Putin Says Russia is not Isolated: TASS
President Vladimir Putin said Moscow was not and would not be isolated on the international scene and dismissed the risk of catastrophic consequences for the Russian economy of Western sanctions combined with a oil price fall and rouble slide. Putin was quoted as saying the TASS news agency in an interview published on Sunday, We understand the fatality of an 'Iron Curtain' for us. We will not go down this path in any case and no one will build a wall around us. That is impossible!
RUSSIA: CHECHNYA: AUTHORITIES TO USE FORCE TO RESTORE ORDER
Nat/Sot
The Russian foreign minister has warned that Moscow will use whatever means necessary to restore order in Chechnya if peace talks break down.
Russian planes buzzed the Chechen capital and there were sporadic clashes today (Tuesday) as the stalemate between the Russian invasion force and Chechen fighters continues.
But the fighting did not halt a second day of peace talks in North Ossetia between Chechen government officials and Russian delegates.
The Itar-Tass news agency reported that Russian troops plan to seal off Grozny by the end of Tuesday.
Quoting military sources, it said the force would blockade the Chechen capital and disarm unlawful formations.
Moscow says the invasion is aimed at ending armed extremism in the breakaway republic, which declared independence from Russia in 1991.
In a display of strength, Russian jets buzzed Grozny Tuesday morning.
But despite the action, Kremlin officials insist there will be no assault on Grozny.
They also deny reports suggesting Russian planes bombed the city of 400-thousand people on Monday night.
And there were sporadic outbursts of gunfire throughout the day on the outskirts of Grozny.
At one point, Russian jets pounded the Russian Cossack village of Pervomaiskoye, just outside the capital.
Several rockets hit the village - helicopter gunships and at least four warplanes joined in the attack.
As the Russian forces advance, Chechen forces continue preparing for a possible violent confrontation.
They have been joined by numbers of volunteers, armed with assault rifles and rocket- propelled grenades.
Meanwhile, Kremlin officials have issued their first casualty report, saying nine Russian servicemen were killed and 14 wounded since the invasion force was deployed.
Despite the continued fighting, Chechen government officials and Russian delegates have resumed peace talks in Vladikavkaz, capital of the republic of North Ossetia.
The negotiators say both sides want an agreement, but they remain at odds over Russia's demand that Chechen forces put down their weapons.
Russia has offered to help rebuild Chechnya's economy, restore electricity and send food in exchange for an agreement to disarm.
But Chechen officials insist Moscow withdraws its forces first.
Russian Foreign Minister Andrei Kozyrev has already warned that if the talks break down, Moscow will take whatever action in necessary to restore order in the breakaway republic.
And Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin has defended the unpopular decision to send soldiers to Chechnya.
He said Russia's only mistake had been to wait three years before acting against the republic.

Revealed: Russia's Lethal Seventh-Generation Fighter Jets?
Even before its first fifth-generation stealth fighter completes development, Russia has embarked on developing sixth and even seventh-generation follow-ons to the Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA. Indeed, Sukhoi has already presented initial concepts for a new sixth-generation fighter to the Russian government.
They have really come up with the designs for the creation of the sixth-generation fighter,” Russian deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told the Moscow-based TASS News agency on Wednesday. “I’m referring also to new design concepts briefly presented by the Sukhoi design bureau and by the general designer appointed for all aircraft systems and armaments.”
Meanwhile, most of Russia’s aircraft development efforts are focused on testing the PAK-FA fifth-generation fighter. Like the Pentagon, the Russian military plans decades ahead. In many ways, the Russian sixth-generation concept is akin to the U.S. Air Force’s F-X Next Generation Air Dominance effort to replace the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor or the U.S. Navy’s F/A-XX program.
Like the United States, Russia too is exploring concepts like manned-unmanned teaming. “It [the plane] will be modified in both versions,” Col. Gen. Viktor Bondarev, commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces told TASS. However, there are very few additional details available about the new Russian effort.
Moscow has embarked on an ambitious rearmament plan—which includes numerous new developmental efforts. Among those are new tanks, ships, submarines and several new aircraft including a new stealth bomber. However, how the Kremlin expects to pay for those developments is an open question given the state of Russia’s economy and the persistent low price of oil on the global market.
Nonetheless, Russia is not just aiming to develop a follow-on to the PAK-FA, Moscow is looking far beyond the current horizon. “If we stop, we will stop forever,” Bondarev said. “Therefore, the work is going on—on the sixth and perhaps the seventh (generation) fighters.”

Libya's Haftar leaves Moscow without signing ceasefire agreement
Libya's renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar has left Moscow without signing an agreement that would have formalised a tentative ceasefire in the war-wracked country, according to Russia's foreign ministry.
After hours of negotiations brokered by Russia and Turkey, Haftar on Monday evening asked until Tuesday morning to look over the agreement already signed by Fayez al-Sarraj, the head of the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord (GNA).
But Haftar, whose eastern-based forces launched an offensive to seize the GNA's base of Tripoli in April, left Moscow without signing the deal drafted at the indirect talks, Russia's foreign ministry was quoted as saying by TASS news agency on Tuesday.
Libyan sources confirmed Haftar's departure.
