The ancient STHANESHWAR Mahadev Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated in Thanesar, a holy town in Kurukshetra district of Haryana. Here Pandavs along with Shri Krishna prayed to Lord Shiva and received his blessings for victory in the battle of Mahabharata. Thaneshwar or Thanesar the name of this town which is adobe of Mahadev also comes from the word STHANESHWAR that means home of lord Shiva. This ancient city was the capital of the great King Harshvardhana. Pilgrimage to Kurukshetra is believed unfruitful if the visit to this ancient temple is not made. That's why people visit first to This temple when they go to Kurukshetra.
