Statsraad Lehmkuhl - Bergen, Norway 5 December 2015 Leave Her Johnny
End of voyage sea shanty on the quayside
Leave Her Johnny (Lyrics)
I thought I heard the old man say,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
You can go ashore and draw your pay,
And it's time for us to leave her
Chorus:
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
When the wind won't blow and the ship won't go
And it's time for us to leave her
You can make her mast and pack your gear
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
You can leave her moored to the East quay pier
And it's time for us to leave her
The winds were foul, the work was hard,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
From Greenock Docks to Brooklyn Yard
And it's time for us to leave her
She would neither steer nor wear nor stay,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
She shipped it green both night and day,
And it's time for us to leave her
She shipped it green and she made us curse,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
The mate was a devil and the old man worse,
And it's time for us to leave her
The winds were foul, the ship was slow,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
The grub was bad, the wages low,
And it's time for us to leave her
The winds were foul, the trip was long,
Leave her, Johnny, leave her.
But before we go we'll sing this song
And it's time for us to leave her

Statsraad Lehmkuhl is a three-masted barque rigged sail training vessel owned and operated by the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation. It is based in Bergen, Norway and contracted out for various purposes, including serving as a school ship for the Royal Norwegian Navy (using RNoN's prefix HNoMS).
Line art of Statsraad Lehmkuhl
It was built in 1914 by Joh. C. Tecklenborg ship yard in Geestemünde as a school training ship for the German merchant marine under the name Grossherzog Friedrich August. After the First World War the ship was taken as a prize by the United Kingdom and in 1921 the ship was bought by former cabinet minister Kristoffer Lehmkuhl (hence the name, which means Cabinet Minister Lehmkuhl). With the exception of the Second World War, when she was captured by German troops and called Westwärts, the ship has belonged to Bergens Skoleskib until it was donated to the Foundation in 1978.
In 2000, she was chartered by the German Navy while their Gorch Fock was overhauled.

Statsraad Lehmkuhl - Bergen, Norway 5 December 2015 South Australia
The sailors have climbed the masts of this 100 year old tall ship to sing their end of voyage song. Videoed from across the bay
South Australia (Lyrics)
In South Australia I was born
To me heave away, haul away
In South Australia round Cape Horn
Chorus
We're bound for South Australia
Haul away you rolling kings
To me heave away, haul away
Haul away, you'll hear me sing
We're bound for South Australia
2. As I walked out one morning fair
To me heave away, haul away
'Twas there I met Miss Nancy Blair
Chorus
3. I shook her up and I shook her down
To me heave away, haul away
I shook her round and round the town
Chorus
4. I run her all night and I run her all day
To me heave away, haul away
And I run her until we sailed away
Chorus
5. There ain't but one thing grieves me mind
To me heave away, haul away
To leave Miss Nancy Blair behind
Chorus
6. And as we wallop around Cape Horn
To me heave away, haul away
You'll wish to God you'd never been born
Chorus
7. In South Australia my native land
To me heave away, haul away
Full of rocks and thieves and fleas and sand
Chorus
8. I wish I was on Australia's strand
To me heave away, haul away
With a bottle of whiskey in my hand
Chorus
