Swiftcurrent to Many Glacier Hotel ~ Glacier National Park, Montana (8-3-13)
This is the mile & a half between the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn (at the end of the road in the Many Glacier Valley) back down to the Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park, Montana. I didn't speed up the video, so that it was easier to enjoy the amazing scenery in the valley. I also included the drive through the parking lot at the end, for a good look at the mountains to the north & south, as well as the only good look at Grinnell Point & Mt Wilbur at the very end when we parked.
In case the hotel is what you really want to enjoy, we turned onto the driveway at 2:25.

Many Glacier Hotel - Glacier National Park, Montana, USA
As we finished our two day stay at Yellowstone National Park we headed up to Montana to visit Glacier National Park and stay 3 nights at Many Glacier Hotel. I read about the area and hotel online but it could not do it justice to how our experience was when we first set our eyes on Glacier National Park as we drove inside the park on our way to Many Glacier Hotel. Then getting to the hotel and seeing the scenery was just fantastic. This was at the beginning of July and to see the snow mixed in with the green all over the mountains made it more beautiful. I did not know how much snow would be around at the beginning of July and I was surprised by how much was still there. The Hotel was very rustic and the feel inside was very comfortable. There are no tv's, no cell phone use or pc's to use. It made it more enjoyable in my opinion because you could relax inside or out and just enjoy the scenery to its fullest all around the area and not be bothered by electronic gadgets :-)
When we were there the weather was very unpredictable with rain at times and then bright sunshine. The clouds coming over the mountains made for a perfect setting also. It was in the 50's to high 60's for our stay and we had one awesome day of just sunshine when we went hiking around Swiftcurrent Lake.
This area is VERY remote and it adds to your stay here at Many Glacier Hotel. We did see wildlife, a Moose family, Mountain Goats, Prairie Dogs and even a Grizzly Bear through (binoculars) and even then was hard to make out.. but we were not dissapointed in NOT seeing that bear any closer..
I'll have two other videos, one of our hike around Swiftcurrent Lake and another from our Red Bus Tour we took for a day. Don't miss either video because they are spectacular viewing, especially the Red Bus Tour up to Logan Pass and the Continental Divide.. WOW!
Here is some more info on Many Glacier Hotel from Wikipedia:
Many Glacier Hotel is a historic hotel located within Glacier National Park, Montana, USA, on the east shore of Swiftcurrent Lake. The building is designed as a series of chalets, up to four stories tall, and stretches for a substantial distance along the lakeshore. The building has a Swiss alpine theme both on the outside and on the inside. The foundation is made of stone, with a wood superstructure. The outside is finished with brown-painted wood siding, and the window framing and balconies have wood sawn in Swiss jigsawn patterns. On the inside, the four-story lobby is surrounded by balconies, whose railings are patterned after Swiss designs.
Construction began at Many Glacier Hotel in 1914 and was finished in just 1 year on July 4, 1915. The Great Northern Railway was establishing a series of hotels and backcountry chalets in the park and the Many Glacier Hotel was the Gem of the West. This was part of an effort by Louis Hill, president of the Great Northern Railway and son of James J. Hill, to establish Glacier National Park as a destination resort and to promote the area as the American Alps. To this end, Hill chose a Swiss chalet style for the hotels and chalets. The Glacier Park Lodge (previously known as the Glacier Park Hotel) and the Many Glacier Hotel were intended to be the core structures, while the chalets and campgrounds were sited in the backcountry within an easy day's ride or hike from one of the hotels or another chalet. The chalets were intended to entice visitors to leave the hotels and see the backcountry in a more rustic manner. These chalets were especially used during the early 1900s when the Hotel first opened, and the main attraction in the park was horseback riding. In the early days of Many Glacier Hotel only the rich and famous could afford to stay in this beautiful structure and the rustic chalets throughout the area.
Today, the hotel still maintains its historic character, in part by not placing televisions in guest rooms. Most rooms either have views of Swiftcurrent Lake or the surrounding mountain scenery. Facilities include the Ptarmigan Dining room, the Swiss Room Lounge and Interlaken Lounge, Heidi's Snack Shop, and Grizzly Track Traders Gift Shop. The hotel is a contributing property in the National Historic Landmark, Great Northern Railway Buildings district. The main attractions in the area include hiking, boat rides or rentals, or simply enjoying the western environment that Many Glacier provides.

