Nate Bargatze - Good Problem to Have Tour
January 29 | Tivoli Theatre | Chattanooga, TN
Get Details:
Look who showed up. So happy you made it!
Here’s a little bit about me. I love the Vanderbilt Commodores.
My father is a former clown turned world-class magician, and I have followed his footsteps into the entertainment business.
But listen, I’m not just trying to tell you about my one hour special Full Time Magic or that I have appeared multiple times on Conan and Fallon while being one of the first comedians to perform on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Did I go on Jimmy Fallon’s Clean Cut Comedy Tour?
Yes. But you already knew that!
Who cares that I performed at Bonnaroo, SXSW, Moontower, etc. You did too.
And yes, I was on three WTF podcast episodes, but so was the President of The United States. (he only did one.)
Really loved performing for the troops in Iraq and Kuwait over five times.
I was mentioned in Rolling Stone Magazine by Marc Maron as a “comic who should be big” and in Esquire by Jim Gaffigan as “one of the top up and coming comics.” My first album, Yelled At By A Clown made it to number two on Billboard Top Ten Comedy and my most recent special Full Time Magic made it to number one. What’s that? Yes, I am one of Variety’s ten comics to watch of 2015. But hey, this isn’t all about me. How are you doing?
Dale Jones - 5 min set 2011
Live at The Comedy Catch - Chattanooga,TN
This is a 5 min set I was working on for tv spot in 2011. Hope you like it.
Bio -
Since 1993 Dale Jones has been perfecting his craft and has become one of the funniest and most energetic comics in the country. He has entertained audiences and our troops throughout the United States, Canada and abroad.
His machine gun style of delivery and animated facial expressions combined with quick improvisations and non-stop physical comedy leave the audience wishing they had his energy.
Dale started his career in Nashville, Tennessee. While working (mostly wasting) his days away in a factory, his co-workers dared him to try his hand at his life long dream, making people laugh. He stepped on stage for the first time at a Zanies Comedy Club's open mike night on January 12, 1993 and bombed. Horribly. He only got one laugh that night and in hindsight it may have been someone coughing but that was enough to hook him for life. Two years later, Dale turned a dream into a reality and started doing stand-up full time.
In addition to his training at the world renowned Second City Dale has had numerous television appearances including TBS - The Very Funny Show, NBC - Last Comic Standing Season Six, Fox - 30 seconds to Fame and The Comedy Network in Canada. If you don't blink you might see him in the 2003 MGM movie Out Of Time with Denzel Washington. Dale has also been on the nationally syndicated radio show Bob and Tom, was one of 8 finalists in The Great Canadian Laugh Off and he was invited to perform at the TBS Just For Laughs festival in Chicago,IL.
Since that time Dale has won the following comedy festivals;
Comedy 10K - 2012
Laughlin Laughfest - 2014
San Diego Comedy Fest - 2015
Dale now lives in Redondo Beach, CA and is marred to the hilarious Jodi White
Every week they record a podcast together - Doin It In 15. It's only 15 min long and available on iTunes, Stitcher and at
Two New Entertainment Venues Coming to Chattanoo
Developers say those looking to attend live shows in Chattanooga this summer could soon have more options as two new venues are set to open in July.
Sharon Gilley owns the English Rose Tea Room on Market Street. She says she's seen profits grow exponentially over the last three years as more an more people travel to through Chattanooga's entertainment district.
I think the traffic in this area has boosted our income and a lot of new clients that we are getting just walking and seeing on the street, Gilly said.
Christine Myers says she came to have lunch at the tea room for the first time today after noticing it would be a good place to celebrate her daughter's birthday.
We just love the downtown area. We've just always been drawn to come visit, Myers said.
Myers and her family may have even more reason to come downtown soon, as the two new entertainment venues open on the Chattanooga Choo Choo property.
Developers confirm that the owners of Track 29 will soon also be running a smaller second venue in the same area. Jon Kinsey says the new location will hold around 500 people.
In addition, the Comedy Catch, which is now located on Brainerd Road, will move in right next door.
I love the idea that its grown and there will be people here from other places and its just exciting, Myers said.
But some say more people could create more noise.
Councilman Chris Anderson says the new noise ordinance put in place last year aims to create an environment both entertainers and resdients can enjoy.
What we're striving for is to balance the needs of residents and local business in order to keep downtown a vibrant place, Anderson said.
Livy Hoskins lives just across the street from the entertainment district, but she says the additional noise every now doesn't bother her.
