Guys, I absolutely loved visiting Angkor Wat and exploring Ta Prohm Temple. Being in Siem Reap, Cambodia and getting to experience the Tomb Raider temple was so magical. This is one of my last SE Asia vlogs that I still have to release, and then it will be all fresh content of my experience in Santiago, Chile! TA PROHM - THE BEST TEMPLE IN ANGKOR, SIEM REAP CAMBODIA
Ta Prom Temple in the Angkor region of Siem Reap, Cambodia was by far the best temple i visited on my recent trip. I liked it because
Ta Prom was built in the late 12th to early 13th century. After being abandoned for hundreds of years it was decided to restore and re-open Ta Prohm. They agreed to keep it in it's current natural state where it had been overgrown with trees. This makes Ta Prohm the most picturesque of the 3 temples i visited. Angkor Wat is the biggest and most well known of all the temples in Cambodia.
Ta Prohm is also well known as the temple where Angelina Jolie filmed for her movie Tomb Raider in 2001.
Ta Prohm is also ranked very highly on the world scale of most amazing ancient ruins in the world, competing with such specatacular sites as Machu Picchu, in Peru and the Colosseum in Rome, Italy for the number #1 position.

Part II of our Angkor Wat day, so many temples to see and so little time.
The first temple in the video is Bayon, which is at the centre of Angkor Thom. The faces are thought to be either the Buddha, the king who built the temple (Jayavarman VII) or both (as an amalgamation of the two). The second temple is Ta Prohm, also built by Jayavarman VII, this temple remains mostly as it was found with massive trees growing around, in and through much of the temple. #angkorwat #angkorthom #bayon #taprohm #cambodia

Today we got to visit Ta Prohm temple in Seim Reap, Cambodia. What a great temple. One of the coolest parts of the temple was a carving that looked just like a Stegosaurus. Is there a Stegosaurus dinosaur carving at the 800 year old Ta Prohm Temple in Cambodia?

We leave Angkor Wat through the eastern gate and enjoy the water lilies in the surrounding moat. Afterwards we go to the Ta Prohm temple complex. Many visitors regard it as the most beautiful temple. Anyway, it is the most spectacular one. The French discoverers of Angkor had decided to leave one temple in the condition in which it was found. They decided in favor of Ta Prohm.
It is impressive to see, how strangler figs and Tetrameles nudiflora, a deciduous tree with buttress roots, has overgrown the entire buildings and blast the walls.
Collapsed walls and mountains of stones take the visitors back to the past. This creates an adventurous atmosphere, at least, if only few tourists are around.
The monastery and the temple were built in the 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. Expansions were made under King Indravarman II. At that time it was inhabited by 12640 monks.
The temple ruins were the ideal backdrop for the movie Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie as a film heroine Lara Croft. This reinforces the sense of adventure.
India has participated in the restoration of the temple and reconstructed a gallery. The time-consuming process clearly suggests that the struggle against nature cannot be won.
Ta Prohm impressed us so much, that we could hardly separate from the sight of these unusual motifs.
It is not surprising that it is one of the most visited temple complexes in the Angkor region.

Wir verlassen Angkor Wat durch das östliche Tor und erfreuen uns an den Wasserlilien im umgebenden Wassergraben.
Im Anschluss daran besuchen wir den Tempelkomplex Ta Prohm. Er wird von vielen Besuchern als schönster Tempelkomplex betrachtet. Jedenfalls ist er der spektakulärste.
Die französischen Entdecker von Angkor haben beschlossen einen Tempel in dem Zustand zu belassen, wie sie diesen vorgefunden hatten. Sie entschieden sich für Ta Prohm.
Eindrucksvoll ist zu sehen wie Würgefeigen und die Tetrameles nudiflora, ein brettwurzelnbildender Laubbaum, ganze Gebäude überwachsen und Mauern sprengen.
Zusammengefallene Mauern und Berge von Steinen versetzen den Besucher in die Vergangenheit. Hier verbreitet sich Abenteuerstimmung, zumindest wenn nur wenige Touristen unterwegs sind.
Das Kloster und der Tempel wurden im 13. Jahrhundert von König Jayavarman VII. Errichtet. Erweiterungen erfolgten unter König Indravarman II. In jener Zeit bewohnten 12640 Mönche das Kloster.
Die Tempelruinen boten die ideale Kulisse für den Film Tomb Raider, mit Angelina Jolie als Filmheldin Lara Croft. Auch dadurch wird der Hauch des Abenteuers verstärkt.
Indien hat sich an der Restaurierung des Tempels beteiligt und eine Galerie wieder aufgebaut. Der zeitraubende Prozess lässt erahnen, dass der Kampf gegen die Natur nicht zu gewinnen ist.
Auch uns beeindruckt dieser Tempel so sehr, dass wir uns kaum vom Anblick dieser ungewöhnlichen Motive trennen können.
Es ist nicht verwunderlich, dass er einer der am meisten besuchten Tempel in der Angkor-Region ist.

