Sun Yat-sen was the founding father of the Republic of China. The first provisional president of the Republic of China, Sun was a Chinese medical doctor, writer, philosopher, Georgist, calligrapher and revolutionary. Sun's chief legacy resides in his developing of the political philosophy known as the Three Principles of the People: nationalism , “rights of the people,” sometimes translated as “democracy,” and the people's livelihood .
