Telling Stories: The Texas Military Forces Museum
“Telling Stories” is an interview with museum director Jeff Hunt about the mission and scope of the Texas Military Forces Museum, as well as highlights of the museum’s collection and the stories they tell — some on a grand and historic scale, some on a very personal one — about the men and women who have served. Documenting the history of Texan forces from the early days of the colony through the present, the Texas Military Forces Museum strives to educate, to preserve, to document, and to inspire.

Dramatic Reenactment of the Battle of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima (19 February – 26 March 1945) was a major battle in which the United States Marine Corps landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) during World War II. The American invasion, designated Operation Detachment, had the goal of capturing the entire island, including the three Japanese-controlled airfields (including the South Field and the Central Field), to provide a staging area for attacks on the Japanese main islands. This five-week battle comprised some of the fiercest and bloodiest fighting of the Pacific War of World War II.
After the heavy losses incurred in the battle, the strategic value of the island became controversial. It was useless to the U.S. Army as a staging base and useless to the U.S. Navy as a fleet base. However, Navy Seabees rebuilt the landing strips, which were used as emergency landing strips for USAAF B-29s.
The IJA positions on the island were heavily fortified, with a dense network of bunkers, hidden artillery positions, and 18 km (11 mi) of underground tunnels.[8][9] The American ground forces were supported by extensive naval artillery, and had complete air supremacy provided by U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aviators throughout the entire battle.
Japanese combat deaths numbered three times the number of American deaths although, uniquely among Pacific War Marine battles, American total casualties (dead and wounded) exceeded those of the Japanese. Of the 21,000 Japanese soldiers on Iwo Jima at the beginning of the battle, only 216 were taken prisoner, some of whom were captured because they had been knocked unconscious or otherwise disabled. The majority of the remainder were killed in action, although it has been estimated that as many as 3,000 continued to resist within the various cave systems for many days afterwards, eventually succumbing to their injuries or surrendering weeks later.
Despite the bloody fighting and severe casualties on both sides, the American victory was assured from the start. Overwhelming American superiority in numbers and arms as well as complete air supremacy—coupled with the impossibility of Japanese retreat or reinforcement, along with sparse food and supplies—permitted no plausible circumstance in which the Americans could have lost the battle.
On February 18, 1945, the 133rd Naval Construction Battalion (NCB) joined the Fifth Marine Amphibious Corps and the Fourth Marine Division for the amphibious assault on Iwo Jima. The entire force landed on Iwo Jima on D-Day with the first assault wave led by the Fourth Marine Division. The 133rd NCHB suffered severe casualties during the fight for Iwo Jima, where it distinguished itself in both front-line combat and construction. The 133rd NCHC had 370 casualties, more than 40 percent of the 875 men that landed, the highest casualties as part of a single battle in Seabee history.
Joe Rosenthal's Associated Press photograph of the raising of the U.S. flag on top of the 169 m (554 ft) Mount Suribachi by six U.S. Marines became an iconic image of the battle and the American war effort in the Pacific.

Arizona and New Mexico
Two bordering states in these United States. Both are in the heart of the American Southwest.
Both are about the same size...New Mexico is just slightly bigger. However, Arizona has more than three times as many people, and it’s growing at a higher rate. In fact, Arizona is one of the fastest growing states in the country, while New Mexico is definitely not.
A big reason why is Phoenix, which is the fifth biggest city in the country. Phoenix attracts all the concerts, all the professional sports teams, all the best comedians, and all the best indie films in theaters that people think they’re cool for seeing.
Arizona also has Tucson, which has a larger metropolitan population than New Mexico’s biggest city, Alburquerque. Still, it has an amazing balloon festival called the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Plus Albuquerque is a way cooler name for a city. I just love saying it.
Both states are known for their deserts, for both are two of the driest states in the country. However, both have these little areas that get higher rainfall due to having a higher elevation.
Due to these elevation differences, both do have some climate variation. I mean, Arizona has the high plateau in the northeast part of the state, the mountainous region that runs from the northwest to southeast, and the low ranges and desert valleys down in the southwestern part. Its biggest desert is the Sonoran. The Chihuahuan Desert is the big one in New Mexico, and it even creeps into Arizona. New Mexico also has the Rocky Mountains in the north, the Great Plains in the east, and basically high plateau throughout the rest of the state. Where the elevation is high, they also tend to get four seasons. Otherwise, folks have been moving to both states for decades due to their mild winters and generally beautiful weather. Or at least snowbirds just head down there for the winter.

