Flooding
We had a line of storms that ran vertically through our area. We caught every bit of rain. The ground was already fairly wet so during this line of storms the rain had nowhere to go. The flooding was pretty intense all the way from Charlotte all the way up to the mountains and foothills where we are. No lives were lost to my knowledge. This video was taken on Duck Creek Road in Lenoir, NC

Poor People's Project - Coal Ash and Environmental Issues In Walnut Cove NC
Today (Aug 13, 2018) I visited my hometown of Walnut Cove NC to attend the Poor People's Project. Today's speakers were former Vice President of the United States of America, AL Gore and former NAACP NC President Rev. William Barber. Walnut Cove like many poor rural areas across the country is being used as a dumping ground for coal ash. The effects have been detrimental to the the health of the residents. But residents are no longer sitting on the sidelines. Today was a coming together of the community to fight against Duke Energy and demand they clean up the damage they caused. Footage taken at Rising Star Baptist Church prior to attending a news conference at Belews Lake boat ramp.
Flood Warnings Issues for Ilinois
As the mid-Western states grip with a torrent of winter weather, flood warnings have been issued for central and southern Illinois.
Following a Monday storm which dropped 3.5 inches of icy rain, at least 23,000 residents are without power north of the state's capital.
The National Weather Service also issued warnings on Tuesday for areas near Champaign, Charleston, Effingham, Taylorville and Salem.
Major flooding has already been reported along the Kankakee, Illinois, Sangamon and Vermilion rivers.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said several roadways were closed in southern Illinois including Interstate 70.

“Even in the Charlotte area, we’ve had some heavy rain, but it’s not been flooding yet. That could change though with any of these heavy downpours, he said.

US prepares for snow and bitter cold
Up to two inches of snow fell overnight in Indianapolis, causing problems for commuters on Tuesday morning. More snow fell in areas south-east of the Indianapolis metro area.
All lanes of I-65 (northbound and southbound) have been closed between Memphis in southern Indiana and Taylorsville near Columbus due to several crashes.
The US east coast is bracing for the second major winter storm of the year, with up to 12in (30cm) of snow, blowing wind and bitter cold forecast.

US east coast hit with heavy snow and bitter cold.
The US east coast has been hit by the second major winter storm of the year, with up to 12in (30cm) of snow, strong winds and bitter cold forecast.
Even before the first flakes had fallen, US government offices in Washington DC and schools in several states were closed pre-emptively.
As snow fell along major motorways along the US east coast authorities warned of hazardous road conditions.
And more than 3,000 flights have already been cancelled in the US.
Another 800 flights were pre-emptively cancelled for Wednesday and Amtrak began to cut back train services on Tuesday afternoon along its popular north-eastern route.
'Dangerously cold'
The storm comes two weeks after a weather pattern known as the polar vortex brought heavy snow and record low temperatures to the eastern half of the US.
Perilous conditions stretched for 1,000 miles (1,600km) from Kentucky to Massachusetts on Tuesday, slowing traffic and sparking winter storm warnings.
Washington DC is expected to see its heaviest snow fall in three years. The White House cancelled an afternoon press briefing and a meeting of President Barack Obama's commission on electoral administration.
But the US Supreme Court remained open to hear arguments.
Temperatures across the eastern US are expected to be 10 to 25 degrees colder than average on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the US National Weather Service.
Behind the storm there will be very cold temperatures, Chris Vaccaro, a spokesman for the weather service told the BBC, with temperatures around -18C (0F) in some areas.
It will be dangerously cold when you factor in the wind, he added. Wind chills are expected to make it feel as cold as -26C.
Gridlock was reported on New York City highways, with commuters reporting drive times of quadruple their normal duration.
I just want to get to the Bronx, driver Peter Neuwens told the Associated Press news agency. It's a big place. Why can't I get there?
The weather has also affected New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's second inauguration. Organisers have cancelled the party scheduled for Tuesday night on Ellis Island in New York Harbor.
Both chambers of Delaware's General Assembly cancelled sessions on Tuesday as the snowstorm approached and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick postponed his annual State of the State address.
Transportation officials in Pennsylvania reduced speeds on motorways and other major roads. A spokeswoman told the Associated Press news agency the state had already spent more than half of its $189m (£115m) winter weather budget.
The storm has already been blamed for one death on Tuesday after a car in Maryland slid into the path of a lorry. The driver was thrown from the vehicle.

Playground comes to life with help of student letter
The playground at Hiddenite Elementary in North Carolina was built in the 1960’s. “It was old and rusty, and we noticed students were getting hurt on it a lot,” principal Rene Stilwell said.
For the past four years, Hiddenite struggled to generate funds for a new playground. Then, last fall, Lowe’s challenged teachers and students across the United States to write a letter to Lowe’s highlighting critical needs at their school and ideas for how $25,000 could help address those needs. Callie Logan, a fourth-grader at Hiddenite, wrote a letter describing cracked slides and the need for handicap-accessible equipment and benches for students. Of nearly 4,000 responses, her letter helped Hiddenite become one of four schools to earn a $25,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant.
Thanks to the grant and local Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers on hand to help, students at Hiddenite Elementary returned to school this month with a new playground to explore.