Hiking around Many Glacier Hotel & Swiftcurrent Lake - Montana 2012
In this video you will see the many sights around Many Glacier Hotel and Swiftcurrent Lake from my Hike around the area in early July 2012. My sister and her husband also went with me and we all loved the breathtaking scenery. Please watch this in HD and full screen if possible to take advantage of the beauty!
This was our third day at Many Glacier Hotel and the best day of our stay from a weather standpoint. It was bright and sunny throughout the day and temps in the high 50's to low 60's. We spent about 3 hours walking around the Hotel and Swiftcurrent Lake filming all the scenery and then had a nice lunch at the hotel.
It felt great to be out in the middle of nowhere hiking in the mountains not knowing what lies ahead. We were a little nervous about the Bears from people talking about them and then seeing the signs posted. You have to take it seriously because you just never know when and if you may run into a wild Bear. We did see one Grizzly Bear way up on one mountain but far from us to worry about. It was hard to even see him with binoculars and we did not venture in the area he was in.
We hiked around Swifcurrent Lake and that trails was 2.6 miles. There were other trails that led further into the mountains and we did take one trail that led us to Lake Josephine but we decided to stop and not go any further into the mountains. We could of went on to Grinnell Lake and even the Grinnell Glacier but that was quite far and not knowing how long it was going to take we decided against it. We are not experienced mountain hikers either so that did have some play into the decision.
The Moose we saw was across the lake at one point so I had to zoom all the way in with my camcorder to capture it so it is a little shaky but neat to see. The still images at the end of the video I shot with my 4.0 mega pixel camcorder still image recording, not bad I must say!
From what I did film around the Hotel and Lakes you can see that it is beautiful country with some majestic scenery! Enjoying the Great Outdoors to the Fullest :-)

Top Things to See at Glacier National Park | 10K-mile Road Trip Vlog 47
Here are the top 5 things to do and see in Glacier National Park, Montana, from driving along the Going-to-the-Sun Road to the best hikes and seeing waterfalls and wildlife along the way. See below for more details:
1. Going-to-the-Sun Road
This is a 50-mile road that crosses the park and has epic views almost the entire way. It takes the term scenic highway to a level you never thought possible. Lots of turnoffs along the way to stop for pictures. The road is covered in snow and impassible for most of the year. It is usually only open from late June/early July through mid-October. Check the National Park Service page for exact open and close dates:
Even if you don't have time to do any hikes, just driving along this road is worth the trip. We cannot get over how pretty the scenery is.
2. Hike the Highline Trail (at Logan Pass)
The Highline Trail is the most scenic and breathtakingly beautiful trail I've ever been on. The views over the valley below are incredible. The flowers are colorful and gorgeous. And since you start at Logan Pass with an elevation of over 6600 feet, you don't have to do any work to get the amazing views. You may have to get over your fear of heights, but it's totally worth it. DON'T RUN and DON'T WALK BACKWARDS on this trail - two things I did and I can attest that neither one is smart.
3. Hike Hidden Lake (at Logan Pass)
Hidden Lake is a short hike (1.3 miles) from the visitor center at Logan Pass. It's completely exposed to the sun the entire time. It's always busy. Always. You will see mountain goats on this trail. They're everywhere.
4. Sun Point at Saint Mary Lake
About 15 minutes past Logan Pass is Sun Point. There's a large parking lot right there so it's only a 0.1 mile hike out to the point and it's so pretty. You can see so many mountains and you have such a great view over the lake in all directions.
5. McDonald Falls and Lake McDonald
On the north side of Lake McDonald, turn on North Lake McDonald Road and drive for about 2 minutes to the small parking area on your right. You'll see a trailhead for McDonald Creek. That will take you to the waterfall. Look for deer along this trail (we saw two). You can follow the trail out to Lake McDonald too.

Backpacking Glacier National Park - North Circle Route. (Part 1) Montana, August 2019
This is the first video of 2 from a 6 Day, 5 Night backpacking trip in Glacier National Park, Montana.
This video would not be possible without the kind help of Nick Furukawa and his wife, who found my SD cards lying on the trail on day 5 of our trip. Without them, this video would not have been possible.
We did what some call the North Circle Route starting on the East side of the park at the Many Glacier area.
We drove north towards Montana on Sunday August 11th, car camping the first night. The next day we drove into the park and starting backpacking at the Iceberg/Ptarmigan Trailhead.
We hiked up to the Ptarmigan Tunnel cutting through the cliff side and then dropping down to Elizabeth Lake for night 1.
Day 2 we hiked from Elizabeth Lake to Glens Lake Head campground for night #2.
Day 3 we left Glens Lake and headed up very steep and beautiful Stoney Indian Pass, and down to Stoney Indian Lake campground for night #3.
Day 4 we descended from Stoney Indian Lake down into the Waterton Valley, then climbing up to Fifty Mountain to camp for night 4.
Day 5 we left Fifty Mountain and heading towards Granite Park campground. I lost my Micro SD cards on the trail at this point, and following the trip I put in a lost and found for the cards, they were luckily found on the trail and mailed back to me! Night 5 at Granite Park Chalet was very rainy.
Day 6 we left Granite Park campground and headed up Swiftcurrent Pass. We then descended back into the Many Glacier Valley and back to the car.
This trip was absolutely stunning, and it was a treat to be able to get the pictures and videos, nearly a month after the trip concluded. I had little hope that I would ever get a chance to re live the experience, and now you can as well.
I hope you enjoy this part 1 preview video of our trip to Glacier National Park. Enjoy!
Part 2 coming soon!
