Victims remember the Clutha bar helicopter crash one year on
A year on from the Clutha bar helicopter crash in Glasgow the friends and families of those who were killed still have no answers.
The helicopter was not carrying a black box: current regulations for flight data and cockpit voice recorders mean that aircraft weighing less than 3,175kg are not required to fit them.
Now in the wake of the Clutha tragedy, lawyers are now challenging this. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) continues to sift through the wreckage and has yet to reveal what went wrong with the helicopter - the same model is currently used by 23 police forces and air ambulances across Britain.
An unrelated fuel gauge issue led to the temporary grounding of the fleet last December shortly after the crash.
Since then the AAIB has published several short interim bulletins but there has been no final report on why the helicopter’s two engines flamed-out when there was still 76kg of fuel remaining.
Nobody is able, nor willing, to say when that will be released.
The police declined to cooperate with this article and dissuaded the Scottish Ambulance Service from doing so, as well.

The Crash That Shook Scotland - 2013 Glasgow Helicopter Crash - BBC Documentary
On Friday 29 November 2013, a police helicopter circling over Glasgow fell out of the sky and onto one of the city's oldest pubs, killing at least nine. As the emergency services continue to recover the dead from the scene and the injured receive hospital care, reporter Samantha Poling tells the story of a tragedy that has both devastated and united a nation. First broadcast on BBC One Scotland at 22:40 on Monday 2 December 2013, this programme includes exclusive interviews with those affected and goes behind the scenes in what was an extraordinary 72 hours in Glasgow.
Glasgow helicopter crash: police raise death toll to nine
Police Scotland's Deputy Chief Constable Rose Fitzpatrick confirms that nine bodies have now been removed from the Clutha bar in Glasgow, where a police helicopter crashed on Friday.
A ninth body has been recovered after a police helicopter crashed into the roof of a busy pub - as the remains of the aircraft were removed from the building.
Three people on board the helicopter died when it landed on the Clutha Vaults in Glasgow as it returned from a police operation on Friday night. Six people inside the pub were killed.
The remains of the three-tonne Eurocopter have been removed in a painstaking operation which allowed emergency services to begin searching the area inside the bar.
Two private ambulances, escorted by Police Scotland outriders, left the scene of the tragedy an hour after the fuselage was winched out of the roof. Firefighters, ambulance staff and police officers formed a guard of honour and saluted as the vehicles passed by.
Pilot David Traill, 51, died, along with police officers Kirsty Nelis, 36, and Tony Collins, 43. Two of the victims who were inside the pub have been named as 48-year-old Gary Arthur from Paisley and Samuel McGhee, 56, from Glasgow.

MAJOR INCIDENT GLASGOW
Police Scotland is appealing for information and witnesses following the major incident at the Clutha Vaults bar on Friday 29 November 2013.
Around 2225 hours on Friday 29th November 2013, the Police Scotland helicopter crashed into the roof of the Clutha Bar, Stockwell Street, Glasgow. Tragically 9 people lost their lives.
An investigation to establish the full circumstances leading up to the crash is underway by Police Scotland Major Investigations Team, West.
From inquiries made and information passed, it is known that the helicopter had travelled to the Gorbals area of Glasgow near to Aitkenhead Road around 2047 hours that night. It then travelled to the east and was around the Dalkeith area around 2120 hours before returning to Glasgow. The route back to Glasgow took it over the Bothwell and Bargeddie. Around 2220hours the helicopter was near to the Shettleston area of Glasgow.
The last series of sightings of the helicopter was in and around the Stockwell Street and King Street areas of Glasgow City Centre shortly before the crash occurred.
Detective Superintendent Robbie Allan, senior investigating officer, spoke down to the press today.

Helicopter removed from Glasgow pub
The wreckage of the police helicopter which crashed into the Clutha Vaults pub in Glasgow is lifted from the devastated building by rescue workers.
Scottish authorities used a crane to remove the wreckage of a police helicopter from the roof of a Glasgow pub on Monday, and raised the death toll from its crash to nine.
The helicopter's crew - two police officers and a civilian pilot - were all killed when it crashed through the roof of The Clutha pub on Friday night, which was packed with patrons taking in a local Ska band's show.
Police said Monday that another body had been found inside the pub, bringing the total of fatalities inside to six. Officials have not ruled out the possibility of finding more bodies once the helicopter is cleared away.

