a nice bluefish at the end of the day. I lost a lot of trout on one of my jigheads. I think I must have caught to many fish on it and need to sharpen it.
Blue Skies over Beaufort?
Well the skies were more of a grey, but as the old saying goes, any day kayaking is better than.... well any other day! So on this not so sunny day in mid September Ladybug and I paddled through one of our favorite places, the backsound and banks in and around Beaufort. We paddled from the boat ramp on Taylors Creek over to Carrot Island then along the backsound down to the Bouge Inlet where we crossed over the bar back into the tidal marsh in the Rachel Carson Reserve to see some of the Banker Horses.

Pinckney Island is a small island located right across the bridge from Hilton Head South Carolina
Unlike Daufuskie island, you don’t have to take a ferry to the island. Here are 7 reasons to visit Pinckney Island
Number 1. Get away from the crowds
I really enjoy Hilton head island. Lots of people, beaches, shopping but sometimes I need to unplug and get away
Pinckney Island is perfect. Easy access, parking, and lots of nature You will find a variety topography including saltmarsh, forestland, brushland, and freshwater ponds. these habitats support a diversity of bird and plant life.
Number 2 See some wildlife It is a short hike or bike ride to Ibis Pond. This pond is full of birds, alligators, and other wildlife
Number 3 Go for a relaxing bike ride
The island has miles of wide trails that you can easily ride your bike on. Pack a lunch and have a day of riding your bike in nature. We took our bikes and had a great time exploring this island
Number 4 Go for a hike. The trails are wide, easy to follow and the scenery is beautiful
Number 5 Read a book by the water There are several trails that end at the water. It is peaceful, relaxing and most likely you will be by yourself.
Number 6 Go for a long run If you like to run and maybe you need a different run than Hilton head then Pinckney island is perfect. There are 10 miles of hiking and running trails.
Number 7 Discover someplace new I have been vacationing in Hilton Head for over 10 years and never took the time to stop by Pinckney island. The island is beautiful, relaxing, and free.
If you enjoy a short hike or a bike ride I think you will enjoy this little island.
