Koh Samaesarn is a small island off the coast of Chonburi in Sattahip District. The island stretches to about four kilometres long and a kilometre wide and is under preservation and control by the Royal Thai Navy.
We left Bangkok early in the morning on a weekday and it took us about two and a half hours to reach Thai Island and Sea Natural History Museum where we bought our boat tickets. If you are coming from Pattaya it should take you, more or less, an hour and a half. We took the first boat to Samaesarn Island at 9:00 a.m. and the last boat coming back to the mainland at 4:00 p.m. Boats to the island leave every hour but make sure you get there before 1:00 p.m. as it is the last trip while the last trip coming back to the mainland is at 4:00 p.m. on weekdays and 4:30 p.m. on weekends.
Entry fees are 300THB for Thai adults and 220THB for Thai children. Foreigners coming to the island on their own are NOT allowed to board the boat so make sure you are accompanied by a Thai national. Entry fee for foreigners (adults/children) is 600THB.
There are a number of fun activities you can enjoy on the island like snorkeling, trekking, biking, kayaking, beach volleyball, and of course, swimming. It is also a perfect place for your selfie/IG photo shoot. There are stalls selling food and beverages, however, alcohol is prohibited on the island.

The H.T.M.S. Mae Klong Museum
One of the most auspicious days in the history of the Royal Thai Navy, Jun 24, 1997 records the first day of introduction of a royal ship museum in Thailand. Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, Admiral Wichit Chamnankarn, at the Chullachomklao Fortress, Phra Samut Chedi Sub-district of Samut Prakan Province, officially opened the museum.
The Royal Thai Navy initially planned to display sections of Thai warships, but the new museum, named H.T.M.S Mae Klong Museum, is the first in Thailand to place on display a complete warship. Also featured is an exhibition of the history of the “Mae Klong” warship and activities carried out by the Navy on different occasions.
The museum was one of the projects conducted by the Royal Thai Navy to commemorate the 50th anniversary of His Majesty the King's Accession to the Throne, celebrated on June 9, 1996. Declared by the Ministry of Defense to be in a state of disrepair, H.T.M.S Mae Klong decommissioned on July 25, 1996 and went on display to the public at the new museum.
Both H.T.M.S. Mae Klong and H.T.M.S. Tha Chin, regarded by naval officers as sisters ships, were constructed in Japan for the Royal Thai Navy to be used as training vessels, or sloops, along with three small torpedo boats. In times of war, the vessels played a role in marine national defense and as training ships during peacetime for both naval offices and cadets for marine navigation training in foreign ports.
Construction of H.T.M.S. Mae Klong began on July 24, 1936 at a ceremony in Yokosuka City, Japan, presided over by Phra Mitrakamraksa, Thailand's Ambassador to Japan. Eight months later, the outer section of the ship was completed and the vessel was launched at a ceremony on November 2, 1936. Initially the ship was armed with cannons, submachine guns, torpedoes and offshore aircraft.
Following construction, successful offshore technical trials took place on April 20, 1937, at which time the Ministry of Defense dispatched ships' crews to bring back H.T.M.S. Mae Klong, H.T.M.S. Tha Chin and the three torpedo boats to Thailand. Commander Luang Yutthakitphilat (Mee Patthamananwin) commanded H.T,M.S. Mae Klong and H.T.M.S. Tha Chin was under the command of Commander Luang Naopholrak (Chun Suwankhadi).
The flotilla, which left Kobe, Japan on July 16, 1937 for Thailand, encountered a series of severe storms during the two-month voyage, but arrived safely on Thai shores thanks to the crews' abilities to keep all vessels afloat. The ships docked on September 24, 1937 at the Royal Thai Navy base at Satthahip in Chonburi Province. This was the first voyage of H.T.M.S Mae Kong which two days later berthed at Bangkok's Ratchaworadit Pier after steaming up the Chao Phraya River.
Captain Prince Arthithaya Thipabha, Regent of King Ananda Mahidol, presided over a grand welcoming ceremony for the ship and its crew.
Since H.T.M.S. Mae Klong was named after the Mae Klong River, the main waterway for Samut Songkhram Province, the Navy dispatched the royal ship to the province to allow residents to enjoy their own proud moments with the vessel over three days from February 3 to 6, 1938. Here, the Mae Klong residents presented a Buddha image and plaque as a magic charm to protect serving officers and crew from all worldly dangers.
H.T.M.S. Mae Klng entered active service for the first on May 15, 1938, training navy cadets on a voyage that called at Saigon, Manila and Kuching. The ship later headed for southern Thailand ports of Tak Bai, Pattani, Songkhla, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Prachuab Khiri Khan, eventually arriving in Bangkok on July 4, 1938.
During it's entire period of active service, H.T.M.S. Mae Klong performed admirably both in times of war and peace. The warship saw active service patrolling territorial waters in the Gulf of Thailand during conflict with France at the time of World War II warfare in Indochina.
Also used as a royal barge for Their Majesties the King and Queen and members of the Royal Family, the ship served to transport King Ananda Mahidol, and the present Monarch from Ratchaworadit Pier to the vessel Sealandia achored of Si Chang island Chon Buri Province. Their Majesties were returning to Lausanne, Switzerland, to continue their studies. The warship was also used to transport the royal relics of King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) from the mouth of the Chao Phraya River to Ratchaworadit Pier.
H.T.M.S. Mae Klong journeyed further than any of the ships in service with the Royal Thai Navy, serving Thailand for sixty years before being honored as “teaching ship.” The H.T.M.S. Mae Klong Museum serves as a link between the past and the present time enabling future generations to study the ship and the activities of the Royal Thai Navy. The museum is open every weekday between 8:30 and 16:30 and admission is free.

