Steiglitz town pictorial in Victoria. Steiglitz was a former gold mining town.
When I was young I still remember going into some of the mines and being shown in there by one of the local miners last named Trotters. They lived at the general store which was also used by Cobb & Co over 100 years ago. That building is still there on the corner and has been restored.
Many of the original buildings have all gone now. Some were moved to Swan Hill to display at their heritage village display.

Not much remains of the New Mariners mine today , some brickwork , a mine shaft depression and a large mollock heap. This mine and the United Albion mine were said to the only two profitable mines in the area.

took a trip to steiglitz mining town not far from home, not much to see but some remanence of the old buildings and bakeries, couldn't find the main entrance to the mines, that would be an adventure.

Steiglitz ( situated between Geelong and Ballarat ) is almost a ghost town today, but in the 1860's and 1890's it was a busy gold mining township with hotels, shops, churches and a population of over 1000.
At the height of the 1860's gold rush, Steiglitz township had more than 1500 residents, four hotels, a newspaper, a variety of shops and even an undertaker. Now most of the town and its surroundings are included in the 469 hectare Steiglitz Historic Park, declared in 1979.

Today WAS My Day | Gold Detecting Victoria, Australia
Today I caught up with a mate for a day out detecting near Castlemaine in central Victoria. So I busted out the ol' Minelab SDC2300 and swang away...and managed to come away with a couple (or more) nice little gold nuggets for my efforts. Not a bad day out if you ask me. What do you think?

Walk through a gold mine western districts Victoria
An uneasy walk through an old goldmine in Steiglitz, with and amazing crystal clear water filled shaft at the end.
This was my first visit to this mine, it's not in the best shape
