Dream of Italy Season 1: Full Rome Episode
In the second episode of season 1 of Dream of Italy (PBS travel series), we go behind the scenes of the Eternal City. Romans have been making mosaics for thousands of years and artisan Nadia Ridolfini teaches host Kathy McCabe the ancient craft. Food markets like the Campo dei Fiori are a vital part of daily life. Alessandro Volpetti takes Kathy on a tour of the new Testaccio market as well as his family deli, Volpetti. Then the Di Felice brothers, owners of Da Enzo, teach Kathy to make Rome’s famous dish Cacio e Pepe. Next we get “the scoop” on gelato making at Gelateria del Teatro ai Coronari. Noted street artist Alice Pasquini shows us her work, a modern contrast to ancient frescoes. The episode ends at Palazzo Brancaccio with an historic ball performed by Campagna Nazionale di Danza Storica. Special thanks to our underwriters: Viator, Ama Waterways and Perillo Tours.

Villa Aurelia Wedding in Rome. Full Film
The beauty of the Eternal City, the chaos combined with elegance, the visible history with the great monuments, the smell of fresh coffee around every corner, are some of the reasons to fall for Rome. After the wedding of Gintare & Sam we added a few more... Loved every bit of our journey in Rome, filming their love and celebrations for their wedding that gathered in Rome, friends and family from all over the world.
The day started with Sam getting ready with his sons at the contemporary Fendi Suites, while right across the street, Gintare was getting ready at the classical and romantic Residenza Napoleone. The ceremony took place in Basilica di Santa Sabina, which is the oldest Roman basilica which preserves its original architectural style.
There with the voice of Rebecca Ferguson, they exchanged vows and rings in front of their loved family and friends.
After the ceremony, Gintare & Sam had a ride through Rome in a classic Porsche, while their guests headed to Villa Aurelio to enjoy a drink. The Villa is a stunning structure of the 17th century, with majestic gardens and a breathtaking view of Rome, that was superbly decorated by Vincenzo Dascanio.
Working again with the super-talented photographer Jules Bower, we had a beautiful creative day full of emotions and precious moments. Later at the party we had the pleasure hearing Rebecca Ferguson singing some of her hits and the highly energetic duo of DJ Giannis Sartzetakis and saxophonist Antony Lazos, that kept everyone dancing until late at night.
We feel so honored we shared these moments with you and we wish to you, Gintare & Sam and your lovely new family, a life full of adventures, love and big smiles!
Enjoy!

The zodiac and Alice in Wonderland provide inspiration at the Nailympics
LEADIN
As athletes battle it out in Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics, wannabe Olympians in Rome have been filing their nails in a bid to win gold.
Exotic flora and fauna designs have vied with elaborate zodiac themes for first prize.
STORYLINE:
The claws are out at Rome's Exhibition Centre as nail artists battle it out in the fantasy nail category of the 2014 Nailympics.
Monumental nails, at times a foot long; this is the haute couture of manicure - allowing artists to let their imaginations run wild.
Anything goes here - from signs of the Zodiac to Alice in Wonderland.
The creator of these wine harvest themed nails is contestant Lorena Amici from Rome, Italy. She says each nail is hand crafted individually and each one is a labour of love:
It's all made with acrylics, only the fountain is made with gel. Each piece is months of work.
Christmas has come early for this model who is showing the 2014 entry from last year's fantasy winner, Cristina Bea. The nail artist from Spoleto, Italy has included LED lights and music in her latest entry.
She says: I tried the Nailympics last year and I won them. This year I'm trying to make it to the podium again, but it will be hard, because I've seen beautiful work, but...
The competition is nail bitingly tough. There's an entry depicting a whole restaurant scene, and even the trees get a manicure here.
But Christmas has won the day and Bea takes gold for the second year running.
She says: Two years in a row! I'm the only Olympic champion who has done that!
There are 235 entrants - all sponsored by nail beauty manufacturers - battling it out in six different categories and all hoping to catch the eye of sponsors scouting for new talent.
In the student division nails are on a smaller scale, but are no less intricately made.
Here the French polish - ever a manicure classic - is being given a new twist.
And why not have stilettos on your fingers as well as your feet?
There are spring themed stilettos or just plain two-tone. Making a call might be a bit of a challenge, but practice makes perfect.
The first Nailympics was in 2001 in Las Vegas. Since then it's been hosted by Spain, Korea, Ukraine and for the second year in a row, Italy.
Founder, Lysa Comfort says as well as being a trend setter, Nailympics is reflecting a fast expanding market:
Just in the US alone, we had a thirty-two percent growth in sales of nail polish. This means that the consumer is now starting to really take nails into consideration, for their fashion accessory.
Classic gels are still in the majority here. In the gel sculpting division, shaping and buffing is reaching fever pitch as the nail artists work against the clock.
In the tense atmosphere, hundreds of perfectly square-tipped fingernails slip away from of the hands of artists and under a black curtain. On the other side, a high-level jury examines each nail for length, line and dcor.
And despite the outlandish creativity in the fantasy division, when it comes to the real world, the same good, old fashioned rules apply.
One of this year's gel sculpting judges is Yumi Nagashima from Japan. She says: I like the nails to be very clean and beautiful, I check for detail. My job is to give them points, one to ten, based on how well they follow the rules.
This year's Nailympics ran from 9-10 February 2014.

Italy: Animals beat heat with icicles to chill in the zoo
Subscribe to our channel! rupt.ly/subscribe
Inhabitants of Italy’s Bioparco Zoo got a little help with the hot days by being treated with icicles and frozen fruits, as the footage filmed in Rome on Thursday shows.
Animals from lemurs to tigers got the refreshing treats, with some even fighting for an extra bite.
Alice, a worker at Bioparco said: We always try to give fruits and seasonal products, to ensure they get the nutrients. We chose the coolest way possible. In this case we gave frozen fruit.
The recent summer, according to reports, might be the hottest ever on the continent with reports saying Europe might beat its 48°C temperature record this week.
