New Speed Record On Mont Blanc - from the summit to the centre of Chamonix in 32 Minutes!
New Speed Record On Mont Blanc - 14km in 32 Minutes!
French skiers Antoine Montegani, Nicolas Anthonioz and a bunch of their friends have finally completed a project that had been in the pipeline for the last three years: making it from the summit of Mont Blanc down to the centre of Chamonix in record time. They skied down to the snow limit, ran through the forest and got lost along the way then hopped on their bikes with ski boots on and pedalled all the way to the church on Chamonix's main square. An incredible 32 minutes later, Nicolas made it, and although being stoked on his performance, vowed never to do anything like that again!

Mont Blanc summit (the Gouter route ) and Chamonix adventures 2019
Summit expedition on the tallest mountain in western Europe without a guide.
We set out up to the Tete Rousse refuge 3,167 m, were we planned to stay for two nights (to acclimatise to the altitude even though we had taken Diamox) via cable car and mountain tram. Taking in the views and getting used to being out of breath with stiff legs, even though we were not camping we each carried around 18 K.
After keeping a close eye on the changing weather patterns we could see two days of extreme wind and snow heading our way, leaving a small gap for the summit attempt the following morning or on the Wednesday as planed (if the the storm had cleared by then.
After heavy discussion we decided to make a bid to get to the top of the 4810 M mountain the next morning.
We got up at 4 am and set out in to the alpine darkness for a 700 m scramble to the snowline and the Gouter Hut 3,835 metres ( were we originally were going to sleep for two nights and make our summit from.) But first we had to cross the Grand couloir ( known for its falling rocks and deaths). after making to the snow line we put on out crampons and carried our ice axes, making our way up and on to the Dôme du Goûter then to the Vallot hut 4,362 m where we stopped for short break.
Shortness of breath was a constant battle not to mention every leg mussel feeling on fire as we pushed further and further up the mountain, until now the weather was still on our side.
As we continued climbing up on the the infamous knife edge Bosses ridge the wind became increasing heavy with a lot more cloud forming and rushing past us. This became a slog as out body's reacted to the fatigue and lack of oxygen.
At some point on the summit 4810 m we had complete white out conditions, i was struggling with breathing and we all knew snow was about to fall. Covering deep crevasses , tracks and making navigation impossible we decided to make our way back down to the Gouter hut to spend the night.
The next morning we descended the 700 m scramble to the Tete Rousse refuge 3,167 m in poor visibility , high wind and snow. Already heaving going from the recent exertion of climbing the mountain in 48 ours instead of 90. we continued to battle the elements. Just above the the Grand couloir we saw some enormous rocks fall in the next couloir over to us which is enough to sharpen the senses more than your morning coffee.
Returning back to Chamonix for a well deserved pint (or two) and some much needed rest.
The next few days we made the most of out time and location by exploring some of the local glaciers and enjoying some lovely alpine hikes

Exploring the French Alps, Chamonix, France
Chamonix France, featuring the Mont Blanc Massif, the jewel of the French Alps. Mont Blanc, the tallest summit in Europe, is flanked by the Aiguilles de Chamonix, a line of paramount shaped Aiguille (needle) summiits. From Chamonix, you can take gondola rides over Valle Blanc to Helbrooner, Italy, or you can hike the Grand Balcon Sud trail and paraglide down to the valley.

I Got lucky I got some good lift to reach the Mon Blanc Summit. I took the 16h30 gondola for an incredible after work paragliding flight. It ended up soaring at the summit of Mont Blanc. Reaching an altitude of 4880m.

Yesterday, with friends, we had an INCREDIBLE chance: to reach the roof of Europe in less than 2 hours and fly above 5000 meters above sea level after taking off above at Chamonix in Planpraz at only 2000 meters!
EXCEPTIONAL conditions allowed us to exploit the ascendant current with our paragliders to land at the summit of Mont Blanc at 4810 meters!
With climate change, these heat waves are stronger and more frequent. The official measuring station, 50 meters below the summit, shows 6.8 degrees Celsius, the absolute record since the beginning of temperature readings, all seasons combined!
This heat wave in early summer endangers the entire alpine massif: seracs fall, rock collapse, melting glaciers are accelerating.
To limit these effects, concrete, local and replicable solutions all over the world exist. This summer, I will meet the women and men who have imagined and put them in place.
