Massive Telica volcano ejects plumes of ash, Nicaragua
Dramatic scenes were caught on camera in Nicaragua on Monday (May 11) after visitors to Telica volcano found themselves just metres away from its massive crater as it ejected dark clouds of ash and gas.
Nicaragua's most-active volcano let out a first, loud explosion on Sunday (May 10) night. It has since emitted 50 small gas and ash explosions together and seven microearthquakes.

Crater at Volcan Telica, near Leon, Nicaragua
This is very near to the northern rim of the Telica's crater. Only at night, one could peek into the crater and see the red bright color of the fluid lava at about 100 meters below. The hissing sound is what makes this volcano specially attractive. On this day, the shifting winds kept bringing sulfuric vapors around and it became annoying and sometimes suffocating.

Nicaragua, Telica volcano, J&J on the way
We are in LOVE with Nicaragua. It`s the only country, where you can have a volcano just for yourself, and only for two dollars. Well, we started our day trip in the morning in small village San Jacinto. You can get there from Leon by bus. We paid two dollars each per the national park entrance, and after that, we just walked through the beautiful sceneries of countryside, meeting lots of farmers, cows and horses. And after 11Km, we have reached the monumental Volcano Telica. We were fascinated! It`s a proof of natural strength and beauty.

Telica is an active volcano in Nicaragua. The crater is 700m wide and 120m deep. Once the sun had set, we trekked up to the crater, laid down and stared into the void below which was lit by bubbling, red magma. We could hear the sound of a storm brewing under the surface of the earth, which was the gasses trying to escape.
It was one of the most phenomenal experiences I have ever had. Tierra Tours based in Leon, Nicaragua, can take you up the volcano.

El volcán Telica, al noroeste de la capital Managua y culminando a 1060m, entró en erupción en principio de semana.
Mientras hacía senderismo en la zona, un grupo estuvo sorprendido a unos pocos metros del cráter que explotó y se encontró cara a cara con una enorme columna de humo.
Por suerte, todavía no se deploran ningún herido o daño tras las varias explosiones estos últimos días.

Telica Volcano, Nicaragua - Climb and Camping - Feb 2017
Nicaragua, located in the continent of Central America, is known for its landscape of striking volcanoes. Currently it is reported that there are 19 volcanoes that are active. One of these volcanoes is Telica, which is a conical shaped stratovolcano, near the town of Leon.
You can do a day trek to the top of the volcano, and then spend the night camping at the top.
We booked our trip with Sonati Hostel in Leon
They provide all camping gear and the food for the trip, which you will need to help carry.
The trip departs from the hostel in Leon and starts at a small village called San Jacinto, which is at the base of the volcano. San Jacinto is known for its boiling volcanic mud pits.
Passing through fields with picturesque views all around, the trek ends at the top where you will camp for the night.
There is a bat cave on the volcano which we climbed into, but be warned it’s known to be full of boa constrictor snakes.
Camping next to an active smoking volcano really is a great experience.
