Located in Athens Texas is the Freshwater Fisheries Center, lots of fun for the whole Family, from feeding fish to catch and release no Fishing license required. All supplies are provided. $5,50 for Adults. 4 and under are free and 5 and up children are $3,50. Bring your own food.

Anglers from novice to expert gathered Saturday March 10, 2012 at Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center near Athens, Texas to celebrate and learn about fly-fishing attending seminars and demonstrations led by fly-fishing professionals throughout the day.. Those new to the sport learned the basics of fly-tying and casting, then fished for rainbow trout in the on-site ponds and streams. I went to help out with beginning fly tying but got called away early.... dang it!

During my road trip vacation to the north part of East Texas, I had the opportunity to visit the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, TX. I highly recommend the center. It is very family orientated and also available for group events. Here you get to see many of the native species of fish that can be caught throughout Texas. So if you are in the area, be sure to visit. I hope you enjoy !!!

Twenty years ago, Texas Parks and Wildlife opened an $18 million dollar facility dedicated to freshwater fishing that didn't cost them a dime. The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, Texas is a world class visitor and education center as well as a fish hatchery producing millions of fish to stock Texas lakes each year. The center was paid for through private funding and corporate sponsors along with federal funding brought together by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.

Trout Fishing at Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center + Walkthrough
Spent a day fishing in Athens, Texas at the state Freshwater Fisheries Center. Lost count of the total number of fish caught!
Also got the chance to record a quick walkthrough on our way out. The video does not show entire center, only the main passageway to the entrance.
State Record Blue CatFish Donated to Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, Texas
Lake and State Record Jr Blue Catfish (pending) caught with Guide Noel Ibarra and his 13 yr old customer Brayden Rogers of Cisco, Texas. This huge catfish was certified at a TPWD Weigh Station at 67lbs. She was donated to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens, Tx

Lonnie Stanley, Fishing Hall of Famer
Lonnie Stanley, owner of Stanley Baits, Inc., started building jigs in 1979 after winning a tournament on Toledo Bend Reservoir with one he'd made. In 1980 he founded Stanley Lures, manufacturing jigs, spinner baits and other products. While continuing to build jigs in his garage in College Station, he won six more tournaments in 1980 and 1981. Stanley also co-hosted ESPN's Sportsman's Challenge television series for 18 years.
Lonnie was inducted into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 2012. Visit the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athen, Texas.

Mark Stevenson: 2015 Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame - Texas Parks and Wildlife [Official]
Lake Fork fishing guide Mark Stevenson is arguably the most famous angler in Texas due to his catch of Ethel, a 17.67-pound largemouth bass that became the new state record and the first entry into the ShareLunker program. Ethel lived out the rest of her life at the flagship Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, Missouri, where she fueled a growing national interest in bass fishing and the conservation of fish through catch-and-release. In addition to guiding paying clients, Mark also donated trips to many worthy causes benefiting youth, veterans and TPWD projects such as construction of the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center. MARCH 2009 - Every year in early March the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens hosts Fly Fish Texas, a free event to promote the sport of fly fishing. Anglers of all ages and skill levels get hand's-on experience in the Center's ponds and streams, along with the chance to interact with fly fishing experts.
