The Road to Taumarunui - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – Backpacker Guide New Zealand
Day 36: Today we are road tripping to Taumarunui in the Manawatu-Wanganui region of New Zealand! It’s part of the New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year web series!
Yesterday - Day 35 -
Tomorrow – Day 37 – Check in tomorrow!
About this video:
So today we are leaving Piopio and now delving through a few different districts of New Zealand on this road trip. Unlike our other videos where we are doing 365 Days: 365 Activities, this day brings us nothing but rain but some pretty cool countryside scenery around the Taumarunui area. But don’t worry, we are still doing 365 Days: 365 Activities and we sure as hell will make up for it later! We’ll do a couple of activities in a day if we have to! (Not that we’re complaining). In the meantime, enjoy our nonsense as we travel through the King Country, the Horizons Region and into the Ruapehu district.

Our trip down the Whanganui River over the new year break 2011/2012.
Record rain fall for the time of year made for a great trip. The river was running very fast and the paddle time were about half the normal. A very enjoyable trip. Looking forward to going all the way to the ocean next time. Outfitted by Taumarunui Canoe hire who were excellent to deal with.

Whanganui River Trip - Pipiriki to Matahiwi - Capsized - Lost my iPhone - New Zealand - nzbeeker
Over the years, I have kayaked from Taumarunui to Pipiriki twice. Have kayaked from Matahiwi to Aramoho in Whananui. This time, we are going from Pipiriki to Matahiwi, which completes all of the Whanganui river. This time, we capsize and I loose my leather hat, sunglasses... and my iPhone 10s Max. All home safe and well.
