EN// Visit to Taormina, which is about 45 minutes away from Messina and yes, well worth it.
Small tourist land, with a story to tell. In the main street we find several small houses and churches (and houses that were churches). There is an annual contest of flowered balconies, so some of these are presented all year round. At the beginning and at the end of the main street we find the arc-shaped doors that border the entrance of the city, Porta Catania and Porta Messina.
Visit also the Greek Theater, with a fabulous view to the beach, the city of Taormina and Mount Etna.

ITALY VLOG |WEEKEND IN TAORMINA SICILY | WHAT TO DO/WHERE TO EAT | MISS GUNNER
Hey my lovelies! Today I am sharing with you my Taormina, Sicily travel vlog with you. Here are my top tips of what to do and eat while you are in Taormina. I’ll show you where to find best cannoli and pasta and gelato! All listed below:
Full blog here
Explore Taormina old town: I would recommend to go early if you would like to get photos, nobody starts waking up before about 7:45am. If you want to even beat the delivery men stocking the shops and restaurants, get out there at 7am and you’ll have the whole town to yourself. Then save your social time for the night - I love that so many Italians have their summer holiday here, they all wander around the town with their families late into the evening, the town square will still be packed at midnight.
Eat Cannoli at La Pignolata Guinness Taormina. They’ve been around for 40 years and they know what they’re doing! Opens from 16:00-24:00. One cannolo cost 2 Euros. They will make this fresh right in front of you. I made the mistake of buying a premade one at one of the tourist traps and had to throw it out because it was so disappointing. So don’t make that mistake!
Eat at Ostera de Rita: We just stumbled across this restaurant by accident. There’s usually a queue but it’s worth the wait. They serve the best seafood pasta here! They will give you a complimentary bruschetta so you don’t have to order one. Save yourself for other amazing dishes. Staff are nice, they will warn you against over ordering.
Visit Isola Bella Beach. By far one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily. The water is crystal clear. You can either get the cable car down from Taormina town or walk down the huge set of steps. (Make sure you have good shoes!) It can get quite crowded so if you are not hiring a sun lounge, get down early to claim your spot. Otherwise your hotel should be able to book you a sun lounge at one of the lidos for around 20 euros for the day. We spent a day at Pizzichella beach club. We had Marco looking after us for the day and it was just lovely. The seafood pasta was good.
Go shopping in Corso Umberto. Taormina has so many amazing stores and amazing handmade ceramics. I’m not much of a kitchen person but I had to buy something for my house because it was so cute. Make sure you check out the dress boutiques, I found amazing local pieces that were perfect for late summer nights in the old town.
Cocktails at Daiquiri: This was one of my favourite spots in Taormina to have cocktails. You sit on the cute steps of Taormina and just people watch. It’s situated right in front of a square. Amazing service and best tasting cocktails. The cocktails aren’t cheap, but you get a massive tray of snacks with them.
Visit the Greek Theatre (Teatro Greco) You can check out the site to see what events and shows might be on while you are there. If nothing excites you, just visit during the day - it’s a beautiful place just to wander around. Amazing views looking over Taormina town and the sea.
Watch Italian Opera in Taormina. Ticket is around 20 euros. A fun night out watching classic songs in the middle of Taormina old town. The ticket includes mid-show drinks on their rooftop terrace. I would try to get there early to get a good seat. Also find a seat that’s near an air conditioning!! Otherwise it can get very hot. It’s not really for serious opera buffs, but the performers put their heart into the show and it’s great to support local entertainers.
Visit Parco Duca De Ceasar. A stunning park overlooking the coastline surrounding Taormina.
Stay at Hotel Villa Carlotta. The hotel is situated just outside of the main part of Taormina. Has a pool (a little rare as you get closer to the old town) and the breakfast is amazing. Fantastic and friendly service.

Places to see in ( Taormina - Italy )
Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theater still used today. Near the theater, cliffs drop to the sea forming coves with sandy beaches. A narrow stretch of sand connects to Isola Bella, a tiny island and nature reserve.
Taormina is a small city and comune in the Metropolitan City of Messina on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, midway between Messina and Catania. Taormina has been a tourist destination since the 19th century. Its beaches, the most famous being 'Isola Bella' are accessible via an aerial tramway built in 1992 on the Ionian sea and via highways from Messina in the north and Catania in the south.
Just south of Taormina is the Isola Bella, a nature reserve; and further south, situated beside a bay, is the popular seaside resort of Giardini Naxos. Tours of the Capo Sant' Andrea grottos are also available. The village of Taormina is perched on a cliff overlooking the Ionian sea. Besides the ancient Greek theatre, it has many old churches, lively bars, fine restaurants, and antique shops. Taormina is approximately a forty-five-minute drive away from Europe's largest active volcano, Mount Etna.

Italy vacations: why Taormina is one of the best places to visit in Sicily...
Are you planning your next Sicily holidays and you are wondering where to stay in Sicily and what to in this amazing island?
As a tour planner dedicated to our beloved Sicily we help you experience the island from a different point of view and we recommend you to stay in Taormina, the jewel of Sicily!
Because of the strategic location and the Greek soul, Taormina is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
The town was built on a fertile hill (200 m above a turquoise sea) and overlooks the beautiful bay of Isola Bella with a spectacular view of Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe.
Taormina combines the natural beauty with the artistic and archaeological heritage: in addition to the nice cathedral and the streets of the old town, Taormina is famous for its ancient theater (built by the Greeks around the second century bC), that is the place of important music and theatre shows, especially during the summer.
Taormina was originally the center of Hellenistic culture, it has attracted the attention of many artists and writers in modern times and today is the most fashionable destination in Sicily.
It is possible to combine the guided walking tour of Taormina with the visit of Mt. Etna and a great lunch and wine tasting at a winery on the slopes of the tallest active volcano in Europe.

