Gang Bang at The Cultch, Vancouver, BC
Part I - Opened for Art Bergmann, Sept.19, 2014
DVOTE: Lust, Madness, and Mayhem | The Cultch
DVOTE: Lust, Madness, and Mayhem
May 27 -- 31, 2014
Vision Impure (Vancouver) & Nova Dance (Toronto)
Playing at the Historic Theatre
At first glance dance artists Noam Gagnon and Nova Bhattacharya seem to come from completely different worlds, but a closer look reveals their shared passion for mining personal experience to create revealing and transcendent performances. DVOTE is their investigation into the dichotomies that separate devotion and submission, the profound and the profane, and sexuality and spirituality. Intimate, voyeuristic, intense, DVOTE enters a world of heady sensuality where fantasies are explored and dreams realized.

East Van - Driving Around Commerical Drive - East Hastings - Strathcona - Vancouver BC Canada
Hey, there are all these stupid people shooting fireworks and firecrackers in Vancouver today (October 31).
It's a bit tricky to describe where we drive in this video but we start on Victoria drive near that park where older Europeans play some game of sort. We turn left on Venables which has the Cultch theatre (0:41). A right is taken after passing by the Japanese supermarket, Fujiya (2:42). We take a left on East Hastings Street, infamous for people struggling in life (4:28). After that, we drive around Strathcona and end up in Chinatown (11:45). Powell Street used to be where a lot of Japanese hung around (14:05) and there is a Japanese language school on Alexander Street (16:52).

The oral history of the Inuit people is the inspiration for Unikkaaqtuat, a multidisciplinary work that combines the traditional practices of throat-singing, hunting and competitive games with circus arts. The 7 Fingers of Montreal joins forces with Artcirq of Igloolik, and Taqqut Productions of Iqaluit engaging Inuit and non-Inuit musicians and performers in a unique collaborative process.
Featuring illustrations from celebrated artist Germaine Arnaktauyok, Unikkaaqtuat bridges ancient traditions and contemporary forms through sound, image, and story. DanceHouse is extremely proud to partner with The Cultch to co-present this astounding new production fresh from its recent world premiere in late 2019.
“Brilliant, wildly creative...What sets The 7 Fingers apart from other...theatrical circus companies is they do contemporary circus on a human scale.” - Mooney on Theatre

Whose Life is it Anyway? | The Cultch
Whose Life is it Anyway?
March 11 -- 22, 2014
Realwheels Theatre (Vancouver)
Playing at the Historic Theatre
If I can't be a man, I do not wish to be a medical achievement. The producers of Skydive bring you this new production of the Tony award-winning play about a sculptor who, paralyzed from the neck down after a car accident, fights for the right to die. More relevant than ever, this perversely hilarious and powerfully compassionate play raises important issues of medical ethics and human dignity.

The Cultch presents Hero & Heroine / Audible
The Cultch is proud to present two of Vancouver's most innovative dance companies, the response. and The 605 Collective, for a fantastic evening of exciting choreography. Audiences will enjoy a night of both dynamic and intimate performances from these talented young performers.
ABOUT HERO & HEROINE
This personal duet features the unique athletic hybrid movement of Amber Funk Barton with dance partner Josh Martin. Hero & Heroine balances precise physicality with the sensitivity of touch as the performers investigate each other and the space that surrounds them. Hero & Heroine accepts and challenges the emotional and physical dynamics of a relationship between a man and woman, where they begin to discover that their actions have consequences.
the response. is a new Vancouver-based contemporary dance company created by its Artistic Director, Amber Funk Barton. the response. aims to tell stories and to be a reaction to what we see, feel and hear.
ABOUT AUDIBLE
Audible is a collaborative work which tells a story through a variety of rambunctious and playful movements. This performance is an exploration of today's hyper communication and the dislocation from our immediate surroundings. The 605 Collective's integrations of numerous forms of dance is a great investigation of data addiction, life-casting, friending and online voyeurism. The dancers escape the vulnerability of face-to-face interactions but find themselves craving this very basic human need.
Backed by electronic industrial soundscapes and experimental club beats, The 605 Collective has developed their own kinetic language. These Vancouver-based dance artists are committed to the creation and performance of new work inspired by both urban and contemporary dance.
