Amazing Indoor-Outdoor Architecture Near Venice Beach
In designing a home for one of Venice’s typically long and narrow lots, Ehrlich recalled lessons he’d learned from the local architecture of Nigeria and the courtyard layout of houses in the medinas in Morocco. He calls his approach “multicultural modernism.” The result is a house that takes advantage of the climate and that uses natural systems and technology to boost the home’s efficiency.

New York Artist Apryl Miller lives in her Art
Have you ever thought about what would it feel like to live in your own art? Well, for years Apryl Miller has been working on a masterpiece: her home on the Upper East Side, New York. I was extremely excited and grateful she let me in to interview her for one of my book projects.
AM: The process of creating my home is what brought me to myself as an artist. I really wasn't an artist until this house. It just came out like a magician with a silk scarf, and it was endless. The house was the full-blown expression of what was there but the real reason that happened was that I became a mom. Like a folk artist, I’ve made these things in an organic way because I needed them. When I was a kid we always made Christmas cards and ornaments, so when I had my kids and I needed invitations, I started making them. I started doing my collage work really with my kids. It came to the point where I had to make a nest for my children.
What I loved the most about Apryl's apartment was the beautiful harmony between vibrant colours in a variety of asymmetrical arrangements and a subtle sadness of teardrops incorporated into her custom made furnishings, carpets and doors reflecting her own personal story. In Apryl’s work, there is an emotional quality that people really pick up on, especially her most recent work where she is making people laugh and making them cry at the same time.

All about the story collectors and heritage art
In this episode, we go into the vault and revisit two of our favorite stories from the series. First, we get to know the 1947 Archive, a fantastic organization dedicated to preserving first-person stories from India's Partition. What's surprising is how their history project attracts such a large number of young men and women. Then, we see how classical and contemporary art converge is in Madhubani and Gond art - two heritage art forms that endure today. We meet the artists behind these centuries-old styles, and learn about how they're reimagining their work for a 21st century audience. Also on the show, a word from Mojarto on artist Priyendra Shukla, and The Loft gallery in Mumbai.

Architect’s Micro Studio Apartment
In this video, we tour the incredible 28sqm (301sqft) apartment of architect Douglas Wan. The Melbourne apartment was originally constructed in the 1950's as housing for nurses. It’s now been completely reimagined for modern times and transformed into a clever small studio.
Become a Living Big Patron and help us to create more videos:
For Douglas, this was an opportunity to develop a small living space that would perfectly fit his needs and lifestyle. Attracted to simple living and a self described monastic lifestyle, he wanted to create a place where he could be a part of the city, yet also retreat from it. He ventured to carry out an architectural experiment and find out what was possible in his own small home.

The result is a micro apartment which is as clever as it is simple. One which utilises the entire space, while remaining open and light. It’s rustic history is celebrated, yet also contrasted with the modern elements. Most importantly, it’s a wonderful home.
