Oak Park is an unincorporated community in Ventura County, California, United States. When developed in the Simi Hills in the late 1960s, a single road provided the only access to the community from Agoura Hills, California in neighboring Los Angeles County.
History
Oak Park has had human occupation from about 5500 B.C. to the present day. It lies within a zone including the early Millingstone Horizon and inland Chumash Indians.
Indians camped throughout the area as they collected acorns, yucca, and other food. The sites in the area include major villages, smaller camps and several rock shelters.
The location of Oak Park was originally part of Rancho Simi, a Spanish land concession in Alta California given in 1795 to Francisco Javier Pico, a soldier of the Santa Barbara company, and his two brothers, Patricio Pico and Miguel Pico by the Spanish government.
Lindero Canyon Road follows the western border-line (lindero in Spanish) of the land grant.
Throughout the 20th century, studios used the area to film movies and in particular westerns. Movies filmed locally include The Red Pony and A Walk in the Sun.
Oak Park was formed from ranchland owned by Jim and Marian Jordan, stars of the radio show Fibber McGee and Molly.
The land was purchased by Metropolitan Development Corporation in the 1960s. Homes were developed starting in the late 1960s. Kanan Road (named after a local family) was the only access road to the community, from Agoura Hills, California in neighboring Los Angeles County. As such, the community was served by police and firefighters based in the nearest Ventura County city, Thousand Oaks, 10 miles away, with L.A. County services responding when able.
In 1967 Ventura County officials who were concerned about the isolation of the community proposed a land swap with L.A. County, but they were rebuffed.
The isolation—coupled with the distance to junior and senior high schools—also drove down the property values, and homeowners found it difficult to sell their properties.
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors created a Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) in 1975 to represent the community to County agencies.
The MAC persuaded the Ventura County Board of Supervisors to trim Metropolitan Development Corp.'s initial development plan from a population of 26,000.
Today there are about 15,000 residents. All available land within Oak Park has now been developed, with the remaining vacant land owned by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.
The community was initially served by the Simi Valley Unified School District, with the nearest post-elementary schools being Sinaloa Junior High (about 20 miles (32 km) away) and Royal High (about 22 (35 km) miles away).
Since the Simi Valley Unified School District had no plans to build post-elementary schools in Oak Park, the residents seceded and formed Oak Park Unified School District in June 1977.
Medea Creek Middle School started at the current location of the school district in 1980 using portable classrooms. The campus was affectionately called Bungalow Hill by students. The middle school was grades 6 - 8 with 6th graders spending morning hours at Brookside Elementary and afternoons at the middle school. The following year when Oak Park High School opened for classes, Medea Creek Middle School shared the campus. Oak Park High School's class of 1983 was the first graduating class. They were the maiden class; they were upperclassmen each year 9th through 12th grade.
In 1999 the United States Postal Service assigned Oak Park its own ZIP code, 91377.

Geography
Oak Park is bordered by the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area on the north and east and Rancho Simi Open Space on the south. It sits within valleys in the Simi Hills capped by Simi Peak which borders the community to the north. The elevation in Oak Park varies from 960 to 2,157 feet above sea level.
The CDP has a total area of 5.29 sq mi (13.7 km2). All of the area is land and none of it is covered by water. However, there are many small creeks in the area.
The largest of these creeks are Medea Creek and Lindero Creek, which are tributaries of Malibu Creek, the only waterway that pierces the Santa Monica Mountains.

