Jim’s brother Dave was able to join us for this quick day hike to Little Yosemite in the Sunol Regional Wilderness. There is some light, fairly gentle climbing in the first half of this (roughly) 4 mile loop where we got a glimpse of some cattle. No close encounters on this trip, which is always a distinct possibility as cows are often near or even on the trail at parts, but it was a beautiful day nonetheless.
As stated in our previous release, it had been raining in California. A lot. We were absolutely lucky to squeeze in the Cache Creek trip, as a new storm came in right as we left.
After about 10 days or so, the sky opened up, just for the weekend, before yet another front was on its way. So we threw our gear into the truck and headed for the Sunol Regional Wilderness while we could.
It was really great to see all the water flowing as much as it was there, just as we saw at Cache Creek. While the rain has possibly made it inconvenient to film a hike, it was obviously long overdue and a much welcomed sight.
Once we ended up on the fire road, closing out the loop, there were a few people getting an equestrian tour of the area, something anyone interested in a local horseback ride may want to keep in mind, especially beginners.

The acoustic guitar was a Larrivee OM-40 in CGCGGC tuning, and the percussion was a Schlagwerk Bass Cajon and Cajinto with egg shakers. All instruments were recorded on a Zoom H6 and mixed using Avid Pro Tools First.

Beautiful Trail Hiking: Eagle View Trail in Sunol Regional Wilderness (Little Yosemite) California

Eagle View is one of the best of many great trails at Sunol Wilderness in the hills east of Fremont, California. Eagle's View Trail in Sunol Wilderness dives into a canyon and climbs up out of it to reveal stunning vistas of the park and the nearby East Bay hills. As scenery goes, this is about as good as it gets in the San Francisco Bay Area. Springtime, when the hills are bright green and the California poppies are really popping, is the best time to come, with winter and fall not far behind (the October tarantula-mating season is a crowd-pleaser. Really). Summertime is a bit toasty, especially for this hike, which includes lots of climbing and descending.

Little Yosemite via Canyon View Trail - Sunol Regional Wilderness, CA
Do you know there's a little Yosemite not so far from the cities in the Bay Area? You don't have to drive all the way to Yosemite National Park!
Sunol Regional Wilderness is just several miles from I-680 Freeway. The vast open space and forests situated in the East Bay hills north of Silicon Valley include rolling hills, hiking trails, rocks/boulder formations, rivers, waterfalls and wildlife.
Whoever named it, Little Yosemite in Sunol offers a series of waterfalls, river and impressive canyon views with big rocks and boulders. Although there's no monolith like El Capitan or Half Dome, the journey to Little Yosemite offers a pleasant hike that kids and family can enjoy.
Canyon View Trail is a good workout hike with some steep grade and it gets your heart rate going no doubt. If you prefer easygoing hike, the wide dirt road from the parking area is a good choice to hike to Little Yosemite.
The Sunol Regional Wilderness is a regional
The Sunol Regional Wilderness is a regional park in Alameda County, California, United States that is administered by the East Bay Regional Park District. It is located south of the town of Pleasanton and east of Fremont.
The park was established in 1962. In the early 1990s, naturalist Joanne Dean-Freemire lead outdoor classes at the Sunol Regional Wilderness that cover history, sociology, Indian lore, handicrafts and nature studies that included locating California slender salamanders under rocks.[1] As of 2006, the price of entry is $5 per car, $4 per vehicle with a trailer, $1 per person on a bus, $50 for an empty bus and $5 for an empty commercial trans. van. The price of entry for a dog is $2, but guide dogs are free. The park is normally open from 7 a.m. till dusk, after which the gates will be locked, all year. Anyone wishing to camp on the site must arrive and be signed in by dusk. The park is subject to either closure or fire restriction in June and October (fire season).
Local Bay Area Hikes Ep. 3: Sunol Regional Wilderness
Sunol Regional Wilderness just east of Fremont is a local yet secluded park full of outdoor bounty for the any nature enthusiast.
Most people are familiar with the gem of Sunol, Little Yosemite a waterfall that shares a liking to the namesake in the Sierras.
However in this episode of Local Bay Area Hikes, Sam takes away from the path of the weekend warrior to explore the Cave Rocks & High Valley Campsite on a brisk 4 mile hike. Starting along Alameda Creek, then up a tributary to the rock outcroppings of Cave Rocks. Coming out of the valley, we see some stunning Panoramic Views before we get to High Valley Camp. Make sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen & bug repellent.
There are plenty of great places to stop for a picnic so bring a snack or lunch. There are also great places near Little Yosemite and Alameda Creek in the parking lot too if you want to save your meal for after your hike!

Hiking: Sunol Regional Wilderness Little Yosemite Falls Northern California
Sunol Regional will be a 8.5 Mike 1900 elevation hike. Wild Cows and Bulls. With a few stream crossings. Start at Little Indian Joe Trailhead to Canyon view trail down Cerro Este Trail to Little Yosemite(falls). Take Camp Ohlone road to Backpack road to Sunol Camping area to McCorkle trail then take right to Cerro Este road to Cerro Este Overlook then left at Caves Rock road right in Eagle view trail then left on Eagle view road right on Cave rocks take left on Indian Joe creek to IJ nature back to start. Enjoy the Hike!!