UK: Another body pulled from Glasgow pub's rubble
Police confirmed that another body has been found under the rubble of Glasgow's Clutha pub, Sunday. A police helicopter crashed into the pub on Friday night, killing at least eight people and injuring many others. Rescue workers are continuing their search.
The Deputy Chief of Police Scotland Constable Rose Fitzpatrick said: I can confirm that earlier this morning the body of another person was removed from the incident site and has been taken to the Southern General Hospital where the formal process of identification will continue. Twelve people currently remain in hospitals across the city.
Fitzpatrick also confirmed that the rescue operation will be pain staking: As this operation continues, workers began to remove the helicopter from the site. This is a pain staking process, which we expect to take some time because we need to ensure the safety of the operation of all those members of emergency services and investigators who are working tirelessly at the scene.
Glasgow Cathedral held a special mass on Sunday to mourn the victims. Eight children lit eight candles, one for each victim. One hundred and twenty people are believed to have been in the pub at the time, listening to a live concert. Three of the eight dead were from the helicopter, two police officers and one civilian pilot.

UK: Dozens injured as helicopter crashes through roof of busy pub
Dozens of people have been injured and several are feared dead after a police helicopter crashed through the roof of a busy pub in Glasgow's city centre. The Clutha Vaults, where more than 100 people were enjoying a live music gig, was almost totally destroyed after the aircraft fell through the roof of the building at around 10:30pm.
Local residents and patrons formed a human chain to pull survivors out of the wreckage, according to eyewitness reports. Injured customers were ferried by emergency services to a local hotel for triage, before ambulances took the most seriously injured to the nearby Royal Infirmary hospital. Rescue services have refused to confirm the number of injuries or fatalities suffered.

UK: 8 dead confirmed after helicopter crashed into pub
Eight people have been confirmed dead on Saturday and many other have been injured after a police helicopter crashed into the Clutha pub in Glasgow's city centre on Friday night.
A survivor of the incident explained her experience: Within five seconds the whole place was engulfed in dust, people couldn't breathe, couldn't see, and I pulled the top of my dress mouth and nose, and said to people because they were panicking - I said hold on and follow me out the door. I always carry a torch, I turned my torch on so that people could know how to get the door.
Another survivor, Gary Ceoupe, explained how he got to go out of the pub and assisted others to escape the building, which was collapsing due to the structural damage sustained in the crash: There wasn't any real panic, but people realised they had to get out of the pub. My wife put on her torch, I grabbed onto the guy in front of me and the guy behind me grabbed me and got outside the door. I then noticed there was a lot of devastation on the other door of the pub, and I went over to try and help. We then dragged eight-to-ten people out from under the debris. Most were walking with cuts to the head mainly. One or two were unconscious, we dragged them to the side of the road
Fire fighters are trying to find any remaining people inside the pub. A large crowd of people and the press have gathered to await any information released by the emergency services. 120 people are believed to have been in the pub at the time. Three of the eight dead were from the helicopter, two policemen and one civilian pilot.

UK: Fire crews move into Glasgow helicopter crash site
Fire crews on Saturday moved into the site where a police helicopter crashed into a busy pub in Glasgow's city centre to assess the damage and cover the helicopter with a tarpaulin. As the rescue operation continues 32 people are believed to be injured and six are reported dead. Several people are thought to be trapped inside the building.
This footage shows the scene outside the Clutha Vaults pub, after police established a perimeter around the scene. More than 100 people were enjoying a live music gig when the building was partially destroyed after the Eurocopter EC135 T2 smashed into the roof building at around 10:30 pm local time.
Local residents and patrons formed a human chain to pull survivors out of the wreckage, according to eyewitness reports. Injured customers were ferried by emergency services to a local hotel for triage, before ambulances took the most seriously injured to the nearby Royal Infirmary hospital. Rescue services have not yet confirmed the number of injuries or fatalities suffered.
