Stavanger Identity presentation, SKUR2 September 2019, Stavanger Norway

Stavanger Identity and Europe Identity is a collection where Pia MYrvoLD works with identity as a multidisciplinary art project.
The idea was first introduced in Stavanger in 1993, and MYrvoLD followed up with the internationally renowned Paris Identity collection in 1994, shown as the debut collection under the French fashion week's official viewing calendar in 1994.
The series developed in the project cybercouture and Clothes as Publishing, presented in the Western Art Industry Museum - Bergen, European Culture City 2000 opening exhibition, in which palettes from media productions, photos, and video, were published on clothing and tapestries.
The artist takes up the theme again in 2019, with Stavanger Identity II, with a collection of 35 original “One-off” art wear outfits.
In 2019, Myrvold presented the start of Europe Identity, with a ball gown made by GILES JEUNES, as a performance project at Place de la Republique in Paris.
Stavanger Identity II and Europa Identity GILET JEUNES ball dress was shown during the exhibition TIME MACHINE III, in Skur 2, Stavanger 2019.

The identity series has been purchased by the National Museum, Nordenfjeldske Art Industry Museum, Trondheim and Bergen Art Museum's public collections.

Visit the beautiful region of Rogaland with Stavanger city, the Lysefjord, and the Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen)

The Stavanger region boasts many scenic attractions, among them the Lysefjord, Sola beach and the world famous Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock). Preikestolen is located 604 metres above sea level and is the most visited attraction in the county of Rogaland. Lonely Planet named it the number one most breathtaking viewing platform in the world.

The city centre of Stavanger is quite compact, which makes it easy to reach most attractions on foot. Old Stavanger offers Europe's best preserved wooden house settlement, consisting of more than 170 white wooden houses. On your walk you can easily stop by some of the city's many museums, such as the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, Stavanger museum of Fine Arts and the Norwegian Canning museum.

Visit the Norwegian Petroleum Museum, go on a cruise on the Lysefjord, ascend Preikestolen or join a guided sightseeing trip around Stavanger.

02 Stavanger

Arriving into Stavanger, the weather showed some blue skies with passing showers and was quite cool. Later the sun warmed us up providing we were out of the breeze.
Norway's fourth largest city, Stavanger lies at the mouth of the Gandsfjord. The old port, attests to the sea's enduring role in Norwegian history. Here, Vikings once sailed on voyages of conquest and exploration. In later centuries, the port served as a major hub for Norway's mercantile and fishing fleets. By the mid-20th century, however, Stavanger had fallen on hard times as the fishing grounds dwindled. In 1969, the discovery of North Sea oil opened a new chapter in Stavanger's history.
So this time the Norwegian Petroleum Museum was on our sightseeing list. On our last visit in 2013, we cruised the Lysefjord under Pulpit Rock. With the benefit of Hutch our Port Lecturer, we saw some of his photos at the top of Pulpit Rock. Scary! (We also remembered that on that cruise on the Crown Princess, the Port Lecturer failed to show).

Disembarking we walked off the ship around the cove and ended up at Stavanger Cathedral (under repair and closed but we managed to see of the interior as it was open to prepare for the filing of a chamber music recital). We were heading towards the Valberg Tower we thought, but ended up near the Petroleum Museum. The museum visit was well worthwhile with a mixture of models, film, and child appealing things to do.

Our walk continued up to the Valberg Tower (said to be a good view of the port area but …. It was a good view of that dam ship, Eurodam). We walked down to the port level and along Old Stavanger and re-boarded the ship. Perfect timing, before a lot of squally rain early afternoon.

High winds & cramped by the two other ships in port, our departure was delayed by two hours.

Study at the University of Stavanger

The University of Stavanger (UiS) has approximately 10,100 students and offers a wide range of study and research programmes. The location of the University, Stavanger, lies on Norway’s south-west coast and is an urban city surrounded by magnificent and diverse landscapes. The UiS consists of the Faculty of Arts and Education, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Museum of Archaeology. Full-time Master's programmes as well as student exchange programmes are offered at the University, which welcomes students from all over the world. The UiS admits around 400 international students every year who form an integral part of the community on campus.

A summer's day in Stavanger, Norway
