Sueyoshi Park | Explore Oki 01
My friend Megan showed me this amazing park in Naha called Sueyoshi. There's a little creek that you can go to that is SO nice and refreshing on a hot oki day. She did say usually the water is a little higher so, if you go keep that in mind. It's ALOT of walking and stairs if you intend on hiking/walking around the whole park, but there is a playground for kiddos, or adult kiddos ;)

Shrine in Ozato
I stumbled upon this shrine one day as I was driving to another fun and interesting location. I quickly gave the signal to pull over and hopped out to check it out. Unfortunately, like most, there is no name on the shrine nor were there any signs. It is not marked on the map either. For now I will call it Shrine in Ozato because of it's location.

Nakagusuku Castle is one of several castles, which were built across Okinawa during the era of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which had been in existence for several centuries before Okinawa became a Japanese prefecture in 1879. Only ruins remain of the castle today, but these are well preserved, and the castle's division into multiple citadels can still clearly be recognized. There are also nice views of the surrounding area and Nakagusuku Bay from the castle ruins.
Nakagusuku Castle is among the Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu, which were added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the year 2000. It is recommended to COMBINE a visit to Nakagusuku Castle with a visit to nearby Nakamurake, a beautiful, traditional Okinawan style residence from the 18th century.
Nakagusuku Castle is located in central Okinawa Honto, about 15 kilometers northeast of Naha.
By bus
Take bus number 30 from Naha Bus Terminal to Nakagusuku Shogakko-mae (60 minutes, 750 yen, 2-4 buses per hour), from where it is a 30 minute walk uphill to the castle.
By car
Take the Okinawa Expressway to the Kita-Nakagusuku Exit (about 20 minutes from central Naha; more during rush hours), from where signs will lead you in about five minutes to the nearby castle.
Hours: 8:30 to 17:00 (until 18:00 from May to September)
Closed: No closing days
Admission: 400 yen

Shinuga Shrine Ruins - Okinawa, Japan
Chuu uganabira! My name is Kathryn and I have been living on the beautiful island of Okinawa for almost a decade. I spend most of my time immersing myself in the culture, learning about the history of the island and way of life past and present. In 2011 I decided to start sharing my experiences here on YouTube to offer newcomers and those interested in the island the perspective of someone who has been living here long term. Backpacking Okinawa: Onoyama Koen Shrine
This small and pretty shrine is located somewhere in Onoyama Koen (Naha,Okinawa). It is quite peaceful; has a small waterfall with some fishes, beautiful flowers and a meditating Buddha statue.

100 Kobudo Kata 2019: Asato Dojo (Okinawa)
Hello Friends! This is a video I put together to share highlights of the 2019 100 Kata Kobudo event here in Okinawa. If you participated in the event in your own country or are interested in martial arts and karate in general, feel free to share the video and/or also drop a comment on the official event pages and SNS sites (see links below).
Challenge Okinawa (Event Organizer)
The videos were taken with my iPhone during the event at Sakiyama Park in Naha on Sunday, 31st March. I also participated in the event (however, and sadly for me, I do not have any videos of me doing the kata as they got accidentally deleted from my iPhone before they got backed up on the cloud. What a shame really...but anyway, all those who took part in the event here can attest that I was not just filming and that I actually did do the kata :)
We got lucky with the weather and enjoyed a lovely morning breeze and sunny skies practicing the kata overlooking the Shuri Castle and Naha City. The event is organized by the Asato Dojo and James Pankiewicz and is held every year at a different location in Okinawa.
If you are interested in martial arts and/or fitness/yoga training, please check out the Asato Dojo at Sogenji street. For those of you who know Okinawa, it is just opposite the Dojo Bar!
Asato Dojo Website
Please also check out Chris Willson`s page for more photos and videos on the Karate Masters Project. Chris has been doing dedicated work on this project since its beginning. For those interested in photography, Chris also offers workshops and seminars in the beautiful land of Motobu up North!
Last but not least, here is the link to Josh Simmer`s Okinawa karate podcasts, a good resource to learn more about the beautiful Okinawan world of martial arts and karate.
Thanks for watching :)
