NSSS 2014: Stockholms Akademiska Damkör home note
Every city, every street and every home has a distinct sound. That sound is something that makes it special and personal for us. For the Nordic Student Singers' Summit of 2014 held in Tartu we asked every choir to send us their home note, to share with us the sounds that for them are a big part of their everyday life. We are very happy with the result and are proud to present them on this channel.
Where do we find the people to fill of the jobs?
Where do we find the people to fill of the jobs? It’s a welcome, but daunting challenge that Estonia is meeting head on. It’s had great success inspiring and training a new generation of IT workers, but it still needs thousands more to fill new jobs. Estonia aims to recruit 5,000 new workers every year, but it’s surrounded by countries like Sweden and Finland, with goals of upward of 30,000 new workers in a single year. This projected need preoccupies government officials and people we met on a visit to the Mektory, a four-storey building that hosts a network of test laboratories, workshops, demo studios of companies, and an exhibition and conference hall. The Mektory is a place where science and market demand meet in order to carry out innovative projects. We need to feel the same sense of urgency here as we develop a fast-growing tech sector that will need people to fill the new jobs.

My name is Mercè, and I study a Master in the University of Gothenburg. This video shows a day in my life here.
Alvar Aalto
Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (3 February 1898 – 11 May 1976) was a Finnish architect and designer, as well as a sculptor and painter. His work includes architecture, furniture, textiles and glassware. Aalto's early career runs in parallel with the rapid economic growth and industrialization of Finland during the first half of the twentieth century and many of his clients were industrialists; among these were the Ahlström-Gullichsen family. The span of his career, from the 1920s to the 1970s, is reflected in the styles of his work, ranging from Nordic Classicism of the early work, to a rational International Style Modernism during the 1930s to a more organic modernist style from the 1940s onwards. His furniture designs were considered Scandinavian Modern. What is typical for his entire career, however, is a concern for design as a Gesamtkunstwerk, a total work of art; whereby he – together with his first wife Aino Aalto – would design not just the building, but give special treatments to the interior surfaces and design furniture, lamps, and furnishings and glassware. The Alvar Aalto Museum, designed by Aalto himself, is located in what is regarded as his home city Jyväskylä.

SUMMARY
=======
Uppsala University (Swedish: Uppsala universitet) is a research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is the oldest university in Sweden and all of the Nordic countries still in operation. It ranks among the world's 100 best universities in several high-profile international rankings. The university uses Gratiae veritas naturae as its motto and embraces natural sciences.
The university rose to pronounced significance during the rise of Sweden as a great power at the end of the 16th century and was then given a relative financial stability with the large donation of King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture, identity and for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki.
Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. The university has nine faculties distributed over three disciplinary domains. It has about 44,000 registered students and 2,300 doctoral students. It has a teaching staff of roughly 1,800 (part-time and full-time) out of a total of 6,900 employees. Twenty-eight per cent of the 716 professors at the university are women. Of its turnover of SEK 6.6 billion (approx. USD 775 million) in 2016, 29% was spent on education at Bachelor's and Master's level, while 70% was spent on research and research programs.Architecturally, Uppsala University has traditionally had a strong presence in Fjärdingen, the neighbourhood around the cathedral on the western side of the River Fyris. Despite some more contemporary building developments further away from the centre, Uppsala's historic centre continues to be dominated by the presence of the university.
