Today the hubby and I take an easy hike up to the Crystal Bay Fire Lookout at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, a secret hike with incredible views that not everyone knows about. We show you where to park on Lakeview Drive, where the trail begins, the best side trail to take, where the best lake view picnic area is, and the most amazing views at the top overlooking the entirety of Lake Tahoe.

Video 13 of 13 covering the entire trip around Lake Tahoe. Done with a GoPro Hero II camera and my custom designed 2.5 ft. tall roof top robotic camera mount. I have complete control over camera start/stop, a recording indicator, panning through 180 degrees and position feedback to show where the camera is pointing.
As we drive along Hwy. 28, from the Hwy 267 turn off to Incline Village, we'll pass by Stateline at the north end of the Lake. Just inside the Nevada border are a few casinos that are nowhere nearly as large as the ones at the south end of the Lake. The largest casino/hotel in this area is actually the Hyatt over in Incline Village.
When you see the Biltmore casino to the left, know that there's an old fire lookout directly up the hillside that at one time was an important factor in spotting fires quickly. The lookout building is not there anymore but the location has been converted into a really nice concrete observation deck that has great views of the Lake. To get here, turn uphill immediately at the right hand end of the Biltmore parking lot (Resevoir Rd.). When you get to the corner, turn right and follow the road (Lakeview Ave.) uphill. Next you'll come to a fork- take the left heading on uphill (Tuscarora Rd. goes right). After a short distance you'll see the green forest service gate to the left. Park nicely so you're off the road and not blocking any of the local's driveways. The walk is only about 2/3mile or so up the hill to the old fire lookout location. There's a short nature trail that loops around the point directly below the observation deck. You pick up this trail .10 mile back from the forest service restroom facility at the top. The trails takes off and returns from the main road here.

Transcript:
Hi everybody! I'm Phillip Goodman from the Nevada
Real Estate Group at Keller Williams
Group One, Inc in Reno, Nevada and today I'm
here with Trulie and Chris McCabe here
in Lake Tahoe. We just spent a fabulous
morning boating, kayaking, went out for
lunch at the Hyatt and now we're going
to get into the Lake Tahoe real estate
market report. So Trulie, Chris how are you
guys doing today? We're great. Awesome day
today. Absolutely fantastic today. Trulie,
there's still a lot of people that have
never even been to Lake Tahoe. What makes
this place so special and so different
and obviously very desirable? One of the
things that I really enjoy are the four
seasons. It gives us time to get outside and
enjoy all the things that we love to do.
My favorite things I think are boating,
hiking, there's water skiing, there's jet
skiing, there's one other thing:
golfing is very nice. But just the
overall scenery here and the feeling of
being outside and the beauty everywhere
you look makes Tahoe a really special
place. So Chris Trulie is a summer gal,
you're more of a winter guy though.
What's there to do here in Tahoe in the
winter time? I moved here thirty-eight
years ago to ski Tahoe and that's
what I love to do. And I snowmobile. My
skiing. Tahoe has some of the best skiing in
the West. I usually get my 50 or 60 days
in per year and you know I love sharing
that with my clients as well. So Chris
there's also one mountain in particular
here that offers a special discount if
you're an incline Village resident. There
is and that's called Diamond Peak and
it's right here in town probably 7 minutes away from the farthest doorstep in Incline and you can ski there as a
resident for only $25. Trulie unlike Reno
where you've got tract homes, cookie
cutter all stucco, up here in Tahoe
everything's pretty much custom built.
What's the the range in prices of these
properties when you look at condos and
stick builds around the
Lake? We have some low-end condos
starting at about $300,000. We also have a
starter house at $650,000. We do have
lakefront properties those run at
about two and a half million. Chris with
so many different types of homes with
such varying values are we seeing home
prices going up or down right now? Well
it's a great question. What's happening
is homes are actually dropping. We're
coming off the selling season, July and
August, and going into the sell-off
season. Right now our inventory is quite
low. We only have one hundred sixty four
houses on the market currently. Of those
164, 67 of them have done a
price improvement in the last two weeks.
Well then Chris that begs the question
why are there price improvements in such
a thriving market? Well many people are
wanting to get rid of their homes before
the winter or they've been up here
they've spent the summer here had a
great summer and it's time to move on.
The home sales in the winter do drop off
and so the next two months September and
October are very strong for discounted
and opportunities for offers and picking
up a good deal in Incline. I work with
a lot of people that are looking to get
away from state income tax. Nevada as you
know does not have a state income tax so
if they happen to be coming from
California and they can save 13.3% by
just moving to Nevada and becoming a
resident. It's very easy to become a
resident in the state of Nevada. You can
actually do it in about four days after
purchasing your home. Four days. Four days.
You can have an LLC and be a resident.
Excellent! Well we also encourage you to
consult your tax advisor either here in
Nevada or California to do that. Well
there you have it. That is your Lake
Tahoe market report for August
2018. For more information you can
contact Chris and Trulie McCabe at the
info you see on your screen now. If
you're ready to list your property here
in Tahoe or if you're ready to buy one
of these luxurious lakeside homes you
definitely want to contact Chris and
Trulie. They will get the job done for you.
If you found this information helpful
please be sure to like it
and share it on your social media as
well. For Chris and Trulie McCabe for the
Nevada Real Estate Group at Keller
Williams Group One, Inc. in Reno, Nevada
I'm Philip Goodman we'll see you next
time.
Ski Lift in South Lake Tahoe
I went to South Lake Tahoe this summer and took the ski lift from Heavenly Village to the tippy top of the mountain. There's an observation deck on the way up and the view is amazing. Lake Tahoe is a really, really big lake. I ate lunch at the Tamarack Lodge. I had a turkey sandwich, slaw and fries with a drink for $32.00. Ouch. It had rained the night before and it brought out the smell of the trees and the air was cool at the top. A fun video shooting experience.