Diving in Samaesan Island, Thailand
Samae-San Island, or Koh Samaesan, is a small island in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province of Thailand. It's home to one of Thailand's best-known wrecks, the Hardeep Wreck (Suthathip, or S.S. Suddhadib). Many certified divers in Thailand learn their deep diving beyond an open water level at this wreck.
This WWII Steamship wreck sunk on June, 1, 1945 after being attacked by a squadron of B24 liberator bombers. It lies at 28 metres depth with an overall length 68.11 metres. The wreck can be penetrated from bow to stern. Nudibranchs are usually encountered at the wreck and other sites in the area. The adorable Shaun the sheep, Costasiella kuroshimae, can be found at some sites.

Thai Navy shows off new monitoring technology
(9 Dec 2016) The Thai navy demonstrated new technology for monitoring fishing boats on Friday as part of a wider roll-out of an inspection system upgrade due to be in place by next April.
The new system called Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Centre's Database, Inspection, Law Enforcement and Proceeding System (DILEP) features a handheld scanner that can scan fingerprints, read crew identification cards and other documents to make sure workers are documented and proper fishing gear is being used.
Officers also demonstrated how inspections of fishing boats at sea will take place, with soldiers boarding the craft, conducting visual checks of equipment and scanning documentation.
The scanners will be integrated into a Vessel Monitoring System, which keeps track of all fishing vessels via GPS.
Jason Judd, a senior programme officer at International Labour Organization (ILO), said the improvement on the technology is welcomed but the government mustn't forget the importance of collecting information from workers on board the fishing boats.
Thailand's effort to combat illegal fishing and slavery came after pressure from the European Union which gave Thailand a yellow card on its fishing exports, warning the country that it could face a total ban if it didn't clean up its act soon.
EU officials will visit Thailand early next year to see what progress the government has made - following up on a visit in January this year, according to Royal Thai Navy officers.