7 Giant Human Skeletons Ever Found
It has been reported that the world-renowned and highly trusted Smithsonian Institution was allegedly accused in a lawsuit of covering up the existence of giant humans in our past. Some of their skulls may have had horns, others double rows of teeth! Some supposedly had six fingers and elongated heads and carried giant weapons. According to the report, a ruling by the US Supreme Court is what forced the world’s largest museum to release classified documents from its early 19th century archives, going far in proving the allegations.
The evidence, along with testimony from Smithsonian whistle-blowers, was said to show that thousands of giant skeletons between 183 and 366 centimeters (6–12′) tall were dug up all over the United States—only to be destroyed under direct orders from high up in Smithsonian management. Indeed, a surprising number of reports of giant skeletons do exist in old newspapers. All the same, you might want to take these claims with a bag of salt. Here are 7 Giant Human Skeletons Ever Found.

When Japan Bombed Oregon in WWII
Between November 1944 and April 1945, Japan launched over 9,300 fire balloons. The balloons were released from the Japanese island of Honshu, and one or more eventually found their way to the states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Michigan, and Iowa, as well as British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories in Canada. Some even reached northern Mexico. The fire balloons consisted of a simple hydrogen balloon that carried a variety of incendiary devices or bombs. They were a weapon that could be very cheaply produced in Japan and let loose to be carried by the jet stream over the Pacific Ocean to North America. The fire balloons intended targets were Canada and the United States where the bombs could potentially kill people, destroy buildings, or set fires to cities, forests, or farmland upon their arrival. The fire balloons remain one of the lesser known weapons employed during WWII, responsible for one of the few successful attacks carried out on North American soil during the war. It was also the first intercontinental weapon used in warfare. The six fatalities caused by a fire balloon in Oregon are the only known deaths in the continental United States as a result of an enemy assault during World War II.

US Returns Stolen Archival Material to Russia
(3 Mar 2016) FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: 4026037
The United States on Thursday returned nearly 30 documents from the 18th and 19th centuries to the Russian government.
During a ceremony at the ambassador's residence in Moscow, a branch of the US Homeland Security Department repatriated 28 documents ranging from imperial decrees to architectural drawings that were stolen and recently recovered in the United States.
The materials were stolen from Russian state archives and vary in value.
One recovered document, a decree issued by Russian Emperor Peter the Great, was found in the possession of an individual from Reno, Nevada, and is valued at more than 12 thousand US dollars.
The US has repatriated stolen Russian artifacts in the past as part of ongoing cooperation with Russian law enforcement authorities.

Toby Mathis with Anderson Business Advisors sharing my wisdom on on non-profits. This is a topic that's near and dear to my heart.
I have a personal philosophy that basically states that if you're good at making money, you should be very generous and make sure that you're taking care of those who can't.
I get this from something called The Gospel of Wealth that was written by Andrew Carnegie more than a hundred years ago, Where he basically stated that millionaires were the trustees of the poor.
In other words, not that you just give money away but that you do good works with your money and help those that may be not as fortunate as you or maybe they're not as good at making money as you are.
If you are good at making money, one of the best places to put it, is inside of your own non-profit.
Nonprofit foundations or charitable organizations can also be a great legacy tool to make sure that your kids are taken care of because they always have a place to work.
No better example than Milton Hershey, who in 1905 created the Hershey Trust, which established his charitable intent and manages his various charitable activities.
