Snowboarding in Death Valley National Park - First Lines on Telescope Peak
A February 2014 snowboarding trip to Death Valley National Park. While known for its blistering heat and expansive desert landscapes, the Panamint Mountain Range receives enough snow every year to snowboard or ski a significant portion of Telescope Peak's descent.
With Mount Whitney immediately to the west of Telescope Peak, and Badwater Basin immediately to the east, the mountain's summit provides a unique view of both the highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States, making for one of the most beautiful backcountry skiing/snowboarding descents one could hope to experience.

Telescope Peak, Death Valley National Park, California
Here's some very heavy breathing as I finish the last few metres to the top of Telescope Peak in Death Valley National Park, California. At 3,367 metres (11,049 feet), Telescope Peak is the highest point in Death Valley. From the top you can see Badwater, at -85 metres (-280 feet) the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere, and Mt. Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States. Starting at the Mahogany Flat campground, there was about 915 metres (3,000 feet) of elevation gain to reach the summit - with a few patches of snow still visible this first week of June.

Hiking Death Valley National Park - Gower Gulch to Golden Canyon Loop
This video describes the Gower Gulch - Golden Canyon loop hike in Death Valley National Park the way it was on 4-9-2018. The 8½ mile hike starts at Zabriskie Point trailhead and follows Gower Gulch down to the valley floor where you take a connector trail over to Golden Canyon trailhead. We followed Golden Canyon up to Red Cathedral and then over to Manly beacon. After Manly Beacon it's back to Zabriskie Point trailhead where we started. The hike has an elevation gain of 1600 feet and took us 4½ hours to complete.

Telescope Peak, Death Valley National Park
Florian on summit of Telescope Peak, 13 Sept 2012, elevation 11048'. I mention Trail Canyon in the video. That is incorrect. The canyon is Starvation Canyon. Trail canyon is farther north and doesn't drain from Telescope Peak.

2012 - Death Valley National Park Hiking Trip, California, USA
In late March of 2012, my friend Tim, Leon and I went back-packing for three nights up Panamint Valley in Death Valley National Park. We visited the old mining town of Panamint City and got to walk in a mine and see all the old equipment that was used back in the day. We hiked approximately 18 miles in total, climbed over 5,600 feet in elevation gain, got to see mules, long horn sheep, awesome views, a fighter jet soar down the valley that we hiked up, and enjoyed three days of solitude away from people and city life. To top it off, the weather was perfect and we had a blast!!!
Badwater Basin, Death Valley National Park
Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park is the lowest point in North America, with an elevation of 282 ft below sea level. Death Valley is famous as the hottest place on earth and driest place in North America. Death Valley's highest peak (Telescope Peak) towers to over 11,000 feet above Badwater Basin. Dante’s View is also visible from this incredible vantage point.

Gower Gulch Loop visits some of the most stunning badlands scenery in Death Valley. Highlights include Red Cathedral, Manly Beacon, Panamint Mountain Range and Death Valley itself. Gower Gulch can be hiked in conjunction with the Golden Canyon to Zabriskie Point Trail which starts near the valley floor.
