Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine - Osaka ᴴᴰ ● 住吉大社 大阪
► Osaka's most famous shrine by far, is Sumiyoshi Taisha (Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine) - founded in 211, and the headquarter of some 2000 Sumiyoshi shrines throughout Japan. It enshrines three gods that have long been worshiped for protecting the nation. The shrine's symbol, the gracefully arched Taiko-bashi bridge, spans the pond in front of the shrine.
It's a great place to visit, and offers a nice, peaceful contrast to the otherwise more noisy neighborhoods of Osaka. - Enjoy!

HUGE OSAKA FESTIVAL!
We spent a full day in Osaka celebrating the city’s often overlooked shrines. Sumiyoshi Shrine is so beautiful with its arched bridge and multiple wedding processions. The Hiraoka Festival is one of the largest matsuri festivals in Osaka. It was truly unforgettable. Dinner at CocoCurry was a perfect end to the day.

Sumiyoshi Taisha, Osaka 2017
I got wind of a festival happening at one of Japan's oldest shrines. I ventured out to see what was going on. It turned out to be a ritual involving a sacred horse - an opportunity to rid your evil spirits at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, I missed the horse but hopefully there's a lot more interesting things to see. Hope you enjoy.
