The Boardwalk, Okaloosa Island
Year after year, The Boardwalk has been a popular destination for friends and families alike. Discover beach front shopping, savor various flavors of cuisine, and take in the incredible views of the Emerald Coast.
Al's Beach Club Burger Bar, Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach, Florida
Located in what was formally known as the Swamp Club is Al's Beach Club Burger Bar. The Burger bar offers some of the most fantastic views on Okaloosa Island while maintaining its live music, club-like feel. Come in at lunch for a low key open air dining experience or come in late and experience more of a concert, club style atmosphere, even for the family.
All orders are placed from the bar and the wait time is far better than you would expect. The Burger bar is a perfect compromise for people looking for a vacation style dining experience but not wanting to leave the beach. Located just a few feet from the sand, you can walk right up to the bar, order what you like, eat and get back on the beach in no time.
In addition to the live music, the beach club offers a splash pad and playground for the kids. Beach volleyball is very popular, as well as easy access to several beach stores, other restaurants and the Okaloosa fishing pier. This really is the hub of Okaloosa Island.
One word of caution, this beach bar really is modeled after a club and can get very loud. Especially at night with the live music and rowdy people. We noticed during our experience here that the music was extremely loud and found it hard to talk to each other, but overall a really great experience. If you or someone you're with is sensitive to sound, this is not the place to go!
Here are the scores for the restaurant. We have divided the scoring into 3 categories. Food, Service, and Overall Experience giving the restaurant a possible total of 90 points.

The Gulf, Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach, Florida
Today we finally were able to visit The Gulf restaurant on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach. We have been wanting to visit for a while but just never had the time or wasn't in the area, that changed today!!!
After arriving at the Gulf it is quiet apparent that this is not your typical sea side restaurant. The first thing you notice is most of the building structure is made of shipping containers and old re-purposed building materials. According the the Gulf's website, using recycled building material is their attempt at reducing their carbon footprint and practicing sustainability. I didn't have a special machine that could measure their current carbon footprint that day, but I have to admit, the place is really cool and put together very well.
We thought the food was just OK, however they have a big menu with lots to offer that changes often. One thing we do like is the menu items seem to be all locally sourced products which mean the fish is fresh from the Gulf of Mexico and the fruits and vegetables served are from area farms.
What really sets the Gulf apart from most restaurants is their outdoor setting. In the center you will find a large bar where drinks can be order and taken to one of the may sporadically located couches, hammocks or lounge areas. You will also find ping pong tables and even tiny huts that Coleton referred to as Onion chairs.
If being outside does not suit you, they offer relaxing indoor dining with an awesome refreshing air conditioner that we took advantage of as it was crazy hot and humid when we visited. Word of warning though, get a table quick, the air conditioned space is limited and we watched it fill up extremely fast!
Since the Gulf is situated on the water it offers both an amazing view as well as the unique ability to arrive by boat or jet ski which we will be doing soon and looking really forward to.
Before you leave a visit to the gift shop is a must where you will find many different trinkets as well as tee shirts and souvenirs.
We did not like the fact that water is not offered at the soda fountain. I purchased a drink with the intention of filling it up with water only to find out the only water available are sold in bottle form. I guess this is a money making scheme they can take advantage of on super hot days like this one, and this being a business I have to admit it is a good tactic.
Since this day was so miserably hot and humid on the day we went I feel like it is not fair to rank it at this time as the weather which they have no control of would drastically affect the score. Bottom line however, this is a very unique place which we highly recommend visiting. If we had to do it again, we would do it in the evening as the sun was setting since this is mid July!

Fudpucker's, Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach, Florida
Hope every one had an awesome 2017 July 4th!!!
Today we decided to beat the traffic and head to Fudpucker's on the jet skies! It was awesome, the water was flat and we saw a bunch of dolphins playing along the way!
According to the Fudpucker's website, its not just a restaurant, but an entertainment complex and we have to agree... there is a lot to do here! They offer a bunch and to get a better idea of everything they have we recommend you check out their website linked below as we just hit the highlights. It's is important to note that there are 2 Fudpucker restaurants and on this day we went to the one in Fort Walton Beach on Okaloosa Island located across from the board walk.
Once we arrived at Fudpucker's via the marina, we were happy to see that there was not much of a wait. We were seated immediately in the waterfront dining area. There are two dining areas both sporting bars and nautical decor, one water front and the other I would describe as the inside dining area, although they are both inside. The waterfront dining area offers both inside and outside dining depending on the weather making it feasible to open the large doors.
Once we were seated, we were greeted by a bubbly bartender who would also serve as our waitress. She quickly offered us a free appetizer of crab dip as I assume she knew they were behind and would take a while for our order to arrive. We enjoyed the dip while we waited the almost 26 minutes for our food to arrive.
After eating, we decided to do some exploring. Fudpucker's also houses Fat Daddy's Arcade which is a perfect place for the kiddos to hang out while waiting. HERE'S A TIP!!! Check out the menu for a Fat Daddy's buck which is a coupon for 4 free tokens for game play.
If the arcade is not your thing be sure to swing by and check out the live alligator tank where you can get your picture taken or even hold one.
If being outside is more your thing, you will find an awesome view of the bay in the back of the restaurant and can even swing by and grab a quick snow cone. It's always fun to see whats going on at the marina, and if you're feeling really sporty, you can even rent a pontoon boat, jet skies or paddle boards there.
Depending on what night you decide to go, you might even be able to catch a dinner show, one of the favorites is the magic show. On Thursdays and Fridays they even host a teen night. There is also a Fudpucker's app you can download and get a list of what is scheduled for the week.
We did find the building a little awkward and it appears that there still may be a little construction going on as it seems a bit cluttered outside but food is good and service is great.
Here are the scores for the restaurant. We have divided the scoring into 3 categories. Food, Service, and Overall Experience giving the restaurant a possible total of 90 points.