We are now visiting Ta Prohm, which is a Buddhist temple where the jungle just dominates the architecture. Here the buildings are wrapped in trees and some of the entrances are blocked.
Indiana Jones would feel right at home here at this temple. In fact, it was used for the set of Tomb Raider staring Angelina Joli.
It is decaying and it is crumbling but it is a great place to explore.
This is an example of nature taking over the temple. Here you have this massive tree that is just straddling the wall really.

Some parts of the temple have been completely destroyed over the centuries, which actually creates quite a fascinating atmosphere.
I first visited Ta Prohm back in 2008 and 'wow' was it an entirely different experience. There was hardly anyone. I was able to walk around without encountering mass crowds. It is completely different this time and instead of sort of lamenting about it and just getting really negative about it - what I've actually been doing is just taking a lot of time-lapse shots. I'm using the crowds and the people as sort of a backdrop for filming. That is what I'm going to do throughout this entire time that I'm here exploring the Temples of Angkor.
A much quieter alternative, once you've explored the temple, is to actually just walk around the perimeter. It is quite peaceful here.
In our latest travel video we explore Ta Prohm Temple (Khmer: ប្រាសាទតាព្រហ្ម) - made famous internationally by its appearance in Tomb Raider staring Angelina Jolie - in Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. This temple is well regarded for its losing battle with nature, as trees have literally overtook many of the walls. With more distinct ruins and piles of blocks than other temples it certainly has an eerie aura.
Samuel visited Ta Prohm back in 2008 when hardly any tourists were exploring the area; however, these days are long gone and have since been replaced by package tourist buses and crowds mainly from China and Korea. One can't help but notice the noise pollution levels which really take over and prevent one from having a solitary experience. Although this can be frustrating we personally decided to use the crowds as a backdrop for filming time lapses. Overall, the temple is fascinating and if you can find a way to beat the crowds it's well worth taking an extended period of time to explore.
Ta Prohm (Khmer: ប្រាសាទតាព្រហ្ម) is the modern name of a temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara (in Khmer: រាជវិហារ). Located approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray, it was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors.UNESCO inscribed Ta Prohm on the World Heritage List in 1992. Ta Prohm Angkor Siem Reap
This is 10th Century Ancient Temples of Angkor. This one is the Jungle Temple where over hundreds of years the Trees have taken over and grown through and over the Temples. Utter incredible and ancient.
Side Note Tomb Raider was filmed here.
This was also a stinking hot and muggy day, but the rewards was this. Just mind blowing how nature is reclaiming it environment back with the temples included. There is a lot of work going on here to fix, repair and renovate the best they can from the natural stone from the area.

This ancient temple is eerie, epic and partly engulfed by giant Banyan trees. Much of Lara Croft Tomb Raider was filmed here. Ta Prohm was built by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII in 1186 but it was later abandoned and slowly reclaimed by nature. It's huge, partly ruined and an excellent place to explore.

Siem Reap (Khmer: ក្រុងសៀមរាប) is the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia. It is a popular resort town and a gateway to the Angkor region.
Siem Reap has colonial and Chinese-style architecture in the Old French Quarter, and around the Old Market. In the city, there are museums, traditional Apsara dance performances, a Cambodian cultural village, souvenir and handicraft shops, silk farms, rice-paddies in the countryside, fishing villages and a bird sanctuary near the Tonle Sap Lake, and a vibrant, cosmopolitan drinking and dining scene.
Siem Reap today—being a popular tourist destination—has a large number of hotels, resorts, restaurants and businesses closely related to tourism. This is much owed to its proximity to the Angkor temples, the most popular tourist attraction in Cambodia.
Angkor Wat (Wat temple) is the central feature of the Angkor UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the magnificent remains of the Khmer civilization. Angkor Wat's rising series of five towers culminates in an impressive central tower that symbolizes mythical Mount Meru. Thousands of feet of wall space are covered with intricate carving depicting scenes from Hindu mythology. The most important are the Carved Bas reliefs of the Hindu narratives. They tell a story about gods fighting demons in order to reclaim order which can only be achieved by recovering the elixir of life known as amrita. The gods and demons must work together to release it and then battle to attain it.
Angkor Thom is an inner royal city built by Jayavarman VII, the Empire's famed 'Warrior King', at the end of the 12th century and is renowned for its temples, in particular the Bayon. Other notable sites are Baphuon, Phimeanakas, The Terrace of the Elephants and The Terrace of the Leper King. The city can be accessed through 5 city gates, one on each cardinal point and the Victory Gate on the eastern wall.
A number of significant temples are dotted around Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom within the Angkor Archaeological Park, including Ta Prohm, Preah Khan, Banteay Kdei, Phnom Bakheng, Ta Keo, Ta Som, East Mebon, Pre Rup and Neak Pean. These temples may be visited along the grand circuit or the small circuit routes. Other sites are the Roluos group of temples located to the east of Siem Reap.
