Tannenbaum Classic Cross Country Ski Race - Mammoth Lakes CA December 2011

San Jacinto February 2012 - First snow ski attempt
After a significant snow storm on February 14-17 I decided to try out my skis for the first time this year. The winter was dry. A storm around November 18 was followed by a two month dry spell with minimal precipitation (except for a freak slider that hit Big Bear Lake in mid December). The ranger convinced me that conditions were good with 2 feet of fresh snow on top of 2 feet that were already there. However, the deep snow on the valley floor was not enough to cover bushes on the mountain slopes. Next time in similar conditions I would try going up to the saddle between San Jacinto and Jean Peak because it probably has fewer bushes. I had a total of 200 feet downhill and after hitting a couple rocks in a spot that looked like it was skiable and decided that it was not safe at all. So this video is more of a route guide and conditions report with little to no action.
Vadim made a video on the same hike that demonstrates the power of the bushes.

Cross-Country Skiing Through Snow Flocked Trees in Washoe Meadows State Park
Going out and exploring nature is what I love most about cross-country skiing. These trees were stunning and I managed to make it through them without shaking loose any snow. I took this video on February 22, 2017.