Taormina, Sicily
Taormina has been one of Sicily's top travel destinations since it became part of the European Grand Tour in the 19th century and Sicily's first resort.
Taormina has remnants of its Greek and Roman habitation, a fine medieval quarter and castle ruins, and modern shops and restaurants. Perched on the side of Monte Tauro, the town offers fantastic views of the coast and Mt. Etna volcano. Below the town are excellent beaches where you can swim in the clear sea water. Although Taormina can be visited all year, spring and fall are the best times

Sicily: Mount Etna, Taormina & Northeastern Sicily with Sarah Murdoch | Rick Steves Travel Talks
In this travel talk, Rick Steves' Europe co-author and tour guide Sarah Murdoch explains how Mount Etna — the still-active volcano simmering in Sicily's northeastern corner — gave rise to the island, and still dominates it today. We'll also drop in on the posh resort of Taormina, Catania — Sicily's gritty second city, with a good WWII museum — and the charming beach town of Cefalù.

Discovering Taormina - Taormina Cult Alfio Bonaccorso - Italian Grand Tour
Starting from the second half of 1800’s, Taormina became the destination chosen by many intellectuals, artists and writers from all over the world, “leafing” through the city and its roads full of history and stories, as if they were books, giving dignity to the role of cultural pole the city covered when it was not difficult to meet people like Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, Greta Garbo or D.H Lawrence, just having a walk in Taormina. Taormina Cult is the first cultural circuit of Taormina, an itinerary of 21 stages, in the sign of great literature, art and cinema, underlining that paradigm of dialogue between arts, promoted by “Taobuk” festival. An itinerary dedicated to famous artist like Oscar Wilde.
Discovering Sicily, Discovering Italy, Discovering Taormina, Italian Grand Tour,Italian Food, Italian Cuisine, Made in Sicily, are realized by Danilo della Mura, produced by Stile Italia Tv and Leisury Tv.
Thanks for the kindly collaboration to Alfio Bonaccorso, Antonella Ferrara, Taormina Cult & Taobuk.
Thanks for the hospitality to Isabella Bambara De Luca, Grand Hotel Villa Diodoro and Hotel San Pietro in Taormina

Places to see in ( Taormina - Italy )
Places to see in ( Taormina - Italy )
Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theater still used today. Near the theater, cliffs drop to the sea forming coves with sandy beaches. A narrow stretch of sand connects to Isola Bella, a tiny island and nature reserve.
Spectacularly perched on the side of a mountain, Taormina is one of Sicily's most popular summer destinations, a chi-chi resort town popular with holidaying high-rollers and those wanting a taste of Sicilian dolce vita. Granted it's unashamedly touristy and expensive, but the town merits a couple of days for its stunning ancient theatre, people watching and breathtaking vistas.
Founded in the 4th century BC, Taormina enjoyed great prosperity under the Greek ruler Gelon II and later under the Romans, but fell into quiet obscurity after being conquered by the Normans in 1087. Its reincarnation as a tourist destination dates to the 18th century, when northern Europeans discovered it on the Grand Tour. Among its fans was DH Lawrence, who lived here between 1920 and 1923.
Taormina gets extremely busy in July and August and virtually shuts down between November and Easter. Ideally, head up in April, May, September or October.
One of Italy's most historic holiday resorts, Taormina is a picturesque small town perched on a slope high above the Ionian Sea on the eastern coast of Sicily. A popular and fashionable destination for well over a century, Taormina's hotels and restaurants are very experienced at welcoming foreign tourists. Many of these are fairly expensive, including some fabulous luxury options. However, visitors don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy the town's principal attractions - the views, the scenery, the atmosphere.
Close to the site of one of the earliest colonies founded by the Ancient Greeks in Sicily, Taormina became a thriving Greek and then Roman town. The size and elegance of the town cathedral and many of its buildings are evidence of Taormina's moderate prosperity over the centuries. By the end of the 19th century this picturesque and ancient town was already on the tourist trail, with famous visitors including Oscar Wilde, Richard Wagner and Tsar Nicholas II. Over the last decades travellers have come for the views, the ancient ruins, the seaside, the town's film festival, an outdoor theatre season, the fine hotels and more. A classy honeymoon destination or a cheap and cheerful excursion from a cruise ship, Taormina has a lot to offer all kinds of visitor. As a consequence, of course, this small town is sometimes so crowded it can feel like a victim of its own success.
Accommodation is cheaper out of season, and the little town is less packed, too. March, April and May are good months to enjoy sunshine, the flowers and relatively-uncrowded streets and restaurants. Autumn in Sicily can feature heavy rainstorms, but also plenty of sunshine. On the negative side, out of season you may find hotel swimming pools emptied, building works underway around town, and little buzz in the nightlife.
Taormina is the one destination in Sicily, and probably the one Italian destination south of the Amalfi Coast, where tourism is really well-established and dominates the entire character of the town. So for less experienced travellers, non-Europeans, and newcomers to Italy, it is a manageable and reassuring place to stay. English is widely spoken, but the town still values its traditions and you'll enjoy Sicilian food and a fair amount of Italian atmosphere. If you are a seasoned Italy traveller and looking for authentic Sicily, Taormina is still worth visiting, though you'd probably prefer to combine it with other, less-touristy spots.
( Taormina - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Taormina . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Taormina - Italy