From WIKI... A woodie is a car body style with rear bodywork constructed of wood framework with infill wood panels. Originally, wood framework augmented the car's structure. Over time manufacturers supplanted wood construction with a variety of materials and methods evoking wood construction — including infill metal panels, metal framework, or simulated wood-grain sheet vinyl (DI-NOC) bordered with three-dimensional, simulated framework. In 2008, wood construction was evoked abstractly on the Ford Flex with a series of side and rear horizontal grooves.
As a variant of body-on-frame construction, the woodie as a utility vehicle or station wagon originated from the early practice of manufacturing the passenger compartment portion of a vehicle in hardwood. Woodies were popular in the United States and were produced as variants of sedans and convertibles as well as station wagons, from basic to luxury. They were typically manufactured as third-party conversions of regular vehicles—some by large, reputable coachbuilding firms and others by local carpenters and craftsmen for individual customers. They could be austere vehicles, with side curtains in lieu of roll-up windows (e.g., the 1932 Ford)[2]—and sold in limited numbers (e.g., Ford sold 1654 woodie wagons).[3] Eventually, bodies constructed entirely in steel supplanted wood construction—for reasons of strength, cost, safety, and durability.

Bio: Making a musical recording or performance is a lot like a play. Learn your instrument parts & then integrate your sounds. These 4-track recording's here, consist mainly of two guitar and vocal. Anyone else can add a bass, keyboard, drum parts, or a proper vocal, as they please! My writing consisting of metered verse, songwriting, & a music library catalog from 1977 until present, currently via moniker, Muted; piano; Keys MusicBMI. Along the musical journey, worked with Berton Averre of The Knack, Billy Steele of Steve Perry, Robert Kuroptuwa of Jan Berry, Walter Egan of Columbia Records & Backstreet/MCA Records fame & featured in the movie, Boogie Nights plus author of rock 'n' roll biography, Top Ten. While working with Walter Egan in the eighties, was fortunate enough to get some enormous tips from the late Randy California of the r'n'r group, Spirit. Many notes shared from Randy to me, such as that Jimi Hendrix used to tune his guitar to the key of, C. Also, that the Spirit sound is mainly achieved by plugging his guitar into a bass amplifier, instead of a guitar amplifier. I was present when Randy California played his Jackson guitar for the lead on a Walter Egan song called, Invisible Man which can be found on Walter Egan's Lost Album for Renaissance Records. Randy California also lent me his advice about preparation for performing by stating all you do is: Turn On for the stage, & then, Turn Off when leaving. Randy also insisted to always warm up before a performance with scales & finger exercises. Photos from that session; including myself; can be found on that compact disc from Walter Egan called The Lost Album, on the Renaissance label. Additionally worked with: Roger It's My Life/Animals Atkins, of Screen Gems/Monkeys fame, Tony Zamora of Tremoloco & Wild Colonials, James Snodgrass of Bangles, Eddie Munoz of The Plimsouls, Stanley T., Jack Sherman of Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Diamond of Berlin, Steve Wagner, Ron Parker of Christians In Art. My professional career could have been deemed as starting in high school serving as a roadie for Robbie Rist doing frequent shows at the world famous Troubador in Hollywood. Robbie Rist opened for Jamie James' Kingbees, & Brian Wild & Livewire/B. Wild very often, and also, in the years of 1979 & 1980 Robbie Krieger of the Doors showed up often to perform guitar with Helena Springs. The Missing Link played and performed with members listed, from 1986 to 1988. The Quest played together from 1988 to 1991. Members of The Quest: Jim Stokes, Lead Guitar; Bob Stokes, Bass Guitar; Thaddeus M. Francis, Lead Vocalist & Guitar; Rick Casono, Drums; Brent Alan Beck, Guitar. 1991 Western Trip
We covered a LOT of ground on this trip, flying to San Diego, then driving to (in rough order) Sedona, AZ, Flagstaff, AZ, Grand Canyon, Page, AZ/Lake Powell, Navaho Nat. Monument, Monument Valley, Moab, UT, Boise, ID, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite Nat. Park, down through California, back to San Diego... couldn't have had more fun. I think we put over 3700 miles on that rental car.
This was one of my first attempts at video editing... pre-digital... with two VCRs... just like yer grandpappy did it! Not that this video is any great work... I just put it up to share with some friends. The soundtrack is Night Meets Light, from the mighty Dixie Dregs 1978 album, What If... one of my favorite pieces of music.