For example, a couple of weeks ago there was a concert and I could hear more people than I usually do, but it wasnt disruptive at all, Hoskins said.
Anderson says he has begun work on a possible city bass level restriction ordinance in case the additional music becomes a disruption.
Both the Comedy Catch and the new music venue are slated to open at the beginning of July.
Chattanooga Update - February 28, 2014
Today marks the end of the two-week period within which Bob Corker promised Volkswagen would announce another line at its Chattanooga plant.
The Senator told the AP that Volkswagen would make an announcement in two weeks if workers here rejected the United Auto Workers.
But so far there's been little sign of any announcement from the automaker.
Corker blames the UAW's appeal for putting a hold on expansion talks at the plant.
The UAW has until March 7th to make its case - for a new election.

We're learning more details about the tragedy in Bledsoe County that killed two young children.
24-year-old Monique Einwechter was leaving her parents' house, driving across a dam just a few feet wider than her SUV, when she steered too close to the edge, and the car fell into a pond.
After slamming her horn, four men ran to the scene, and smashed windows to grab 1-year-old Titus and 2-year-old Jonathan David.
But then - the SUV flipped, the roof at the bottom of the pond, and 35-degree-water pouring in through broken windows.
Monique's husband, Jonathan, swam through the water to find his wife unconscious, and he pulled her to land.
She had been underwater for about 5 minutes.
Other family members jumped in but were unable to find 3-year-old Elise and 6-week-old Enoch.
Both children were pronounced dead as emergency workers tried to fly them to the hospital.
In the days since, Monique has recovered, and she may be released from Memorial Hospital today.
On Saturday, the family will host a memorial for Elise and Enoch in Dayton at the Fort Bluff Youth Camp.
Those in attendance will hear about how Elise was more mature than 3 years old, how she asked adults if she could pray for them, and how she asked others - if they knew Jesus.
____
Cities across Tennessee need to start paying school districts millions of dollars in unpaid mixed drink taxes.
That's according to state attorney general Robert Cooper, who released the opinion this week.
It would mean that Chattanooga officials must pay the $11 million dollars the city owes to Hamilton County Schools, and it can't negotiate a lesser settlement or offer land instead.
The payments have been overlooked for years after widespread confusion over the liquor tax. Aside from Chattanooga, at least 15 other cities owe money, including Knoxville, Cleveland, South Pittsburg, Jasper and Manchester.
Officials from Hamilton County Schools were the ones who discovered the shortfall and asked for the opinion - from the attorney general.
_____
Comedian Tim Wilson has died of a heart attack.
Wilson performed often at the Comedy Catch here in Chattanooga and was also featured on several local and national radio shows.
He was 52-years-old.
_____
Former State Senator Eric Stewart has pleaded guilty to felony theft between 500 and a thousand dollars.
Don and Bonnie Plattenburg, who own a construction company in Estill Springs, sought workman's comp insurance through Stewart's insurance agency, but rather than purchase the policy, he used the money for himself.
The Plattenburgs were later fined for not having the insurance and Stewart paid the fine to keep them from finding out about it.
He was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and 100 hours of community service.
Stewart's also been granted diversion, which will allow him to have the crime dismissed and expunged - from his record.
____
Finally, The Chattanooga Rail Runners will have its first game this weekend.
The Rail Runners are the city's only professional basketball team.
The team was formed by retired Harlem Globetrotter Paul Gaffney in January.
The first game is against Kentucky's Bowling Green Hornets at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Rossville Athletic Center.

Big Change Coming to The Honest Pint
By SEAN PHIPPS
From Our Partners at Nooga.com
When The Honest Pint opened in 2010, owners thought that a smoke-filled atmosphere would fit with the Irish pub theme they were establishing. But times have changed.
Beginning July 1, The Honest Pint will transition to a nonsmoking venue.
Matt Lewis is a local businessman who owns part of The Honest Pint, Mean Mug, The Terminal Brewhouse, Hair of the Dog and Beast Barrel. He said the upcoming change has been years in the making, but the recent success of the Big Chill's transition to a nonsmoking establishment at their new Cherokee Boulevard location helped ease any fears he had.
It's one of those scenarios where you see people, talk to people, see trends and look at how we're going to grow our businessand at some point, the scale tipped toward nonsmoking, Lewis said. Honestly, we talked about it before we opened, but we used Hair of the Dog as a business model.
But unlike Hair of the Dogwhich maintains a large outdoor patioThe Honest Pint is a fully enclosed space.