Lake Tahoe Rainbow Trail
Named for the rainbows that sparkle in the morning dew, the Rainbow Trail is a special place. It loops through the largest meadow/marsh at Lake Tahoe.

AMAZING 1972 Otis Lexan Traction Elevator at The Lakeside Inn and Casino, South Lake Tahoe, NV
This is the first of my few Nevada videos, and I must say this is a VERY NICE elevator!!!! This hotel is oddly layed out. Weird thing is that this elevator only serves the casino floor, the lobby, and a small portion of the hotel. Rest of the hotel has no elevator. But this was a cool find in a place you wouldn't expect to have an elevator!!!! If I didn't see it on Google maps, I probably would have skipped this place!!!
Installed: 1972

Weekend gateway in South Lake Tahoe I Travel diary
Travel video blog about our trip to South Lake Tahoe in early April 2018.
Lake Tahoe is located just over 3 hours away from San Francisco, making it the perfect destination for a weekend gateway trip. Located in the border os California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is most known for its beaches and ski resorts.
One of the first places we visited on this trip was Emerald Bay State Park, which was was the highlight of our trip. Emerald Bay is a state park that can be accessed through California State Route 89 and it is one of the popular destinations in Tahoe as it provides amazing panoramic views of the Lake.
We visited a few different points of the park on this trip such as Inspiration Point View, Emerald Bay Beach and a few different hiking trails along the route. We visited Tahoe in early April / Spring. At this time of the year, the weather beautiful and sunny, the wind was cold but overall the weather was pleasant and enjoyable..
The good thing about lake Tahoe is that there is always something to do, no matter what season you visit. In winter, you can go skiing or snowboarding in the Heavenly mountains. In summer, you can go for a hike or to the beach. The city also has plenty of good restaurants to choose from, as well as gift shops, and even Casinos.
We loved exploring the breathtaking landscapes surrounded by pine trees and snow capped mountains, charming wood cabins and everything that Lake Tahoe had to offer. We can’t wait to go back in summer to further explore the area and enjoy the beach!