Sunken WW2 Battleship Exploring - Day 11 - Life in Thailand
For one of our dives today we explored a sunken WW2 ship. This ship was owned by USA but was donated to the Thai government after the war. The Thai government decided to sink into to create a dive site as well as an artificial reef. The ship was located at around 20-30m deep.
The visibility was fairly poor. However we are planning on coming back to this ship and entering inside of it so stay tuned for that video
Bang saray Beach Thailand
Bang Saray Beach is among the most pleasant stretches of sand in the Pattaya area, as well as being a very small, quaint town with a very local atmosphere. It is only just being discovered as a low-key alternative to Pattaya’s hectic hedonism, giving you the chance to enjoy calm days where you have the beach almost to yourself as well as peaceful nights undisturbed by loud music and bright lights. The sand of Bang Saray Beach is some of the finest you will find on Thailand’s eastern seaboard, although you won’t see much of it during high tide as the water comes in right to the promenade. Even in the middle of the high season, you will find more local families and fishermen there than tourists, not least because there are so few hotels in the area. You will see a few new ones under construction, though, along with some condo developments, so be sure to visit soon to enjoy this peaceful destination. Museum VIP Fast-Track Service: Pattaya U-Tapao Airport (UTP) 2-Day Bangkok to Pattaya Cycling Adventure Bang Saray Beach Facilities Approximately one third of Bang Saray Beach is lost to the local fishing piers. Fortunately, there is still plenty of sand to be found and the presence of a large fishing community means that there is a wealth of first-rate local seafood restaurants. The piers themselves are worth taking a look at for the scenes of everyday local life, as is the impressive Wat Bang Saray nearby. Further along the coast, heading north, you will find Bang Saray Public Park which is a very cool and pleasant place with toilets and outdoor gym equipment. On the beach side, in this area, you will find a large sculpture of a whale shark as well as one of a mermaid holding a ‘merchild’. Although quite rare, whale sharks have been spotted by scuba divers in the area and the wreck of the so-called “Hardeep” (a cargo ship sunk by aerial bombing during World War II) is found nearby and is a popular dive site. This road running through the park – as marked by impressive arches - is the site of the Bang Saray Walking Street market on the second Sunday of every month. It hosts an impressive selection of stalls, mostly selling snacks, street food and clothing. The market is much more geared towards locals than it is tourists, so you won’t find so many of the typical Thai market souvenirs like Singha singlets and elephant statues. Prices are also generally much lower. In the area around Bang Saray Beach, you will find the Sattahip Naval Base and the Navy’s golf course. .........

BRP Ramon Alcaraz deployed for US Asean naval drills
The Philippine Navy (PN) on Thursday deployed the BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS-16) for the first Asean-United States Maritime Exercise (AUMX), which will be held at Sattahip, Thailand from September 2 to 6.
The send-off ceremonies for the ship and the 200-man contingent took place at Pier 13, Manila South Harbor.
Representing the PN flag-officer-in command Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad in the event was the chief-of-naval staff, Rear Admiral Loumer Bernabe.
“As this demonstrates our capability as well as our commitment to make Southeast Asia secured and progressive and an opportunity to strengthen close ties with counterparts in our shared efforts to maintain peace and security in the Asean region, Bernabe said in a statement.
He also urged all members of Naval Task Group 80.5 to be models of excellence and high standard of professionalism at all times and enjoined them “to be at your best while on your mission and take this opportunity as well to learn as much as you can”.
AUMX 2019, the first-ever maritime drill between the navies of the Asean member states and the United States, is co-hosted by the Royal Thai Navy and the US Navy.
Operating under the theme “Enhancing Shared Awareness and Interoperability in the Maritime Domain”, this maritime exercise aims to promote maritime security and safety, freedom of navigation and overflight, and unimpeded commerce in accordance with universally recognized principles of international law.
The exercise proper will be executed off the eastern waters of Thailand, where sea and air assets, and special operations teams of participating navies will conduct combined maneuvers to address various contingencies at sea.
This naval exercise is a platform on how the PN and other navies in the region can cooperate and work altogether to address shared maritime security priorities through the development of combined operational doctrines, practices and naval tactics.
The PN’s participation in this undertaking is expected to advance its maritime operational capability to multilateral level thereby increasing readiness and interoperability and enabling the nation’s premiere maritime force to assert more efficiency in the conduct of its mandated task.