The location, 35 Patten Parkway, has been a smoking establishment for at least 21 years, including at the previous Parkway Billiards. But a cultural shift downtown, according to Lewis, has suggested the time to make a change is now.
Unfortunately, these decisions are always about 'how do we do this and upset the fewest people?' he said. The biggest thing that I want to get across to people is that we're not changing our identity. In fact, we're making sure to refocus being as true to our Irish pub identity as possible. We're just changing one little detail about what happens when you're here.
Although the news may be troubling for some regulars, the change offers new customersof all agesthe opportunity to enjoy the space. Currently, Tennessee's Non-Smoker Protection Act bans smoking in all restaurants unless a venue restricts access to anyone under the age of 21 at all times. As a nonsmoking venue now, Lewis said families will be able to enjoy The Honest Pint.
It's very encouraging how much positive feedback we get on the food, so we really want to build on that business, he said. I hope someday it'll change, but Chattanooga is not an adult tourism town

Storyline:
For the young, spirited nine-year-old Ociee Nash, nothing could be more exciting than romping through her beloved Mississippi countryside with her brother, Ben, and her faithful four-legged companion, Woofer. But Ociee's idyllic life is thrown into a tailspin when her Papa realizes that since the death of Ociee's mother, and Ociee's run-in with a mysterious Gypsy, the rough and tumble world of their rural farm is not the place for Ociee to be growing up. Reluctantly, Papa decides it is time to send Ociee to Asheville, N.C., where her Aunt Mamie can teach her to become a young lady. With a heavy heart, Ociee boards the train bound for her uncertain new life far from the home she's always known. Once on her way, it's not long before Ociee meets an array of interesting (and renowned) characters including the world's pioneering female investigative journalist Nellie Bly, Orville and Wilbur Wright, and even the President of the United States, William McKinley, for whom Ociee inspires a...
Reviews:
My husband and I took my eight and ten year old daughters to see this film on a recommendation from our neighbors. We loved it! Our girls continue to quote lines from the film especially Hey Mister, Where's your sister? So many times we take our children to movies and struggle to answer question concerning the movies content. With Ociee Nash, we were able to get a bit of a history lesson with characters like President McKinley, the Wright Brothers, and Nellie Bly in the story line. The scenery was a delight: the trains, the countryside, the beautiful turn of the century homes. It's nice to find a movie that can be entertaining while at the same time reminding us that character and bravery are timeless qualities. Written by agf6404 via IMDb.com
The movie is set in 1898 and focuses on a young girl from a Mississippi farm who is sent to Asheville, NC to live with her aunt to learn how to be a proper young lady. The title character lost her mother to the measles. Interstate travel is by passenger train. Local travel is by horseback or horse-drawn wagon or carriage. The opportunities for women in this era are severely limited. Keith Carradine's portrayal of Ociee's father, a widowed farmer who wants the best for his beloved only daughter, resonates with all the appropriate love and simple dignity. Skyler Day is quite perfect as Ociee. Mare Winningham, whose character, Aunt Mamie, would have been a lifeless cliche in the hands of a lesser actor, makes Aunt Mamie a living, breathing, complex and slightly mysterious Southern Lady. All the child actors are completely believable. The scenery in the movie is beautiful. There is no bad language in this film, no violence beyond the level of a typical sibling wrestling match. The film has a quirkiness reminiscent of Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? and Forrest Gump, but it can stand alone on its own merits. It should be irresistible to anyone who has ever wrestled with a sibling, climbed a tree, or been criticized for not being a proper young lady or gentleman. See it with someone you love. Mom Life Threatened For Complaining About Bible Man” In School
An atheist mother in Tennessee says she's been getting threats on social media after her complaint led to the cancellation of school visits by a preacher nicknamed Bible Man.
Horace Turner, aka Bible Man, had been visiting the Coalmont Elementary School in Altamont, Tennessee for years, where he would have baby Jesus displays, sermons proclaiming that 'Jesus died on the cross for our sins,' bible readings, discussions about the meaning of bible stories, and distributions of religious literature, according to a complaint filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
The district has put the Bible Man sessions on hold, with one administrator telling WRCB-TV in Chattanooga that he might come back as part of an after-school club activity rather than a school assembly.

The Tennessee State Trooper tells Patricia to put her hands on the hood of his police cruiser while he frisks her, but Patricia claims the trooper actually groped her. A field sobriety test follows and after 15 minutes, the mother of two is issued a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.
